Effects of acid treatments on Moroccan Tarfaya oil shale and pyrolysis of oil shale and their kerogen

In this study, the kerogen of oil shale from Moroccan Tarfaya deposits was isolated and the changes in the initial organic matter during the removal of the mineral matrix were examined. Chloroform extraction of the oil shale increases the intensity of the peaks in the X-ray diffractograms. Infrared spectra and X-ray diffractograms reveal the presence of mineral, calcite, quartz, kaolinite, and pyrite in the mineral matrix of the oil shale. Hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids dissolution do not alter the organic matter. The nonisothermal weight loss measurements indicate that thermal decomposition of the isolated kerogen can be described by firstorder reaction. A single kinetic expression is valid over the temperature range of kerogen pyrolysis between 433K and 873K. Furthermore, the results indicate that the removal of mineral matter causes a decrease in the activation energies of the pyrolysis reactions of oil shale.     

Three-component Ugi-Smiles couplings of cyclic imines

Cyclic imines react with isocyanides and electron-deficient phenols to afford N-aryl piperidines and pyrrolidines in good yields (Ugi-Smiles couplings of cyclic imines). The starting imines were formed by oxidation with N-chlorosuccinimide followed by a base-induced dehydrochlorination.     

Transformations of diphenylphosphinothioic acid tertiary amides mediated by directed ortho metallation

ortho-Lithiation of N,N-diisopropyl-P,P-diphenylphosphinothioic amide using n-BuLi in the presence of TMEDA in diethyl ether followed by electrophilic trapping is described as an efficient method for the synthesis of ortho-functionalised derivatives in high yields. The structural modification of the phosphinothioic amide includes C-X (X = P, S, Si, Sn, I) and C-C bond forming reactions with a large variety of electrophiles. Additional applications based on functional group transformations are also reported. They include imine formation, desulfurization and Suzuki cross-coupling reactions on selected compounds.

Synthesis of New 1,3,4‐Oxadiazol,Thiadiazole, 1,2,4‐Triazole,and Arylidene Hydrazide Derivatives of 4‐Oxo‐1,4‐dihydroquinoline with Antimicrobial Evaluation

A series of substituted 1,3,4‐oxadiazole, 1,2,4‐triazole, and 1,3,4‐thiadiazole derivatives of the substituted 3‐carboethoxy‐1,4‐dihydro‐4‐oxoquinoline have been synthesized through the reaction of the key intermediate thiosemicarbazide derivatives with different reagents. N′‐Arylidene‐4‐oxo‐1,4‐dihydroquinoline‐3‐carbohydrazides were also synthesized through the condensation reaction of the corresponding hydrazides with the appropriate aldehydes. Antimicrobial activity of some of the synthesized compounds was evaluated.     

The use of Omega Chrome Black Blue G in chelatometric titrations

Summary The reactions of Omega Chrome Black Blue G with a large number of cations is studied. This study has shown in many cases high sensitivity limits of detection of metals. It also showed that this dye can be used as an indicator for EDTA titrations of zinc, cadmium, manganese and lead. It is also a suitable indicator for the step wise titration of calcium and magnesium in blood serum and water.     

Ozonization: An Efficient Method for the Oxidation of Halophosphines

Abstract

The ozonization of various halophosphines 1a-j leads with quantitative yields to the corresponding phosphine oxides 2a-j.

Ozonization is a convenient method of oxidation, in particular of compounds with bulky ligands (1c, 1d, 1e).     

Gamma radiation curing of nitrile rubber/high density polyethylene blends

Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) was mixed with high density polyethylene (HDPE) thermoplastics with different ratio namely (100/20), (100/40), (100/60) and (100/80). The obtained blends were subjected to gamma irradiation with varying dose from 50 to 250 kGy. The induced crosslinking and hence the improvement in the different properties were followed up as a function of irradiation dose. Mechanical properties as tensile strength, tensile modulus at 50 % elongation, elongation at break percent, permanent set and hardness were carried out as a function of irradiation dose and blend ratio. Moreover, physical properties namely, gel fraction % and swelling number were found to improve with the increase of irradiation dose up to 250 kGy and with the increase of the content of HDPE in blend. Moreover, presence of NBR enhances the shrinking properties of the obtained blend which can be used as a good heat shrinkable material.
