Electrooxidation of carbo/thiocarbohydrazide and their hydrazone derivatives at a glassy carbon electrode

Electrochemical oxidation of thio/carbohydrazide and their hydrazone derivatives Benzaldehyde thiocarbohydrazone [BTCH] diacetylene thiocarbohydrazone [DATCH] have been studied in Brit-ton Robinson buffer in aqueous and nonaqueous media at a glassy carbon electrode. The effects of pH, sweep rate, concentration, temperature and surfactants have been studied. The complex bis (carbo/thiocabohydrazide) Zn(II) chloride was also subjected to voltammetric analysis in order to understand the reactivity both in free and metal bound states. The reaction conditions were optimized for the determination of above compounds in micrograms quantities by differential pulse voltammetry, analytical utility of this investigation is also highlighted.     

A Miura of the Painlevé I Equation and Its Discrete Analogs

We present Miura transformations for the continuous and several discrete Painlev\'e I equations. In the case of the continuous P_I, we use the Hamiltonian formulation of the Painlev\'e equations and show that there exists a Miura transformation between P_I and the binomial, second degree, equation of Cosgrove SD_V. In the case of the discrete P_I's we obtain two different kinds of Miuras. One kind relates a d-P_I to some other d-P_I while the other leads to discrete four-point equations which are the discrete analogs of the derivative of Cosgrove's equation SD_V.     

Quenching of fluorescence from Na(32P) and K(42P) atoms following photodissociation of NaCl and KCl at 193 nm

 Quenching of fluorescence from Na(3² P) and K(4² P) atoms by various collision partners was studied at 973 and 1273K. Excited alkali atoms were produced photolytically by excimer laser light at 193nm. For each collision pair, the appropriate relative velocity was computed and used to evaluate the quenching cross-section from the measured rate constants. Cross sections for CO₂, O₂ and N₂ are large (10–60Ų) while for Ar, the values are <1 Ų. The results are compared with those of previous investigations as a function of relative velocity. Finally, implications for combustion diagnostics are briefly discussed. Received: 29 March 1996     

Pseudoparabolic variational inequalities without initial conditions

We consider a pseudoparabolic variational inequality in a cylindrical domain semibounded in a variable t. Under certain conditions imposed on the coefficients of the inequality, we prove theorems on the unique existence of a solution for a class of functions with exponential growth as t → ∞. Towards an universal classification of scale invariant processes

We consider fields which take random values over several decades. Starting from physical examples, we postulate that scale is not an absolute quantity. We then establish the equivalence between two existing approaches based on scale symmetry arguments as general as possible. This yields a classification of log-infinitely divisible laws, possibly universal. The physical significance of the parameters entering in the classification is discussed. Influence of dissipation on one- and two-dimensional quantum tunneling

The influence of low-frequency oscillations of the medium on the particle tunneling probability is investigated in a system with a selected tunneling coordinate, when the two-well tunnel potential takes the form of two parabolas of the same frequency. With parallel or antiparallel tunneling of two interacting particles, taking the interaction with the medium into account has no qualitative effect on the process. Quantitatively, however, the medium always influences the parallel motion of the tunneling particles and does not influence the action along the basic trajectory (R₁=−R₂) with antiparallel motion of the tunneling particles. Study of the phase composition of AgI microcrystals by exciton spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry

Differential absorption spectra of RbAg₄I₅ have been measured in the exciton absorption region of AgI within the temperature range 27–250 °C. In the same temperature range, the temperature behavior of the heat capacity of RbAg₄I₅, Rb₂AgI₃, and KAg₄I₅ have been obtained by differential scanning calorimetry. An analysis of the results suggests that, in AgI microcrystals less than r _cr in size, the upper boundary for stability of the low-temperature β modification is higher by several tens of degrees.
