Deuteron-gold (d+Au) collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider provide ideal platforms for testing QCD theories in dense nuclear matter at high energy. In particular, models suggesting strong saturation effects for partons carrying small nucleon momentum fraction (x) predict modifications to jet production at forward rapidity (deuteron-going direction) in d+Au collisions. We report on two-particle azimuthal angle correlations between charged hadrons at forward/backward (deuteron/gold going direction) rapidity and charged hadrons at midrapidity in d+Au and p+p collisions at square root of sNN=200 GeV. Jet structures observed in the correlations are quantified in terms of the conditional yield and angular width of away-side partners. The kinematic region studied here samples partons in the gold nucleus with x~0.1 to ~0.01. Within this range, we find no x dependence of the jet structure in d+Au collisions.  相似文献

Recent PHOBOS measurements of the excitation function for the pseudo-rapidity dependence of the elliptic flow in Au + Au collisions at RHIC have posed a significant theoretical challenge. Here we show that these differential measurements, as well as the RHIC measurements on transverse momentum satisfy a universal scaling relation predicted by the Buda-Lund model, based on exact solutions of perfect fluid hydrodynamics. We also show that the recently found transverse kinetic energy scaling of the elliptic flow is a special case of this universal scaling.  相似文献

A three-dimensional correlation function obtained from midrapidity, low p(T), pion pairs in central Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV is studied. The extracted model-independent source function indicates a long range tail in the directions of the pion pair transverse momentum (out) and the beam (long). A proper breakup time tau(0) ~ 9 fm/c and a mean proper emission duration Delta tau ~ 2 fm/c, leading to sizable emission time differences ({|Delta t(LCM)|} approximately 12 fm/c), are required to allow models to be successfully matched to these tails. The model comparisons also suggest an outside-in "burning" of the emission source reminiscent of many hydrodynamical models.  相似文献

The emission of4He and1H has been measured in coincidence with fission for reactions of 469-MeV56Fe+238U. By using a gas-ionization telescope in kinematic coincidence with a position-sensitive avalanche detector, the folding angle between two fission fragments was determined in order to distinguish fusion reactions from fission following smaller-momentum-transfer collisions. In both fusion fission and sequential fission reactions, the4He/1H energy spectra are relatively narrow with relatively flat angular distributions at backward angles and become broader in energy with enhanced cross-sections at forward angles. The extent of forward peaking is significantly greater for peripheral collisions than for central collisions. The light-charged-particle multiplicities are quite similar for4He and1H, being much larger for fusion fission than for sequential fission. Detailed comparisons of the spectral shapes with Monte Carlo simulations of reaction kinematics impose strong constraints on the participation of different emission sources. We find important contributions to the observed4He/1H emission both from accelerated fragments (FE) and from the composite system prior to fission (CE). For4He emission, the multiplicity of CE is much larger for fusion fission than for sequential fission, possibly as a consequence of the higher spins and shorter reaction times associated with deeply inelastic and quasi-elastic processes. For1H emission, a corresponding but somewhat smaller difference is observed for the CE multiplicities. An excess of4He/1H particles, found at forward angles in both fusion and sequential fission processes, cannot be attributed to evaporative emission from any fragments and therefore must originate in pre-thermalization emission.  相似文献

There is now a consensus of opinion that in heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies a strongly interacting state of matter resembling a near-perfect liquid (termed sQGP) is formed. Attention is now being focused on elucidating the properties of this medium e.g. size, shape, collectivity, viscosity, closeness to the critical point etc. In this work we describe the efforts in the soft and hard sectors to quantify these properties. In particular, the study of jet-medium interactions are described via correlation based studies. Details of three particle correlation studies of RHIC data will be discussed. Such studies are important as they provide an avenue for estimates of the viscosity and the sound speed of the medium.  相似文献

J/psi production has been measured in proton-proton collisions at square root of s=200 GeV over a wide rapidity and transverse momentum range by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Distributions of the rapidity and transverse momentum, along with measurements of the mean transverse momentum and total production cross section are presented and compared to available theoretical calculations. The total J/psi cross section is 4.0+/-0.6(stat)+/-0.6(syst)+/-0.4(abs) mu b. The mean transverse momentum is 1.80+/-0.23(stat)+/-0.16(syst) GeV/c.  相似文献

Transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons with p(T)<8 GeV/c and neutral pions with p(T)<10 GeV/c have been measured at midrapidity by the PHENIX experiment at BNL RHIC in d+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV. The measured yields are compared to those in p+p collisions at the same sqrt[s(NN)] scaled up by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon collisions in d+Au. The yield ratio does not show the suppression observed in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Instead, there is a small enhancement in the yield of high momentum particles.  相似文献
