Abstract

The kinetics of the oligomerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) by methoxide/methanol solutions was studied using gas chromatography techniques. The effects of the type of the alkali metal, [CH OH]/[monomer] ratio, solvent, and initiator concentration were investigated. The rate of conversion using different alkali metal alkoxides was in the order CH3OLi < CH3ONa < CH3OK, but no oligomers higher than the addition product, RO—MMA (n=1), could be obtained by CH3OLL DPn decreased with increasing the [CH3OH]/[monomer] ratio and with lowering of the initiator concentration. Using DMSO as solvent increased the yields of the higher oligomers. The formation of n=1 was reversible, contrary to the formation of the higher oligomers. Some of the rate constants of the various steps of the oligomerization were estimated by taking into account the reversibility of the initiation reaction and assuming steady-state conditions in the concentration of the various anions present in the system.  相似文献

The main drawback of drinking water chlorination involves the formation of quite hazardous disinfection by-products (DBPs), represented mainly by halogenated species. Based on the authors’ monitoring data since 2002, the prevalence of chlorine over bromine in the composition of volatile DBPs was shown for the drinking water in Ufa (Russia). However, the situation was completely reversed in the case of semi-volatile DBPs. The principal goal of the present study involved rationalization of the results of the long-term monitoring. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of volatile DBPs. Identification of semi-volatile compounds was carried out with GC-MS, while gas chromatography with an atomic emission detector (GC-AED) was used for their quantification. A significant contribution of oxygen to the composition of semi-volatile compounds proves the decisive role of the dissolved organic matter oxidative destructive processes. Statistical analysis revealed notable linear correlations for trihalomethane and haloacetic acid formation vs. chlorine dose. On the contrary, halogenated semi-volatile products do not demonstrate any correlations with the water quality parameters or chlorine dose. Principal component analysis (PCA) placed them into separate groups. The results allow for proposing that formation of the organohalogenated species involved the fast penetration of bromine into the humic matter molecules and, further, their oxidative destruction by active chlorine.  相似文献

Allostatic load (AL) is a complex clinical construct, providing a unique window into the cumulative impact of stress. However, due to its inherent complexity, AL presents two major measurement challenges to conventional statistical modeling (the field's dominant methodology): it is comprised of a complex causal network of bioallostatic systems, represented by an even larger set of dynamic biomarkers; and, it is situated within a web of antecedent socioecological systems, linking AL to differences in health outcomes and disparities. To address these challenges, we employed case‐based computational modeling (CBM), which allowed us to make four advances: (1) we developed a multisystem, 7‐factor (20 biomarker) model of AL's network of allostatic systems; (2) used it to create a catalog of nine different clinical AL profiles (causal pathways); (3) linked each clinical profile to a typology of 23 health outcomes; and (4) explored our results (post hoc) as a function of gender, a key socioecological factor. In terms of highlights, (a) the Healthy clinical profile had few health risks; (b) the pro‐inflammatory profile linked to high blood pressure and diabetes; (c) Low Stress Hormones linked to heart disease, TIA/Stroke, diabetes, and circulation problems; and (d) high stress hormones linked to heart disease and high blood pressure. Post hoc analyses also found that males were overrepresented on the High Blood Pressure (61.2%), Metabolic Syndrome (63.2%), High Stress Hormones (66.4%), and High Blood Sugar (57.1%); while females were overrepresented on the Healthy (81.9%), Low Stress Hormones (66.3%), and Low Stress Antagonists (stress buffers) (95.4%) profiles. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The determination of the crystalline structure of oriented fibers of poly-2,5-benzoxazole (ABPBO) and poly-2,6-ben-zothiazole (ABPBT) is described. Both unit cells are metrically orthorhombic, with the parameters: a = 6.061 (17), b = 3.384 (13), c (fiber axis) = 11.575 (6) Å for ABPBO; and a = 6.044 (6), b = 3.417 (7), c (fiber axis) = 12.194 (18) Å for ABPBT. The fiber repeat consists in each structure of two fused ring groups arranged in a planar, zigzag conformation. The conformational torsion angle and orientation of chains within the unit cells are derived from a linked-atom least squares refinement technique. Polymer chains pack laterally through van der Waals interactions. A plausible disorder model which involves defects in chain direction is presented. Refinement of a static disorder model for ABPBO in which 50% of the chains have their chain directions reversed leads to a lower R residual and sum of constraints.  相似文献

We demonstrate a new type of fiber optic bend sensor with a hybrid structure made up of a long period grating (LPG) and a tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG). The sensing mechanism is based on the spectrum of power transfers between the core and cladding modes from a TFBG located downstream from a LPG. We show that the curvature of a beam can be determined by the reflected power difference between the core mode and the recoupled cladding modes. We further provide design rules for the LPG and TFBG to optimize and linearize the sensor response. In addition, the temperature cross-sensitivities of this configuration are also investigated for two different types of fiber.  相似文献
