Fresnel diffraction on periodic gratings results in a two-dimensional periodic distribution of light intensity, also known as the Talbot effect. Here this approach is extended to the family of superimposed structures with translational symmetry, which consist of superposed spatial harmonics. The Talbot effect is demonstrated to be valid for superimposed gratings. The considered superimposed gratings provide a wide range of textures of optical super-lattices. These texture super-lattices represent a Talbot carpets with a complex motif, which can be varied by choosing structure parameters. These results provide a new functionality for structuring optical lattices and can find potential applications in a wide range of light–matter interactions. 相似文献

A one-dimensional ZrO2/SiO2 photonic crystal with a 4-n -pentyl-4' -cyanobiphenyl (5CB) nematic defect layer was used to investigate the transmission spectra of light polarized
parallel and perpendicular to the liquid-crystal director at different angles of incidence. The spectra of the photonic crystal
were shown to split into four polarized components Tij at oblique incidence. When the incident angle increased, the bandgap edges and the defect modes shifted towards short wavelengths,
while the amplitudes of the defect modes increased for the transverse magnetic polarization and decreased for the transverse
electric polarization. The observed discrepancy between the defect mode amplitudes in the center and near the edges of the
photonic bandgap was found to be related to the radiation losses inside the defect layer of a non-ideal photonic crystal.
The simulated transmission spectra obtained using recurrence relations and taking into account the decay of defect modes are

Advantages of nonlinear frequency-mixing in gas-filled waveguides to generate vuv radiation are analyzed. Under phase-matching conditions the waveguides are shown to provide a much higher conversion efficiency (up to 102÷104 times) as compared to the tight focusing into the bulk gas medium. We investigate experimentally the nonlinear transmission of a photonic crystal with a nematic liquid-crystal defect upon reorientation of the director in a field of cw laser radiation propagating at a certain angle to the sample. At different detunings, we observed the regimes of bistability, differential gain, and optical limiting. The resonance transmission peaks were detuned from the laser radiation wavelength by changing the angle of light incidence onto the sample. The value of nematic nonlinear constant n 2 determined from the experimental data is in good agreement with the theoretical estimate. 相似文献

We present STAR measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v(2) and the binary-collision scaled centrality ratio R(CP) for kaons and lambdas (Lambda+Lambda) at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at square root of s(NN)=200 GeV. In combination, the v(2) and R(CP) particle-type dependencies contradict expectations from partonic energy loss followed by standard fragmentation in vacuum. We establish p(T) approximately 5 GeV/c as the value where the centrality dependent baryon enhancement ends. The K(0)(S) and Lambda+Lambda v(2) values are consistent with expectations of constituent-quark-number scaling from models of hadron formation by parton coalescence or recombination. 相似文献

We report the first observations of the first harmonic (directed flow, v(1)) and the fourth harmonic (v(4)), in the azimuthal distribution of particles with respect to the reaction plane in Au+Au collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Both measurements were done taking advantage of the large elliptic flow (v(2)) generated at RHIC. From the correlation of v(2) with v(1) it is determined that v(2) is positive, or in-plane. The integrated v(4) is about a factor of 10 smaller than v(2). For the sixth (v(6)) and eighth (v(8)) harmonics upper limits on the magnitudes are reported. 相似文献
