The generalized wave equation and generalized sine-Gordon equations are known to be natural multidimensional differential geometric generalizations of the classical two-dimensional versions. In this paper we associate a system of linear differential equations with these equations and show how the direct and inverse problems can be solved for appropriately decaying data on suitable lines. An initial-boundary-value problem is solved for these equations.  相似文献

The self-dual Yang-Mills equations play a central role in the study of integrable systems. In this paper we develop a formalism for deriving a four dimensional integrable hierarchy of commuting nonlinear flows containing the self-dual Yang-Mills flow as the first member. We show that upon appropriate reduction and suitable choice of gauge group it produces virtually all well known hierarchies of soliton equations in 1+1 and 2+1 dimensions and can be considered as a universal integrable hierarchy. Prototypical examples of reductions to classical soliton equations are presented and related issues such as recursion operators, symmetries, and conservation laws are discussed.  相似文献

Asymptotic Analysis of Pulse Dynamics in Mode-Locked Lasers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Solitons of the power-energy saturation (PES) equation are studied using adiabatic perturbation theory. In the anomalous regime individual soliton pulses are found to be well approximated by solutions of the classical nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with the key parameters of the soliton changing slowly as they evolve. Evolution equations are found for the pulse amplitude(s), velocity(ies), position(s), and phase(s) using integral relations derived from the PES equation. The results from the integral relations are shown to agree with multi-scale perturbation theory. It is shown that the single soliton case exhibits mode-locking behavior for a wide range of parameters, while the higher states form effective bound states. Using the fact that there is weak overlap between tails of interacting solitons, evolution equations are derived for the relative amplitudes, velocities, positions, and phase differences. Comparisons of interacting soliton behavior between the PES equation and the classical NLS equation are also exhibited.  相似文献

The initial value problem associated with the second Painlevé Transcendent is linearized via a matrix, discontinuous, homogeneous Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problem defined on a complicated contour (six rays intersecting at the origin). This problem is mapped through a series of transformations to three different simple Riemann-Hilbert problems, each of which can be solved via a system of two Fredholm integral equations. The connection of these results with the inverse scattering transform in one and two dimensions is also pointed out.  相似文献

Nonlocal reverse space–time equations of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) type were recently introduced. They were shown to be integrable infinite-dimensional dynamical systems, and the inverse scattering transform (IST) for rapidly decaying initial conditions was constructed. Here, we present the IST for the reverse space–time NLS equation with nonzero boundary conditions (NZBCs) at infinity. The NZBC problem is more complicated because the branching structure of the associated linear eigenfunctions is complicated. We analyze two cases, which correspond to two different values of the phase at infinity. We discuss special soliton solutions and find explicit one-soliton and two-soliton solutions. We also consider spatially dependent boundary conditions.  相似文献

We compute and study localized nonlinear modes (solitons) in the semi-infinite gap of the focusing two-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with various irregular lattice-type potentials. The potentials are characterized by large variations from periodicity, such as vacancy defects, edge dislocations, and a quasicrystal structure. We use a spectral fixed-point computational scheme to obtain the solitons. The eigenvalue dependence of the soliton power indicates parameter regions of self-focusing instability; we compare these results with direct numerical simulations of the NLS equation. We show that in the general case, solitons on local lattice maximums collapse. Furthermore, we show that the Nth-order quasicrystal solitons approach Bessel solitons in the large-N limit.  相似文献
