Bacterial defense mechanisms have evolved to protect bacteria against predation by nematodes, predatory bacteria, or amoebae. We identified novel bacterial alkaloids (pyreudiones A–D) that protect the producer, Pseudomonas fluorescens HKI0770, against amoebal predation. Isolation, structure elucidation, total synthesis, and a proposed biosynthetic pathway for these structures are presented. The generation of P. fluorescens gene‐deletion mutants unable to produce pyreudiones rendered the bacterium edible to a variety of soil‐dwelling amoebae.  相似文献

The amide‐amine, 1,1′‐di(aminoethylaminocarbonylethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DAEPB) ( 1 ), and subsequent Schiff base imine product, 1,1′‐di(salicylaldiminoethylaminocarbonylethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DSEB) ( 2a ), have been synthesized from the ester, 1,1′‐di(ethoxycarbonylethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DEPB). Additionally, 1,1′‐di(salicylaldiminoethylaminocarbonylmethyl)‐2,2′‐biimidazole (DSMB) ( 2b ), was prepared from its corresponding amide‐amine. All compounds were characterized with FTIR, NMR and elemental analyses. The salicylaldimines, compounds ( 2a ) and ( 2b ), exhibit fluorescence at 540 and 520 nm, respectively, over a broad range of excitation wavelengths.  相似文献

Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is presented as a tool for the elemental analysis of glass in forensic applications. Two harmonics of the Nd:YAG laser at 266 nm and 532 nm were used as the irradiation source for the analysis of several glass standards and soda–lime glass samples of interest to forensic scientists. Both lasers were kept at a constant energy of 20 mJ and focused using a 150 mm focal length lens. A series of experiments were also conducted to determine the importance of wavelength on lens-to-sample distance (LTSD) at each wavelength. It was determined that the optimal LTSD was found at ~ 1–2 mm focused into the surface for both wavelengths yet the crater depth resulting from the irradiation at 266 nm was significantly deeper (112 µm) than that from the 532 nm laser (41 µm). In addition, the analytical performance of LIBS on 5 NIST glasses and 6 automobile glasses at both wavelengths is reported. Good correlation for the quantitative analysis results for the trace and minor elements Sr, Ba and Al are reported along with the calibration curves, in most cases R2 > 0.95, using absolute intensities at various emission lines. Although 266 nm resulted in more mass removal, the 532 nm produced greater emission intensities. A slightly higher plasma density was determined for irradiation by 532 nm using the Stark broadening technique in comparison to the 266 nm irradiation.  相似文献

Grandmont [J.M. Grandmont, On endogenous competitive business cycles, Econometrica 53 (1985) 995-1045] found that the parameter space of the most classical dynamic models is stratified into an infinite number of subsets supporting an infinite number of different kinds of dynamics, from monotonic stability at one extreme to chaos at the other extreme, and with many forms of multiperiodic dynamics in between. The econometric implications of Grandmont’s findings are particularly important, if bifurcation boundaries cross the confidence regions surrounding parameter estimates in policy-relevant models. Stratification of a confidence region into bifurcated subsets seriously damages robustness of dynamical inferences.Recently, interest in policy in some circles has moved to New-Keynesian models. As a result, in this paper we explore bifurcation within the class of New-Keynesian models. We develop the econometric theory needed to locate bifurcation boundaries in log-linearized New-Keynesian models with Taylor policy rules or inflation-targeting policy rules. Central results needed in this research are our theorems on the existence and location of Hopf bifurcation boundaries in each of the cases that we consider.  相似文献

We search for pair production of supersymmetric top quarks (t over1), followed by R-parity violating decay t over1-->taub with a branching ratio beta, using 322 pb(-1) of pp over collisions at sqrt s=1.96 TeV collected by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. Two candidate events pass our final selection criteria, consistent with the standard model expectation. We set upper limits on the cross section sigma(t over1t over1) x beta2 as a function of the top-squark mass m(t over1). Assuming beta=1, we set a 95% confidence level limit m(t over1)>153 GeV/c2. The limits are also applicable to the case of a third-generation scalar leptoquark (LQ3) decaying LQ3-->taub.  相似文献

We report on a search for narrow-width particles decaying to a top and antitop quark pair. The data set used in the analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 680 pb(-1) collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab in run II. We present 95% confidence level upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio. Assuming a specific top-color-assisted technicolor production model, the leptophobic Z' with width Gamma(Z')=0.012M(Z'), we exclude the mass range M(Z')<725 GeV/c(2) at the 95% confidence level.  相似文献

We present the first measurement of the production cross section of a W boson with a single charm quark (c) in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, using soft muon tagging of c jets. In a data sample of approximately 1.8 fb(-1), recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we select events with W+1 or 2 jets. We use the charge correlation between the W and the muon from the semileptonic decay of a charm hadron to extract the Wc signal. We measure sigma Wc(PTc >20 GeV/c,|eta c|<1.5) x BR(W-->l nu)=9.8+/-3.2 pb, in agreement with theoretical expectations.  相似文献

We used diffusion tensor imaging to assess diffusion anisotropy in the pyramidal tract in ten young, and ten elderly subjects (five males and five females in each group). The purpose of this study was to define normative values for anisotropy at different anatomic levels of the brainstem as well as to assess differences due to age, gender, and laterality. In all subjects, anisotropy was highest in the cerebral peduncle, lowest in the caudal pons, and intermediate in the medulla. In the pons and medulla the regional variability was high, with significant differences in anisotropy even between contiguous slices. Multifactorial ANOVA (performed using the average value of anisotropy within each region of interest) revealed that elderly subjects had significantly lower values than young subjects in the cerebral peduncle, with no differences in the pons and medulla. No significant differences in anisotropy due to gender and side were found. The differences in anisotropy at different levels of the brainstem reflect differences in the local architecture of white matter fibers. Anisotropy is high in the cerebral peduncle because fibers have a highly ordered arrangement, while in the pons and medulla, anisotropy is lower because the local fiber architecture is less coherent due to the presence of other fibers and nuclei. The biologic meaning of the intergroup differences in anisotropy is discussed in light of the structure and architecture of the tissue under investigation. We also consider potential sources of artifacts, such as noise and motion, partial volume contamination, anatomic mismatching, and the use of inappropriate statistical tests. We conclude that the age-related decrease in anisotropy in the cerebral peduncle is not artifactual but rather reflects subtle structural changes of the aging white matter. Our study however shows that caution must be exercised in interpreting diffusion anisotropy data.  相似文献

One of the fundamental processes in nature, the oxidation of water, is catalyzed by a small CaMn3O4?MnO cluster located in photosystem II (PS II). Now, the first successful preparation of a series of isolated ligand‐free tetrameric CanMn4?nO4+ (n=0–4) cluster ions is reported, which are employed as structural models for the catalytically active site of PS II. Gas‐phase reactivity experiments with D2O and H218O in an ion trap reveal the facile deprotonation of multiple water molecules via hydroxylation of the cluster oxo bridges for all investigated clusters. However, only the mono‐calcium cluster CaMn3O4+ is observed to oxidize water via elimination of hydrogen peroxide. First‐principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations elucidate mechanistic details of the deprotonation and oxidation reactions mediated by CaMn3O4+ as well as the role of calcium.  相似文献
