One step synthesis of indirubins by reductive coupling of isatins with KBH4

One step synthesis of the natural product indirubin by reductive coupling of isatin with KBH₄ is described and a possible mechanism for the reaction is proposed. Eleven indirubin derivatives were obtained easily from the corresponding substituted isatin.     

Synthesis of polysubstituted 5-hydroxyhydantoins via ring-opening of isatins

A simple and efficient tandem reaction approach was developed for the synthesis of 5-hydroxyhydantoins from one-pot reaction of isatins, phthalic anhydride or succinic anhydride, and 1,3-dimethylurea (1,3-diethylurea). The products were gained through the ring-opening of isatins process. The advantages of this report are simple operation, mild reaction conditions, good yields and easily available raw materials. It was very important for us to obtain the intermediate product and that provided a solid basis for the correct interpretation of the reaction mechanism.     

Ultrasensitive amperometric determination of PSA based on a signal amplification strategy using nanoflowers composed of single-strand DNA modified fullerene and Methylene Blue,and an improved surface-initiated enzymatic polymerization

The authors describe a signal amplification strategy for highly sensitive detection of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA). This is accomplished by a combination of two methods, viz. (a) improved surface-initiated enzymatic polymerization (SIEP), and (b) the use of nanoflowers prepared from C₆₀ fullerene and Methylene Blue (C₆₀/MB) modified with a long single-strand DNA. C₆₀/MB acts as a novel electrochemical indicator. The C₆₀/MB nanoflowers improve the load of MB and promote the electron transfer. The integration of the SIEP technique and the C₆₀/MB nanomaterial also results in improved loading of MB on the nucleic acid. Ultimately, dual cascade signal amplification is accomplished. The biosensor was constructed as follows: (a) Gold nanospheres were modified with antibody 2 (Ab₂) and a thiolated oligonucleotide (referred to as S₀). (2) S₀ is then extended by the SIEP reaction. (3) The redox indicator C₆₀/MB is then connected to the extended guanine-rich ssDNA which then yields the amperometric signal. (4) A sandwich immunoassay is performed by capturing the nanoprobe oy type Ab₂-Au-S₀ on the gold electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and protein A. Current is measured by using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The synergic effect of the biofunctional nanomaterial and the signal amplification strategy greatly improves the performance of this immunoassay. Under optimized conditions and at a working voltage of typically ?0.18 V (vs Ag/AgCl), the assay has a linear range that extends from 15 pg·mL^?1 to 8 ng·mL^?1 of PSA. The detection limit is as low as 1.7 pg·mL^?1 (at an S/N ratio of 3). In our perception, this dual amplification scheme has a wide scope in that it may become applicable to numerous other immunoassays.

Two copper(II)-bbtz modified Keggin and β-octamolybdate compounds captured in one-pot under hydrothermal conditions

Under hydrothermal conditions two compounds based on Keggin and β-octamolybdate, respectively, [Cu₂(bbtz)₄(SiMo₁₂O₄₀)] (1) and [Cu₂(bbtz)₄(Mo₈O₂₆)]_1/2·H₂O (2) (bbtz = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene), were synthesized in one-pot and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, and IR spectroscopy. In compound 1, two adjacent wave-like Cu^II-bbtz lines are connected by SiMo₁₂ anions and bbtz to generate a ladder-like chain. Adjacent chains share the same Cu^II ions to build a three-dimensional (3-D) framework. In compound 2, the β-Mo₈ anions link Cu₃(bbtz)₂ subunits alternately to form a one-dimensional (1-D) chain. These chains connect each other through sharing Cu^II ions and a 3-D network is constructed. Moreover, we studied the electrocatalytic and photocatalytic activities of these two compounds. The results indicate that 1 and 2 show good electrocatalytic performance for the reduction of nitrite and bromate; they also exhibit photocatalytic properties for degradation of MB and RhB.

New model and heuristic solution approach for one-dimensional cutting stock problem with usable leftovers

In the one-dimensional cutting stock problem with usable leftovers (1DCSPUL), items of the current order are cut from stock bars to minimize material cost. Here, stock bars include both standard ones bought commercially and old leftovers generated in processing previous orders, and cutting patterns often include new leftovers that are usable in processing subsequent orders. Leftovers of the same length are considered to be of the same type. The number of types of leftovers should be limited to simplify the cutting process and reduce the storage area. This paper presents an integer programming model for the 1DCSPUL with limited leftover types and describes a heuristic algorithm based on a column-generation procedure to solve it. Computational results show that the proposed approach is more effective than several published algorithms in reducing trim loss, especially when the number of types of leftovers is limited.
