Structure of lithium (picrate) (2,2′-bipyridyl)

The title compound C₁₆H₁₀N₅O₇Li is triclinic, witha=14.51(1),b=6.90(2),c=9.10(1) Å,=101.5(1),=67.1(2), =105.6°(1),Z=2 and space groupP¯1. Data were measured by photographic methods. The structure was solved by direct methods, and refined by full matrix least-squares. The refinement, based on 1337 reflections, gave the rather highR value of 0.11 because of poor quality data. The complex is dimeric. The coordination around the cation is distorted square-pyramidal. Two coordination sites are occupied by the nitrogen atoms of the bipyridyl ligand, two by the phenolic oxygen and oxygen ofo-nitro group, and the fifth coordination site is occupied by the phenolic oxygen belonging to the symmetry-related molecule (1–x,–y,1–z). Both oxygens act as bridges to form the dimer. The bridging is unsymmetrical, with Li-O (phenolic)=1.84(2) Å and Li¹-O (phenolic)=2.16(2) Å (whereI=1–x,–y, 1–Z).     

Formation of silver nanoparticles in formamide:water mixtures: a radiolytic study

The pulse radiolysis of FA and FA:water solutions was studied in the absence and presence of redox indicator 1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium dichloride (methyl viologen, MV²⁺). The experiments performed in the presence of MV²⁺ have provided strong support to the idea that the first species obtained from the reaction of e_sol⁻ and ^•OH with FA produces radicals that show reactivity towards the MV²⁺. Both the radicals on reaction with MV²⁺ results in the appearance of the well-known intense blue MV^•+ radical absorption signal (λ_max = 395 nm, λ_max = 605 nm). The intermediate radicals formed during radiolysis were used to generate silver nanoparticles.     

Performance improvement on OVSB based WDM RoF-EPON link using SOA with DCF and FBG

Performance of four channel WDM RoF-EPON link based on OVSB transmission using SOA is enhanced by compensating dispersion and FWM with DCF and FBG by 10.95% for equal channel spacing and further improvement has been shown up to 23.61% by using unequal spacing for the same transmission link. The performance enhancement by using DCF and FBG is ascertained by evaluating Q factor and eye opening.     

Separation and gravimetric determination of rare earths with N-m-Tolyl-m-nitrobenzohydroxamic acid

N-m-Tolyl-m-nitrobenzohydroxamic acid is used as a reagent for separation and gravimetric determination of Ce(3+), La(3+), Pr(3+), Nd(3+), Sm(3+) and Gd(3+). By proper control of pH and use of masking agents these metal ions can be separated from several others and determined gravimetrically. The complexes can be weighed as (C(14)H(11)N(2)O(4))(3)M after drying.     

Synthesis of some naturally occurring prenylated juglone derivatives

Synthesis of -caryopterone (I), -dihydrocaryopterone )II), 9-methoxy--lapachone (III) and 4,9-dihydroxy--lapachone (IV) has been carried out starting from juglone via 2,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone.
