Purpose

To retrospectively identify apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of pediatric abdominal mass lesions, to determine whether measured ADC of the lesions and signal intensity on diffusion-weighted (DW) images allow discrimination between benign and malignant mass lesions.

Materials and Methods

Approval for this retrospective study was obtained from the institutional review board. Children with abdominal mass lesions, who were examined by DW magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were included in this study. DW MR images were obtained in the axial plane by using a non breath-hold single-shot spin-echo sequence on a 1.5-T MR scanner. ADCs were calculated for each lesion. ADC values were compared with Mann–Whitney U test. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine cut-off values for ADC. The results of visual assessment on b800 images and ADC map images were compared with chi-square test.

Results

Thirty-one abdominal mass lesions (16 benign, 15 malignant) in 26 patients (15 girls, 11 boys, ranging from 2 days to 17 years with 6.9 years mean) underwent MRI. Benign lesions had significantly higher ADC values than malignant ones (P<.001). The mean ADCs of malignant lesions were 0.84±1.7×10−3 mm2/s, while the mean ADCs of the benign ones were 2.28±1.00×10−3 mm2/s. With respect to cutoff values of ADC: 1.11×10−3 mm2/s, sensitivity and negative predictive values were 100%, specificity was 78.6% and positive predictive value was 83.3%. For b800 and ADC map images, there were statistically significant differences on visual assessment. All malignant lesions had variable degrees of high signal intensity whereas eight of the 16 benign ones had low signal intensities on b800 images (P<.001). On ADC map images, all malignant lesions were hypointense and most of the benign ones (n=11, 68.7%) were hyperintense (P<.001).

Conclusion

DW imaging can be used for reliable discrimination of benign and malignant pediatric abdominal mass lesions based on considerable differences in the ADC values and signal intensity changes.  相似文献

Adsorption of water vapour on wool provides not only textile comfort, but also convenience in transportation due to increase in its bulk density. The adsorption and desorption isotherms of water vapour for wool were determined by both volumetric technique using a Coulter Omnisorp 100CX instrument and gravimetric method employing a Cahn 2000 electronic microbalance. Adsorption isotherm fitting to B.E.T. model and hysteresis on desorption was observed. The average effective diffusion coefficient of water in wool was found to be 8.4 × 10-14 m2s-1 at 25°C from gravimetric data. The effects of packing height and air velocity on the breakthrough curves were also investigated in the wool packed columns. For pseudo first order model, k values changing between 0.33 × 10-6 – 69 × 10-6 s-1 was obtained for 2.2–6.4 cm s-1 air velocity and 0.05–0.20 m packing height ranges.  相似文献

Our purpose was to investigate, by magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopy, the metabolite changes in the brains of subjects in the shoemaking industry who had been chronically exposed to organic solvents. A total of 49 male subjects and 30 age-matched healthy volunteers underwent detailed neurological and psychiatric examinations. All subjects had long-echo [repetition time (TR) 2000 ms, echo time (TE) 136 ms] single-voxel MR spectroscopy. Voxels (15 x 15 x 15 mm(3)) were placed in the parietal white matter, thalamus, and basal ganglia. N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/creatine (Cr) and choline (Cho)/Cr ratios were calculated. There was no significant difference between the study subjects and the control group in NAA/Cr ratios obtained from thalamus, basal ganglia, and parietal white matter. Cho/Cr ratios in thalamus, basal ganglia, and parietal white matter were found to be significantly increased compared to controls. There was a positive correlation between basal ganglia Cho/Cr ratio and duration of exposure (r = 0.63). MR spectroscopy should be performed to reveal metabolite changes and determine the degree of brain involvement in solvent-related industry workers.  相似文献

Different functions describing matrix-fracture transfer were tested for counter-current capillary imbibition interaction. The recovery curves obtained from capillary imbibition experiments were used to fit the transfer functions. The exponential coefficients yielding the best fit to the experimental data were obtained and correlated to the effective parameters such as viscosity, IFT, matrix length and diameter, matrix permeability and porosity, and wettability using multivariable regression analysis. In order to obtain the recovery curves, experiments were conducted on Berea sandstone and Indiana limestone samples. Cylindrical samples with different shape factors were obtained by cutting the plugs 1, 2.5, and 5 cm in diameter and 2.5, 5, and 10 cm in length. All sides were coated with epoxy except one end. More than fifty static imbibition experiments were carried out on vertically and horizontally situated samples where the imbibition took place upward and lateral directions, respectively. Brine–air, brine–kerosene, brine–mineral oil, and surfactant solution–mineral oil pairs were used as fluids. For many matrix shape factors (especially longer and small diameter ones), dividing the recovery curve into three parts were needed as the early, intermediate, and late times, which are typically distinguished by the time required for the imbibition front to reach the closed boundary at the end of the core. Correlations among the exponential coefficients and rock/fluid properties were developed. It was observed that different rock/fluid properties and transfer mechanisms (capillary imbibition and gravity drainage) govern the process for each part. Hence, the analyses done in this study were useful not only for developing explicit transfer functions but also identifying the physics of the counter-current imbibition recovery.  相似文献

Co-and counter-current type transfers due to diffusion and -free- convection caused by the buoyant forces between fracture and matrix were studied experimentally using 2-D glass-bead models. Mineral oil and kerosene were used as the displaced phase. The model saturated with oil was exposed to solvent phase (pentane) under static conditions (no flow in fracture) to mimic matrix-fracture interaction during gas or liquid solvent injection in naturally fractured reservoirs. Displacement fronts and patterns were analyzed and quantified using fractal techniques to obtain correlations between the fractal properties and displacement type. Displacements resulted in a mixture of bulk diffusion and -free- convection mainly depending on the interaction type (co- or counter-current), oil type, and displacement direction (horizontal and vertical). Conditions yielding different types of displacement patterns were identified. Finally, a stochastic model that was inspired from invasion percolation and diffusion limited aggregation algorithms was developed for the horizontal displacement cases. The experimental observations were matched to the displacement patterns obtained through the stochastic modeling.  相似文献

We introduce vector-valued sequence spaces w (F, Q, p, u), w 1(F, Q, p, u), w 0(F, Q, p, u), S u q , and S 0u q using a sequence of modulus functions and a multiplier sequence u = (u k ) of nonzero complex numbers. We give some relations for these sequence spaces. It is also shown that if a sequence is strongly u q -Cesàro summable with respect to the modulus function, then it is u q -statistically convergent. In addition to rare phenylethanoid triglycosides, myricoside and its dimetylether derivative serratumoside A {3-hydroxy,4-methoxy-beta-phenylethoxy-O-beta-D-apiofuranosyl-(1-->3)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->3)-4-O-feruloyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside}, a new phenylethanoid glycoside, myricoside-3"-O-methylether {3,4-dihydroxy-beta-phenylethoxy-O-beta-D-apiofuranosyl-(1-->3)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->3)-4-O-feruloyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside} along with a new neolignan glucoside, (7S, 8R)-dehydroconiferyl alcohol-8-5'-dehydroconiferyl aldehyde 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside were isolated from the aerial parts of Phlomis oppositiflora. The structures of the new compounds were identified by means of spectroscopic (UV, IR, 1D- and 2D-NMR, and LC-ESIMS) methods.  相似文献

Critical parameters playing a role in oil recovery by capillary imbibition of surfactant solutions were studied. Experiments conducted on sandstone and carbonate samples using different oil and surfactant types were evaluated for surfactant selection. In this evaluation interfacial tension (IFT), surfactant type, solubility characteristics of surfactants, rock type, initial water (pre-wet rock), and surfactant concentration were considered. In addition to these, a new technique was adopted to facilitate the surfactant screening process. This technique is based on assigning inorganic and organic property values and plotting organic conception diagrams (OCD) for surfactants. OCD defines the property of a compound in terms of physical chemistry in such a way that the property that depends much on the van der Waals force is called "organic" and the one that depends much on electric affinity is called "inorganic." Correlations between the capillary imbibition recovery performance and the properties of surfactant and oil (organic value (OV), inorganic value (IV), and IFT of surfactant solutions, oil viscosity, and surfactant type) were obtained. These correlations are expected to be useful in selecting the proper surfactant for improved oil recovery as well as identifying the effects of surfactant properties on the capillary imbibition performance.  相似文献

The critical and optimum injection rates as well as the critical fracture capillary number for an efficient displacement process are determined based on the experimental and numerical modeling of the displacement of nonwetting phase (oil) by wetting phase (water) in fractured porous media. The efficiency of the process is defined in terms of the nonwetting phase displaced from the system per amount of wetting phase injected and per time. Also, the effects of injection rate on capillary imbibition transfer dominated two-phase flow in fractured porous media are clarified by visualizing the experiments. The results reveal that as the injection rate is increased, fracture pattern begins to become an effective parameter on the matrix saturation distribution. As the rate is lowered, however, the system begins to behave like a homogeneous system showing a frontal displacement regardless the fracture configuration.  相似文献
