Rigorous justification of the Friedlander-Keller formulas

In the paper an asymptotic expansion (as , the wave number) is proved for the Green function of the problem of diffraction by a smooth convex body in two cases: when one of the points of the source or observer lies on the boundary while the other is an arbitrary distance from the boundary and also when both points lie off the boundary but not far from it. The problem of radial excitations of light mesons

Strong decays of the ground and radial-excited (L=0) states of light mesons are calculated within a relativistic (Lorentz-contraction-modified) version of the model of spontaneous production of aq \(\bar q\) -pair from vacuum.     

Al2O3-supported Fe?Ni catalysts for CO hydrogenation, I. Catalytic properties

CO conversion to hydrocarbons at various reaction temperatures and atmospheric pressure has been investigated on alumina-supported Fe, Ni and Fe–Ni catalysts. Maxima of activity and selectivity were obtained in hydrocarbon formation as a function of Fe content in the samples, which corresponds to a certain stoichiometry of metallic components.     

Electric and tensoelectric study of radiation defects in GaAs

The electric and tensoelectric properties are studied for GaAs crystals which have been irradiated by electrons (2.3 Mev) at 300°K with integrated fluxes of up to 2·10¹⁵ –1·10¹⁹ cm^–2. On the basis of the electrical neutrality equation, including seven energy levels (E1–E5, H0, H1) of the radiation defects, the specific resistivity and the strain sensitivity coefficient are quantitatively analyzed as a function of exposure. The pressure coefficients for the E1–E5 levels with respect to the _c ⁶ point are determined to be (0, 9.6, 11.0, 11.6, 11.6)·10^–6 eV/bar, respectively, at 300°K.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 10, pp. 81–87, October, 1986.     

Synthesis in the 2-mercaptobenzothiazole series

The reduction of some dihydrothiazolobenzothiazolium salts with sodium borohydride may take place in two directions: with the formation of thiazolidino[2, 3-b]benzathiazolines and with the cleavage of the C-S bond to give N-(-mercaptoethyl)benzothiazolines. The behavior of thiazolidino[2, 3-b]benzothiazoline under the conditions of acid and alkaline hydrolysis has been studied.For communication VI, see [1].     

The significance of Kekulé structures for the stability of aromatic systems—II

Dihydroheptazethrene (V) and 1:14,11:12-dibenzo-5,7-dihydro-pentacene (VI) were synthesized. The former gave heptazethrene (VII) on dehydrogenation, whilst the latter polymerized immediately. This difference is explained by the fact that heptazethrene (VII) can be formulated with a Kekulé structure and the dehydrogenation product of VI cannot. Heptazethrene is a basis hydrocarbon and is closely related to dibenzoheptazethrene (VIII). Heptazethrenequinone (II) is a true quinone giving a blue vat, whilst the isomer (IV) is a diketone and does not give a vat.

Embedded cluster calculation of the Ce3+ impurity in Lu2SiO5 crystals including crystal lattice relaxation and polarization

Results of electronic structure studies of the Ce³⁺ impurity in Lu₂SiO₅ crystals allowing for lattice polarization and relaxation are given. The calculations were performed by the embedded cluster method combining the scattered wave and molecular static methods.
