The kinetics and mechanism of the substitution of coordinated water in nitrilotriacetate complexes of iron(III) (Fe(NTA)(OH(2))(2) and Fe(NTA)(OH(2))(OH)(-)) by phosphate (H(2)PO(4)(-) and HPO(4)(2)(-)) and acetohydroxamic acid (CH(3)C(O)N(OH)H) were investigated. The phosphate reactions were found to be pH dependent in the range of 4-8. Phosphate substitution rates are independent of the degree of phosphate protonation, and pH dependence is due to the difference in reactivity of Fe(NTA)(OH(2))(2) (k = 3.6 x 10(5) M(-)(1) s(-)(1)) and Fe(NTA)(OH(2))(OH)(-) (k = 2.4 x 10(4) M(-)(1) s(-)(1)). Substitution by acetohydroxamic acid is insensitive to pH in the range of 4-5.2, and Fe(NTA)(OH(2))(2) and Fe(NTA)(OH(2))(OH)(-) react at equivalent rates (k = 4.2 x 10(4) and 3.8 x 10(4) M(-)(1) s(-)(1), respectively). Evidence for acid-dependent and acid-independent back-reactions was obtained for both the phosphate and acetohydroxamate complexes. Reactivity patterns were analyzed in the context of NTA labilization of coordinated water, and outer-sphere electrostatic and H-bonding influences were analyzed in the precursor complex (K(os)).  相似文献

The effects of a water-permeable polymer coating on the performance and fouling of high-flux (ESPA1 and ESPA3) and low-flux (SWC4) polyamide reverse osmosis (RO) membranes were investigated. It was anticipated that the coating would create a smoother hydrophilic surface that would be less susceptible to fouling when challenged with a motor-oil/surfactant/water feed emulsion (used as a model foulant). AFM and FT-IR analyses confirm that a 1 wt.% polyether–polyamide (PEBAX® 1657) solution applied to ESPA and SWC4 membranes produces a continuous polymer coating layer and, thereby, provides smoother membrane surfaces. However, pure-water permeation data combined with a series-resistance model analysis reveal that the coating does not only cover the surface of the polyamide membrane, but also penetrates into its porous ridge-and-valley structure. During a long-term (106-day) fouling test with an oil/surfactant/water emulsion, the rate of flux decline was slower for coated than for uncoated membranes. This improvement in fouling resistance compensated for the decrease in permeate flux for SWC4 over a period of approximately 40 days. However, the coating material is believed to penetrate more deeply into the polyamide surface layer of the high flux, high surface area ESPA membranes relative to the low-flux SWC4, resulting in significant water flux reduction.  相似文献

A high-resolution, phase-sensitive, natural abundance F2-coupled 1H-13C HSQC (F2HSQC) NMR experiment was developed to measure simultaneously both (n)D(HH) and 1D(CH) residual dipolar couplings (RDCs) of small molecules present in a chiral polypeptide liquid crystal solvent system composed of poly-gamma-benzyl-L-glutamate (PBLG) in CDCl3. Because this is an indirect-detection NMR experiment, the relatively small amount of sample (7.5 mg in this study) and short acquisition times (5 h) that are required make this HSQC experiment well suited for samples that are either limited in solubility or in quantity or require short analysis times. The F2HSQC experiment can be performed without any specialized equipment or sample modification and can enhance our ability to measure RDCs accurately and rapidly in polypeptide liquid crystal solvents.  相似文献

Fast computer simulation of the electron spin resonance and adiabatic rapid passage spectra of spin labels characterized by rotational correlation times ranging from the fast motion to the rigid lattice limits is demonstrated. Calculations are based upon a modification of the stochastic Liouville equation for the density matrix which explicitly includes interaction of the spins with applied radiation and modulation fields.
