Vinyl derivatives of thiocaprolactam

A study is made of the reaction of N-vinylcaprolactam with phosphorus pentasulfide. When the reaction is run in xylene, thiocaprolactam is isolated, when Na₂CO₃ is present, or pyridine, a dimer of N-vinylcaprolactam is formed. As a result of a study of the reaction of thiocaprolactam with acetylene under various conditions, a method is devloped for synthesizing new sulfur- and nitrogen-containing monomers of N-vinylthiocaprolactam and S-vinylthiocaprolactam.     

Research on unsaturated lactones. 49. Synthesis of thiazolidines that contain an α,β-unsaturated γ-lactone ring

The corresponding thiazolidines containing a lactone ring and their hydrochlorides and N-benzoyl derivatives were obtained by the reaction of 2-acetyl-3,4,4-trimethyl-2-buten-4-olide with thioglycolic or mercaptosuccinic acids and ammonium carbonate.See [1] for Communication 48.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 4, pp. 475–476, April, 1981.     

Optical terahertz wave generation in a planar GaAs waveguide

We report generation of terahertz (THz) radiation in a planar 61-microm-thick GaAs waveguide with a TM0 propagation mode, achieved by phase-matched difference frequency mixing. The THz output was centered near 2 THz and had 1 microW average power. As a pump source we utilized both the signal and the idler outputs of a near-degenerate type II synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator operating near 2 microm with the average powers of 250 and 750 mW, correspondingly.
