Rapid and Efficient Microwave‐Assisted Synthesis of Some New Triazol‐3‐one Derivatives

A growing body of literature has shown the effectiveness of using microwaves in chemical reactions. The aim of this study is to demonstrate a rapid and highly efficient synthesis of some new triazol‐3‐ones via microwave heating using a monomode microwave. Compared with the thermal process, the microwave heating induces a dramatic reduction of the reaction time and improvement of the yields. In this study, rapid N‐benzylation and N‐acetylation of triazol‐3‐ones were achieved by microwave irradiation method for the first time. The newly synthesized compounds showed moderate antimicrobial activity against the standard bacterial and fungal organisms tested.     

Decarbonylative C-C bond forming reactions mediated by transition metals

New methods for carbon-carbon (C-C) forming reactions are constantly emerging in the field of organic synthesis. In this review, a brief history followed by recent developments of decarbonylative C-C forming reactions mediated by transition metals is described. Many different substrates are presented and the review is organized by the different carbonyl precursors, such as acyl chlorides, aldehydes, anhydrides, esters and ketones, used in the respective transformations. Furthermore, the broad scope of these reactions is exhibited by the application to several reaction types (e.g. Heck-type reactions, Suzuki cross-coupling type reactions, C-H activation, etc.) as well as a natural product synthesis (e.g. muscroride A). While several examples are provided, this review marks the beginning of a new field that is still in its infancy and for what might be a new approach to achieve highly efficient reactions that come closer to meeting the standards of chemical economies (e.g. atom, redox, step, etc.) and green chemistry.     

Discrete Systems and their Characteristic Spectral Functions

We define first-order discrete systems in the matrix-valued case. They are characterized by sequences of pair of matrices, called admissible sequences. We present two important examples of such sequences, called Szeg? and Nehari sequences. We introduce the characteristic spectral functions associated to a first-order system. We define in particular the scattering function, the Weyl function and the reflection coefficient function and we study the relationships between these functions. Fluidized and vibrofluidized shallow beds of fresh leaves

Proton MR spectroscopy features of normal appearing white matter in neurofibromatosis type 1

To determine whether differences exist between neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients with or without focal lesions and healthy normal volunteers in the metabolite ratios of normal appearing white matter, 27 patients with NF1 (with parenchymal lesion, MR positive, n: 17; without parenchymal lesions, MR negative, n: 10) and 20 healthy volunteers underwent MRI and short TE (31 ms) proton MR spectroscopy (MRS). In 17 patients with parenchymal lesions, 61 focal lesions were detected by MRI. MRS was performed from normal appearing frontal and posterior parietal white matter (FWM and PWM) in NF1 and from control groups. NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr and MI/Cr ratios were calculated. Significant increase in Cho/Cr and MI/Cr ratios were found in FWM and PWM in MR negative and positive groups when compared to control group. NAA/Cr ratio in MR positive group was significantly decreased in FWM compared to control group. There were no significant differences between FWM and PWM in all metabolite ratios of MR negative group. MI/Cr ratio in MR positive group was significantly elevated in PWM compared to FWM. Metabolite changes detected by MRS could indicate demyelination and gliosis in normal appearing white matter in all NF1 patients, and additionally neuroaxonal damage in the FWM of NF1 patients with focal lesions. For that reason, in the clinical evaluation and follow-up of these patients MRS features of normal appearing white matter should be considered in addition to focal lesions.     

Enhancement of second harmonic generation efficiency: Growth and characterization of magnesium(II)-doped tetrakis(thiourea)nickel(II) chloride crystals

The influence of magnesium doping on the properties of tetrakis(thiourea)nickel(II) chloride crystals has been described. The reduction in the intensity observed in powder X-ray diffraction of doped specimen and slight shifts in vibrational frequencies confirm the lattice stress as a result of doping. Surface morphological changes due to doping of the alkaline earth metal are observed by scanning electron microscopy. The incorporation of Mg(II) into the crystal lattice was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Lattice parameters are determined by single crystal XRD analysis. The thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis studies reveal the purity of the materials and no decomposition is observed up to the melting point. The crystal is further characterized by Kurtz powder technique and dielectric studies.
