Knowledge of the structure of active sites is a prerequisite for the rational design of solid catalysts. Using site-selective blocking by CO and isotope labeling combined with in situ attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) spectroscopy, we were able to discriminate the different sites involved in the liquid-phase oxidation of benzyl alcohol on Pd/Al(2)O(3). The main reaction, that is, the oxidative dehydrogenation of the alcohol to the corresponding aldehyde, showed only little dependence on structure and occurred on all exposed Pd faces, whereas the undesired product decarbonylation occurred preferentially on hollow sites on (111) Pd faces. This explains why specific blocking of the latter sites, as realized in the industrially used Pd-Bi/Al(2)O(3) catalysts, leads to improved catalytic performance.  相似文献

Vacuum ultraviolet photoionization of a gas-phase oligonucleotide anion leads to the formation of a valence hole. This hole migrates towards an energetically favorable site where it can weaken bonds and ultimately lead to bond cleavage. We have studied Vacuum UV photoionization of deprotonated oligonucleotides containing the human telomere sequence dTTAGGG and G-quadruplex structures consisting of four dTGGGGT single strands, stabilized by NH4+ counter ions. The oligonucleotide and G-quadruplex anions were confined in a radiofrequency ion trap, interfaced with a synchrotron beamline and the photofragmentation was studied using time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Oligonucleotide 12-mers containing the 5'-TTAGGG sequence were found to predominantly break in the GGG region, whereas no selective bond cleavage region was observed for the reversed 5'-GGGATT sequence. For G-quadruplex structures, fragmentation was quenched and mostly non-dissociative single and double electron removal was observed.  相似文献

Using femtosecond laser writing, optical waveguides were monolithically integrated into a commercial microfluidic lab-on-a-chip device, with the waveguides intersecting a microfluidic channel. Continuous-wave laser excitation through these optical waveguides confines the excitation window to a width of 12 microm, enabling high-resolution monitoring of the passage of different types of fluorescent analytes when migrating and being separated in the microfluidic channel by microchip capillary electrophoresis. Furthermore, we demonstrate on-chip-integrated waveguide excitation and detection of a biologically relevant species, fluorescently labeled DNA molecules, during microchip capillary electrophoresis. Well-controlled plug formation as required for on-chip integrated capillary electrophoresis separation of DNA molecules, and the combination of waveguide excitation and a low limit of detection, will enable monitoring of extremely small quantities with high spatial resolution.  相似文献

This paper provides an overview of the rather new field concerning the applications of femtosecond laser microstructuring of glass to optofluidics. Femtosecond lasers have recently emerged as a powerful microfabrication tool due to their unique characteristics. On the one hand, they enable to induce a permanent refractive index increase, in a micrometer‐sized volume of the material, allowing single‐step, three‐dimensional fabrication of optical waveguides. On the other hand, femtosecond‐laser irradiation of fused silica followed by chemical etching enables the manufacturing of directly buried microfluidic channels. This opens the intriguing possibility of using a single laser system for the fabrication and three‐dimensional integration of optofluidic devices. This paper will review the state of the art of femtosecond laser fabrication of optical waveguides and microfluidic channels, as well as their integration for high sensitivity detection of biomolecules and for cell manipulation.  相似文献

Most developed countries support farming activities through policies that are tailored to meet their specific social, economic and environmental objectives. Economic and environmental efficiency have recently become relevant targets of most of these policies, whose sound implementation can be enhanced by monitoring farm performance from a multidimensional perspective. This paper proposes farm-level technical and environmental efficiency measures that recognize the stochastic conditions in which production takes place. A state-contingent framework is used to model production uncertainty. An implementable representation of the technology is developed using data envelopment analysis. The application focuses on a sample of Catalan arable crop farms. Results suggest that technical efficiency is slightly lower in bad than in good growing conditions. Nitrogen pollution can decrease substantially more under good than bad growing conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, the characterization and fluorescent labeling of silica rods are reported. These rods are synthesized following a recently reported method. Material properties of the silica rods measured with NMR, elemental analysis, TGA, and porosimetry are compared with those of well‐established Stöber silica spheres. Additionally, silica rods are made suitable for quantitative real‐space studies by confocal microscopy. Several methods of fluorescent labeling to prepare rods with different fluorescent patterning, ranging from uniform fluorescence levels to gradients from one rod‐end to the other, and even patterns of several colors are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Methods from nonlinear dynamics were applied to test the hypothesis that the dynamics of sustained atrial fibrillation (AF) is modified by the class Ic drug cibenzoline during pharmacological conversion. The experiments were performed in conscious goats in which sustained AF was induced by continuous maintenance of AF via programmed electrical stimulation. Data were collected from electrophysiological experiments in five goats to terminate sustained AF by continuous infusion of cibenzoline. Sets of five unipolar epicardial electrograms of one minute duration were recorded from the left and right atrial free wall during sustained AF (control), and at three episodes during infusion of cibenzoline, when the mean AF interval had been prolonged to 25%, 50% and 85% with respect to control. Ventricular far-field potentials were removed from atrial electrograms by a coherent averaging procedure. Using the Grassberger-Procaccia method, the dynamics of the local atrial electrograms was investigated by estimating the (coarse-grained) correlation dimension and correlation entropy from the correlation integral. The results were related to a recently proposed classification (types I-III) of AF based on the degree of complexity of atrial activation patterns. The coarse-grained correlation dimension D(cg) and entropy K(cg) indicated that sustained AF corresponded to type II. During drug administration the coarse-grained parameters were not significantly different from control. Scaling regions in the correlation integral were observed after infusion of cibenzoline (3 out of 5 goats) suggesting that the drug introduced low-dimensional features (type I) in the dynamics of AF (correlation dimension D ranging from 2.8 to 4.4 and correlation entropy K from 1.6 to 6.2 nats/s). Sinus rhythm recorded shortly after cardioversion was very regular (D<2 and K<3 nats/s). The hypothesis that the electrograms during AF and sinus rhythm were generated by a static transformation of a linear Gaussian random process was rejected using a test for time reversibility. The nonlinear analysis revealed that cibenzoline does not significantly alter the dynamics of sustained AF during pharmacological conversion other than a slowing down of the atrial activation and a somewhat increasing global organization of the atrial activation pattern. Palladium, Platinum, and Diiron Complexes with Isocyanoacetate: Ring Closure, Acid‐Induced Ring Opening, Diprotonation Substitution by isocyanoacetate (CNCH2CO2?) of one chloro ligand in trans‐[MCl2(PPh3)2] (M = Pd, Pt) results in the Δ2‐oxazolin‐5‐on‐2‐ato complexes 4a , b , i.e. immediate cyclization occurs in contact with these metal(II) species. In contrast, the open‐chain form of the functional isocyanide is retained in [K(18‐crown‐6][Fe2Cp2(CNCH2CO2)(CO)3] ( 16 ) in which it occupies a terminal position. Protonation (alkylation) of the platinum complex 4b proceeds with ring cleavage and formation of isocyano acetic acid 11 (ethyl isocyanoacetate 12 ) stabilized by metal ion coordination. Protonation of 16 requires two equivalents of acid to yield the aminocarbyne‐bridged complex [{μ‐C=N(H)CH2CO2H}Fe2Cp2(CO)3](BF4) ( 17 ) as the only isolable product. Here isocyanoacetate displays a third kind of reactivity pattern in addition to that at PdII/PtII and that at Cr0/W0 where the primary species [M(CO)5CNCH2CO2]? and [M(CO)5CNCH2CO2H] proved to be the most stable. All of the proposed structures are substantiated by analytical and the usual spectroscopic (IR, NMR{1H, 13C, 31P}, FAB‐MS) data, that of 4b also by an X‐ray structure determination which reveals a practically perpendicular arrangement of the coordination and the ring plane, and a long C2‐O bond as the predetermined breaking point of the heterocycle.  相似文献

Chemical modification of colloidal masks for nanolithography   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A method is presented to tune the holes in colloidal masks used for nanolithography. Using a simple wet-chemical method, a thin layer of silica is grown on masks of silica particles. The size of the holes is controlled by the amount of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) added. More accurate tuning of the hole size is possible in the presence of a calibrated seed dispersion of silica colloids. We demonstrate modified masks that were used to create arrays of metal nanoparticles with a size ranging from 400 nm, for unmodified masks, down to tens of nanometers. The method is easy-to-use, fast, and inexpensive.  相似文献
