Photochemical and thermal transformations of azomethine imines

The thermal and photochemical fragmentations of a few bisazoalkenes have been investigated. 2-Phenyl-4,5-disubstituted-1, 2,3-triazoles were obtained both in the thermolysis and photolysis of 1, 2-bisphenylazo-(4, 4′-dichloro) stilbene, 1, 2-bisphenylazo(4, 4′-dimethoxy)stilbene, 1, 2-bisphenylazocyclohexene and o-(phenylazo) phenyldiazocyanide. Both 2, 3-bisphenylazo-2-butene and 1, 2-bisphenylazoethylene failed to undergo either photolysis or thermolysis in the expected manner. However, 2, 3-bisphenylazo-2-butene underwent an acid-catalysed valence isomerisation to anhydro 1-phenylimino-2-phenyl-4, 5-dimethyl-1, 2, 3-trizolium hydroxide, which on photolysis gave 2-phenyl-4, 5-dimethyl-1, 2, 3-triazole. The same iminotriazolium intermediate gave a cycloadduct, 2, 6-diphenyl-3, 3a-dimethyl-4, 5-dicarbomethoxypyrazolino [2.3.c][1.2.3] triazole, on treatment with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate, whereas treatment with carbon disulphide gave 2-phenyl-4, 5-dimethyl-1, 2, 3-triazole. Both photolysis and thermolysis of C-biphenylene-N^α(4-chlorophenyl)-N^β-cyanoazomethine imine gave 9-fluorenone-N- (4-chlorophenyl) anil. Photolysis of 1, 2-bisphenylazoacenaphthylene in methanol gave acenaphthenequinone monophenylhydrazone.     

Simple method for the preparation of 1-oxo-1-chlorophospholenes

Conclusions A new and simple method has been found for the synthesis of 1-oxo-1-chlorophospholenes by the reaction of phosphorus trichloride, a diene, and an oxygen-donor compound, the best of which is acetone.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 8, pp. 1847–1848, August, 1972.     

EPR spectra of halogenonitromethane anion radicals

Reactions of diterpenoids on solid supports II. Behavior of di- and tricyclic diterpenoids on alumina containing oxidants

The behavior of epimanool (1), epimanool oil, larixol (2), cis-abienol (3) and methyl dehydroabietate (4) on alumina impregnated with oxidants (H₂CrO₄ and KMnO₄) has been studied. This has led to the methyl ketone (5) and norambrenolide (8) - precursors of the perfume substances 14,15,17-trinorlabdane-8,13-dione (6), 8-hydroxy-14,15-bisnorlabd-II-en-13-one (7), and methyl 7-oxodehydroabietate (14). -Levantenolide (11) has been synthesized in one stage from cis-abienol (3)for the first time.Novosibirsk Insitute of Organic Chemistry, Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Peptides-XXXXVI: Studies in the synthesis of an analogue of hen egg white lysozyme

The previously synthesised (1–37), (38–75), (76–93), (94–104), (105–117) and (118–129) fragments of the analogue were combined making extensive use of the DCCI/HONSu method. The final coupling involved the (1–75) and (76–129) sub-fragments. Aggregation of the latter fragment caused problems in purification by routine gel filtration methods employing Enzacryl K2 or Sephadex LH60. The fully protected (1–129) product was partially purified by washing, then deprotectcd and purified by gel filtration and ion exchange chromatography. Satisfactory removal of the acetamidomethyl group used for cysteine protection could not be achieved.     

An immobiline DryStrip application method enabling high-capacity two-dimensional gel electrophoresis

In the field of proteomics the need to detect low-abundance cellular components, such as regulatory proteins, is of critical importance. Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE) is one of the most commonly used separation tools for these biological investigations. In this paper we report an alternative micropreparative 2-D PAGE sample application method, called the "paper bridge loading" method. This method makes it possible to apply a larger sample volume to commercially available immobilized pH gradient (IPG) strips. The Vh products required for focusing are only marginally longer than those used in analytical experiments. The method was compared to traditional cup loading and in-gel rehydration. With 18 cm long narrow-range Immobiline DryStrip pH 4.5-5.5, the "paper bridge" method allowed the application of 10 mg human plasma proteins compared to 3 mg with traditional loading methods. The corresponding figures using Escherichia coli sample was found to be 6 mg and less than 2 mg, respectively. The paper bridge method also showed the best results in terms of spot resolution and separation of high molecular weight proteins.
