ABSTRACT

The polluting effects of Iponri-Alaka Canal in Surulere area of Lagos State on the environment have been studied using six sampling points. The study aimed at assessing the effects of exposure to pollutants on humans and other life forms. The quality of air, wastewater and sediments was assessed between March and August 2017. The concentrations of SO2 and H2S were measured using MSA Altair 5X. Temperature, pH and DO were measured in-situ using Thermometer, pH meter and Winkler method, respectively. TSS, TDS, TS, TA, TH, BOD, chloride Cl?, PO43-, SO42- and NO3? were determined using appropriate standard methods in the laboratory. EC and some heavy metals (Cr, Pb, Mn, Cd and Ni) concentrations were determined using conductivity meter and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, respectively. The results showed that pH, TS, DO and TH were well within the WHO and FEPA maximum limits. EC, SO42- and TDS were observed to be higher than guideline values only at one sampling point. The TSS, BOD, TA, NO3? and PO43- were higher than WHO and FEPA guideline limits at all sampling points. Cr was seen to be within, while Pb and Mn were higher than WHO and FEPA guideline values. Cd was higher than guideline values only at two sampling points. Ni was below detection concentration at all the sampling points.

The concentration of SO2 was seen to be higher than WHO and NESREA guideline values at two sampling points, while H2S concentration was higher than WHO limit at all the six sampling points.  相似文献

Nano tetrapod based on conducting polythiophene (PTh) and tin-phosphate (SnP) were synthesized by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization. The morphology of the resulting polythiophene tinphosphate composite was characterized by elemental analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The physico-chemical characterization carried out on the composite showed that SnP was modified by conducting PTh with an enhancement of various properties. On the basis of highest distribution coefficient values for Hg(II), the composite was also used for the preparation of Hg(II) selective membrane electrode. The electrode showed working concentration range of 1 × 10?1 to 1 × 10?7 with Nernstian slope of 29.29 mV per decade change in concentration and the electrode may be used for wide working pH range of 4–8 having quick response time about 23 s. The life of electrode is 4 months without any notable drift in potential.  相似文献

An attempt has been made to design double‐stranded ladder‐like coordination polymers (CPs) of hemidirected PbII. Four CPs, [Pb(μ‐bpe)(O2C‐C6H5)2] ? 2H2O ( 1 ), [Pb2(μ‐bpe)2(μ‐O2C‐C6H5)2(O2C‐C6H5)2] ( 2 ), [Pb2(μ‐bpe)2(μ‐O2C‐p‐Tol)2(O2C‐p‐Tol)2] ? 1.5 H2O ( 3 ) and [Pb2(μ‐bpe)2(μ‐O2C‐m‐Tol)2(O2C‐m‐Tol)2] ( 4 ) (bpe=1,2‐bis(4′‐pyridyl)ethylene), have been synthesised and investigated for their solid‐state photoreactivity. CPs 2 – 4 , having a parallel orientation of bpe molecules in their ladder structures and being bridged by carboxylates, were found to be photoreactive, whereas CP 1 is a linear one‐dimensional (1D) CP with guest water molecules aggregating to form a hydrogen‐bonded 1D structure. The linear strands of 1 were found to pair up upon eliminating lattice water molecules by heating, which led to the solid‐state structural transformation of photostable linear 1D CP 1 into photoreactive ladder CP 2 . In the construction of the double‐stranded ladder‐like structures, the parallel alignment of C?C bonds in 2 – 4 is dictated by the chelating and μ2‐η21 bridging modes of the benzoate and toluate ligands. The role of solvents in the formation of such double‐stranded ladder‐like structures has also been investigated. A single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal transformation occurred when 4 was irradiated under UV light to form [Pb2(rctt‐tpcb)(μ‐O2C‐m‐Tol)2(O2C‐m‐Tol)2] ( 5 ).  相似文献

The first report of natural l-vasicine as tridentate chiral ligand for the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to a variety of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes is described. The ligand generates R-isomer of the secondary alcohols upto 98% ee. The quinazoline structure possibly imparts rigidity to the ligand and hence, consistently high enantioselectivity. The importance of the quinazoline ring was also supported by the reaction with other related ligands, partially lacking the structural features, thus resulting in poor enantioselectivity.  相似文献

Diamond‐like carbon (DLC) coatings are getting new trends for cutting tool applications. In this research work, the DLC coatings were deposited on 15 × 15 × 5‐mm tungsten carbide cobalt substrates with variation of bias voltage from 0 to 500 V. The DLC films of 400 nm were deposited using filter cathode vacuum arc system, and 100‐nm chromium interlayer was deposited by sputtering. The optimized conditions for plasma pretreatment at different argon flow rates and deposition rates with bias variation were found. The effect of bias voltage on microstructure, tribology, adhesion, and mechanical properties were evaluated. The characterization techniques employed were field emission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, wear test, SEM, scratch test, and nano‐indentation. The effect of substrate pretreatment on film adhesion was also evaluated. It was observed that etching rate increased with the increase in Ar flow rate while DLC deposition and sputtering rates decreased with increase in the bias voltage. The characterization suggests the DLC coatings deposited at 0 V bias as optimum condition because of showing the best results among all other conditions. In the present paper, the micellization of an amphiphilic drug, promazine hydrochloride, and gemini surfactants (16-s-16) with s = 4–6 and the monomeric hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) counterparts has been examined conductometrically in the pure and mixed states in aqueous solutions at different compositions and temperatures (298.15–308.15 K). Dicationic gemini surfactants provide much better environment for the micellization behavior than the corresponding monocationic counterpart CTAB. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) values are lower than the cmc for ideal mixing, cmc id, suggesting attractive interactions between the two components in mixed micelles. The micellar mole fractions of surfactants, evaluated by different models, show greater contributions of surfactants in mixed micelles and increase with increasing concentrations of these surfactants. The negative values of β suggest synergism in the mixtures, which is highly beneficial as it reduces the total amount of surfactants required in a particular application, leading to reductions of cost and environmental impact. Activity coefficients (f 1 and f 2) are always less than unity showing nonideality in the systems. The data have been also used for evaluation of thermodynamic parameters.  相似文献

Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) are produced by marine and freshwater microalgae and accumulate in shellfish including mussels, oysters, and scallops, causing possible fatalities when inadvertently consumed. Monitoring of PST content of shellfish is therefore important for food safety, with currently approved methods based on HPLC, using pre‐ or postcolumn oxidation for fluorescence detection (HPLC‐FLD). CE is an attractive alternative for screening and detection of PSTs as it is compatible with miniaturization and could be implemented in portable instrumentation for on‐site monitoring. In this study, CE methods were developed for C4D, FLD, UV absorption detection, and MS—making this first report of C4D and FLD for PSTs detection. Because most oxidized toxins are neutral, MEKC was used in combination with FLD. The developed CZE‐UV and CZE‐C4D methods provide better resolution, selectivity, and separation efficiency compared to CZE‐MS and MEKC‐FLD. The sensitivity of the CZE‐C4D and MEKC‐FLD methods was superior to UV and MS, with LOD values ranging from 140 to 715 ng/mL for CZE‐C4D and 60.9 to 104 ng/mL for MEKC‐FLD. With the regulatory limit for shellfish samples of 800 ng/mL, the CZE‐C4D and MEKC‐FLD methods were evaluated for the screening and detection of PSTs in shellfish samples. While the CZE‐C4D method suffered from significant interferences from the shellfish matrix, MEKC‐FLD was successfully used for PST screening of a periodate‐oxidized mussel sample, with results confirmed by HPLC‐FLD. This confirms the potential of MEKC‐FLD for screening of PSTs in shellfish samples.  相似文献

In this Letter we report a rapid and facile access to C2-substituted imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine analogues utilizing palladium mediated Buchwald–Hartwig cross-coupling reactions. The use of enolizable heterocycles as cross-coupling partners resulted in a wide range of imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine analogues which are prone to have medicinal relevance. Xantphos and Pd(OAc)2 were found to be more effective for the coupling of 2-halo imidazo[4,5-b]pyridines with pyridone nucleophiles. A regioselective approach for the synthesis of 2-substituted 3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine and 1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine is also reported.  相似文献

The promiscuous aldo–ketoreductase (AKR) enzyme is used as a sustainable biocatalyst for the first time to catalyze asymmetric aldol reactions in aqueous medium. The reactions between aromatic aldehydes and cyclic/acyclic ketones give the corresponding products in moderate yields and enantioselectivities in the presence of water. The influence of solvents, the mole ratio of substrates, and enzyme concentration are investigated. The mechanism of the AKR1A1-catalyzed aldol reaction is also discussed.  相似文献
