Information related to the potential environmental exposure of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) in the solid waste management phase is extremely scarce. In this paper, we define nanowaste as separately collected or collectable waste materials which are or contain ENMs, and we present a five-step framework for the systematic assessment of ENM exposure during nanowaste management. The framework includes deriving EOL nanoproducts and evaluating the physicochemical properties of the nanostructure, matrix properties and nanowaste treatment processes as well as transformation processes and environment releases, eventually leading to a final assessment of potential ENM exposure. The proposed framework was applied to three selected nanoproducts: nanosilver polyester textile, nanoTiO2 sunscreen lotion and carbon nanotube tennis racquets. We found that the potential global environmental exposure of ENMs associated with these three products was an estimated 0.5–143 Mg/year, which can also be characterised qualitatively as medium, medium, low, respectively. Specific challenges remain and should be subject to further research: (1) analytical techniques for the characterisation of nanowaste and its transformation during waste treatment processes, (2) mechanisms for the release of ENMs, (3) the quantification of nanowaste amounts at the regional scale, (4) a definition of acceptable limit values for exposure to ENMs from nanowaste and (5) the reporting of nanowaste generation data.  相似文献

Dimethylformamide (DMF) acts as an efficient source of carbon monoxide and dimethylamine in the palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation (Heck carbonylation) of p-tolyl bromide to provide the dimethylamide. Addition of amines to the reaction mixture in excess delivers the corresponding aryl amides in good yields. The amines employed, benzylamine, morpholine, and aniline, all constitute good reaction partners. The reaction proceeds smoothly with bromobenzene and more electron-rich aryl bromides, but electron-deficient aryl bromides fail to undergo aminocarbonylation. The reactions are conducted at 180-190 degrees C for 15-20 min with microwave heating in a reaction mixture containing imidazole and potassium tert-butoxide: the latter is required to promote decomposition of the DMF solvent at a suitable rate. The beneficial effects of controlled microwave irradiation as an energy source for the rapid heating of the carbonylation reaction mixture are demonstrated. The carbonylation procedure reported herein, which relies on the in situ generation of carbon monoxide, serves as a convenient alternative to other carbonylation methods and is particularly applicable to small-scale reactions where short reaction times are desired and the direct use of carbon monoxide gas is impractical.  相似文献

We have developed a methodological system consisting of a new surface sensitive quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) sensor surfaces together with different surface modification methods for the investigation of surface associated complement activation in human sera. The QCM-D surface, 10 mm in diameter, was modified by spin-coating of poly(urethane urea) (PUUR) and polystyrene (PS). Some sensor surfaces were also sputtered with titanium (Ti) or modified by hydrophobic self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of an 18-carbon alkane thiol with a ---CH3 end group. The amount of surface deposited complement protein was investigated by incubation of the modified sensor surfaces in human sera, followed by incubation with antibodies directed against complement factor 3c (C3c). The amounts of bound anti-C3c were then used as an arbitrary measure of surface induced complement activation. The order of complement activation of the different surfaces, as judged by three separate measurements per surface modification, was PUUR>PS=SAM>Ti. The Ti surface had a similar low degree of anti-C3c binding as the negative controls (heat inactivated sera). The novel QCM-D methodology was found to be very simple, accurate, sensitive and well suited as a screening method for complement activation and protein adsorption on different materials. We also compared the sensitivity of QCM-D method with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for the quantification of protein adsorption and complement activation on gold sensor surfaces. The QCM-D method was equally sensitive as the SPR for the detection of protein adsorption from a solution independently if low flow rate (5 μl/min) was used. A slight increase in sensitivity was found at higher flow rate (30 μl/min). However, we found it difficult to use the SPR method on the Ti, PS and PUUR surfaces due to decreased light penetration of the modified SPR sensor chip.  相似文献

We prove that, if |V(T)| ≥ max{2il(T) + 2|V1| + 2|V2| − 2, il(T) + 3|V1| − 1}, then D is Hamiltonian. Furthermore, if T is regular (i.e., il(T) = 0), then we state slightly better lower bounds for |V(T)| such that we still can guarantee that D is Hamiltonian. Current state-of-the-art techniques for CO2 capture are presented and discussed. Post-combustion capture of CO2 by absorption is the technology most easily retrofitted to existing installations, but at present this is not economically viable to install and run. Using ionic liquids instead of aqueous amine solutions overcomes the major thermodynamic issues. By applying SILP technology further advances, in terms of ease of handling and sorption dynamics, are obtained. Initial experimental studies showed that ionic liquids such as tetrahexylammonium prolinate, [N6666][Pro], provide a good candidate for CO2 absorption using SILP technology. Thus a solid SILP absorber comprised of 40 wt% [N6666][Pro] loaded on precalcined silica quantitatively takes up about 1.2 mole CO2 per mole of ionic liquid in consecutive absorption-desorption cycles in a flow-experiment performed with 0.09 bar of CO2 (9% CO2 in He).  相似文献

The crystal structure of the κ-carbide in the FeWC system has been refined from neutron powder diffraction data using the Rietveld profile analysis method. κ-(FeWC) is isostructural with κ-(CoWC); space group P63mmc; unit cell dimensions a = 7.7982(2)Å, c = 7.8298(4) Å. The structure refinement indicates FeW substitution at two of the tungsten sites, and 46% vacancies at one of the carbon sites. The composition corresponds to the formula Fe3+xW10?xC4?y, with x = 0.57(3) and y = 0.46(1).  相似文献

Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4, 2D6, 2C9, 2C19, and 1A2 are the most important drug-metabolizing enzymes in the human liver. Knowledge of which parts of a drug molecule are subject to metabolic reactions catalyzed by these enzymes is crucial for rational drug design to mitigate ADME/toxicity issues. SMARTCyp, a recently developed 2D ligand structure-based method, is able to predict site-specific metabolic reactivity of CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 substrates with an accuracy that rivals the best and more computationally demanding 3D structure-based methods. In this article, the SMARTCyp approach was extended to predict the metabolic hotspots for CYP2C9, CYP2C19, and CYP1A2 substrates. This was accomplished by taking into account the impact of a key substrate-receptor recognition feature of each enzyme as a correction term to the SMARTCyp reactivity. The corrected reactivity was then used to rank order the likely sites of CYP-mediated metabolic reactions. For 60 CYP1A2 substrates, the observed major sites of CYP1A2 catalyzed metabolic reactions were among the top-ranked 1, 2, and 3 positions in 67%, 80%, and 83% of the cases, respectively. The results were similar to those obtained by MetaSite and the reactivity + docking approach. For 70 CYP2C9 substrates, the observed sites of CYP2C9 metabolism were among the top-ranked 1, 2, and 3 positions in 66%, 86%, and 87% of the cases, respectively. These results were better than the corresponding results of StarDrop version 5.0, which were 61%, 73%, and 77%, respectively. For 36 compounds metabolized by CYP2C19, the observed sites of metabolism were found to be among the top-ranked 1, 2, and 3 sites in 78%, 89%, and 94% of the cases, respectively. The computational procedure was implemented as an extension to the program SMARTCyp 2.0. With the extension, the program can now predict the site of metabolism for all five major drug-metabolizing enzymes with an accuracy similar to or better than that achieved by the best 3D structure-based methods. Both the Java source code and the binary executable of the program are freely available to interested users.  相似文献

The influence of temperature and moisture activity on the viscoelastic behavior of fluorinated membranes for fuel cell applications was investigated. Uncrosslinked and crosslinked ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE)‐based proton‐conducting membranes were prepared by radiation grafting and subsequent sulfonation and their behavior was compared with ETFE base film and commercial Nafion® NR212 membrane. Uniaxial tensile tests and stress relaxation tests at controlled temperature and relative humidity (RH) were carried out at 30 and 50 °C for 10% < RH < 90%. Grafted films were stiffer and exhibited stronger strain hardening when compared with ETFE. Similarly, both uncrosslinked and crosslinked membranes were stiffer and stronger than Nafion®. Yield stress was found to decrease and moisture sensitivity to increase on sulfonation. The viscoelastic relaxation of the grafted films was found to obey a power‐law behavior with exponent equal to ?0.04 ± 0.01, a factor of almost 2 lower than ETFE, weakly influenced by moisture and temperature. Moreover, the grafted films presented a higher hygrothermal stability when compared with their membranes counterparts. In the case of membranes, a power‐law behavior at RH < 60% was also observed. However, a markedly different behavior was evident at RH > 60%, with an almost single relaxation time exponential. An exponential decrease of relaxation time with RH from 60 s to 10 s was obtained at RH ≥ 70% and 30 °C. The general behavior of grafted films observed at 30 °C was also obtained at 50 °C. However, an anomalous result was noticed for the membranes, with a higher modulus at 50 °C when compared with 30 °C. This behavior was explained by solvation of the sulfonic acid groups by water absorption creating hydrogen bonding within the clusters. A viscoelastic phase diagram was elaborated to map critical conditions (temperature and RH) for transitions in time‐dependent behavior, from power‐law scaling to exponential scaling. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A set M of edges of a graph G is a matching if no two edges in M are incident to the same vertex. A set S of vertices in G is a total dominating set of G if every vertex of G is adjacent to some vertex in S. The matching number is the maximum cardinality of a matching of G, while the total domination number of G is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. In this paper, we investigate the relationships between the matching and total domination number of a graph. We observe that the total domination number of every claw-free graph with minimum degree at least three is bounded above by its matching number, and we show that every k-regular graph with k?3 has total domination number at most its matching number. In general, we show that no minimum degree is sufficient to guarantee that the matching number and total domination number are comparable.  相似文献

Elastic SH wave propagation in a layered anisotropic plate withinterface damage is modelled in several steps. A single interfacecrack between two half-spaces is first studied and an explicitsolution for the crack-opening displacement is obtained at lowfrequencies. This is then generalised to a random distributionof cracks at the interface and the result is reformulated asa spring boundary condition. As an example of its usefulness,this boundary condition is then used in the derivation of aplate equation by expanding the displacements in power seriesin the thickness coordinate.  相似文献
