A polarographic method for the determination of lead in tin-base alloys is described For alloys containing more than 2% lead no separations are necessary; in those with a lower lead content, most of the copper present must be removed as cupric oxide Results are exact: ±4% of the amount of lead present.

The authors have elaborated an exact micro-gravimetric method for the determination of lead with thionalide.     

α,ω-Glycols from copolymers of isobutylene and 2,5-dimethyl-2,4-hexadiene

Isobutylene has been copolymerized with 2,5-dimethyl-2,4-hexadiene using a boron trifluoride catalyst in petroleum ether solution. Ozonization of the products followed by reduction with lithium aluminum hydride has furnished polyisobutylene glycols in good yield.     

Role of the 2D surface state continuum and projected band gap in charge transfer in front of a Cu(111) surface

Electron capture by Li+ and H projectiles in grazing scattering from Cu(111) and Cu(110) surfaces is studied experimentally and theoretically. Whereas data for Cu(110) can be described by established theoretical methods treating resonant charge transfer with a free-electron metal, data for Cu(111) show pronounced deviations from this approach. We interpret our observations by the effect of the projected L-band gap of the Cu(111) surface. In particular, the quantum states of reduced dimension (2D surface state continuum) play a dominant role in electron transfer.     

Studies on the total synthesis of tallysomycin. Synthesis of the threonylbithiazole moiety containing a structurally unique glycosylcarbinolamide

[structure: see text]. Tallysomycins are glycopeptide antibiotics that were first isolated from fermentation broths of Streptoalloteichus hindustanus. They are structurally related to the bleomycins but contain an additional talose sugar attached via a unique glycosylcarbinolamide linkage. Herein we report the synthesis of a key tallysomycin intermediate that incorporates the glycosylcarbinolamide moiety unique to the tallysomycins.
