Utilizing a sum rule in a spin-resolved photoelectron spectroscopic experiment with circularly polarized light, we show that the orbital moment in LaTiO3 is strongly reduced from its ionic value, both below and above the Ne el temperature. Using Ti L2,3 x-ray absorption spectroscopy as a local probe, we found that the crystal-field splitting in the t2g subshell is about 0.12-0.30 eV. This large splitting does not facilitate the formation of an orbital liquid. 相似文献

Charge and orbital ordering in the low-temperature monoclinic structure of magnetite (Fe3O4) is investigated using the local spin density approximation with Coulomb interaction correction method. While the difference between t(2g) minority occupancies of Fe(2+)(B) and Fe(3+)(B) cations is large and gives direct evidence for charge ordering, the screening is so effective that the total 3d charge disproportion is rather small. The charge order has a pronounced [001] modulation, which is incompatible with the Anderson criterion. The orbital order agrees with the Kugel-Khomskii theory. 相似文献

Coherent population trapping in a gas discharge was studied for transitions between excited levels of neon atoms. Resonances corresponding to the arising of coherent population trapping in the Λ and V schemes for Zeeman sublevels of the lower and upper working states were observed in the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field. The effect of nonlinear polarization plane rotation under coherent population trapping conditions was studied. A numerical analysis is presented of two-dimensional interaction between a transverse vortex and a composite compression wave that can exist in a thermodynamically nonideal medium. It is shown that the interaction of a composite wave involving a “neutrally stable” shock with a vortex generates weakly damped outgoing acoustic waves; i.e., the shock is a source of sound. Recent experiments have utilizied high-power subpicosecond laser pulses to effect the ultrafast heating of a condensed material
to temperatures far above the critical temperature. Using optical diagnostics it was established that a complicated density
profile with sharp gradients, differing substantially from an ordinary rarefaction wave, forms in the expanding heated matter.
