Alpha-Fe(2)O(3) films having a mesoscopic leaflet type structure were produced for the first time by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) to explore their potential as oxygen-evolving photoanodes. The target of these studies is to use translucent hematite films deposited on conducting fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) glass as top electrodes in a tandem cell that accomplishes the cleavage of water into hydrogen and oxygen by sunlight. The properties of layers made by USP were compared to those deposited by conventional spray pyrolysis (SP). Although both types of films show similar XRD and UV-visible and Raman spectra, they differ greatly in their morphology. The mesoscopic alpha-Fe(2)O(3) layers produced by USP consist mainly of 100 nm-sized platelets with a thickness of 5-10 nm. These nanosheets are oriented mainly perpendicularly to the FTO support, their flat surface exposing (001) facets. The mesoscopic leaflet structure has the advantage that it allows for efficient harvesting of visible light, while offering at the same time the very short distance required for the photogenerated holes to reach the electrolyte interface before recombining with conduction band electrons. This allows for water oxidation by the valence band holes even though their diffusion length is only a few nanometers. Distances are longer in the particles produced by SP favoring recombination of photoinduced charge carriers. Open-circuit photovoltage measurements indicate a lower surface state density for the nanoplatelets as compared to the round particles. These factors explain the much higher photoactivity of the USP compared to the SP deposited alpha-Fe(2)O(3) layers. Addition of hydrogen peroxide to the alkaline electrolyte further improves the photocurrent-voltage characteristics of films generated by USP indicating the hole transfer from the valence band of the semiconductor oxide to the adsorbed water to be the rate-limiting kinetic step in the oxygen generation reaction. 相似文献

The essential oil of the leaves of Espeletia nana Cuatrec., obtained by hydrodistillation, was analyzed by GC-MS, which allowed the identification of 24 components, which made up 99.9% of the oil. The most abundant compounds were a-pinene (38.1%), beta-pinene (17.2%), myrcene (15.0%), spathulenol (4.2%), bicyclogermacrene (4.0%), a-zingiberene (4.0%), and gamma-himachalene (3.7%). Antibacterial activity was tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using the agar disk diffusion method. Activity was observed only against Gram-positive bacteria. As ab initio electronic structure calculations become more accurate, inherent sources of error in classical transition state theory such as barrier recrossing and tunneling may become major sources of error in calculating rate constants. This paper introduces a general method for diabatically constructing the transverse eigensystem of a reaction path Hamiltonian in systems with many degenerate transverse frequencies. The diabatically constructed reaction path Hamiltonian yields smoothly varying coupling constants that, in turn, facilitate reactive flux calculations. As an example we compute the dynamically corrected rate constant for the chair to boat interconversion of cyclohexane, a system with 48 degrees of freedom and a number of degenerate frequencies. The transmission coefficients obtained from the reactive flux simulations agree with previous results that have been calculated using an empirical potential. Furthermore, the calculated rate constants agree with experimental values. Comparison to variational transition state theory shows that, despite finding the true bottleneck along the reaction pathway, variational transition state theory only accounts for half of the rate constant reduction due to recrossing trajectories. 相似文献

Single crystals of dark-red MgB(7) were grown from the elements in a Cu-melt. The crystal structure (Pearson symbol oI64; space group Imma; a = 10.478(2) ?, b = 5.977(1) ?, c = 8.125(2) ?, 2842 reflns, 48 params, R(1)(F) = 0.018, R(2)(I) = 0.034) consists of a hexagonal-primitive packing of B(12)-icosahedra and B(2)-units in trigonal-prismatic voids. According to the UV-vis spectra and band structure calculations MgB(7) is semiconducting with an optical gap of 1.9 eV. The long B-B distance of 2.278 ? within the B(2)-unit can be seen as a weak bonding interaction. The new Mg(~5)B(44) occurs beside the well-known MgB(12) as a byproduct. Small fragments of the black crystals are dark-yellow and transparent. The crystal structure (Pearson symbol tP196, space group P4(1)2(1)2, a = 10.380(2) ?, c = 14.391(3) ?, 4080 reflns, 251 params, R(1)(F) = 0.025, R(2)(I) = 0.037) is closely related to tetragonal boron-II (t-B(192)). It consists of B(12)-icosahedra and B(19+1)-units. With a charge of -6 for the B(19+1)-units and a Mg-content of ~20 Mg-atoms per unit cell the observed Mg content in Mg(~5)B(44) is quite close to the expected value derived from simple electron counting rules. All compositions were confirmed by EDXS. The microhardness was measured on single crystals for MgB(7) (H(V) = 2125, H(K) = 2004) and MgB(12) (H(V) = 2360, H(K) = 2459). 相似文献

Hexagonal molybdenum trioxide thin films with good crystallinity and high purity have been fabricated by the liquid phase deposition (LPD) technique using molybdic acid (H2MoO4) dissolved in 2.82% hydrofluoric acid (HF) and H3BO3 as precursors. The crystal was found to belong to a hexagonal hydrate system MoO3.nH2O (n~0.56). The unit cell lattice parameters are a=10.651 Å, c=3.725 Å and V=365.997 Å3. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the as-deposited samples showed well-shaped hexagonal rods nuclei that grew and where the amount increased with increase in reaction time. X-ray photon electron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra showed a Gaussian shape of the doublet of Mo 3d core level, indicating the presence of Mo6+ oxidation state in the deposited films. The deposited films exhibited an electrochromic behavior by lithium intercalation and deintercalation, which resulted in coloration and bleaching of the film. Upon dehydration at about 450 °C, the hexagonal MoO3.nH2O was transformed into the thermodynamically stable orthorhombic phase. 相似文献
