The exchange of Cs(+) into H(1.22)K(0.84)ZrSi(3)O(9)·2.16H(2)O (umbite-(HK)) was followed in situ using time-resolved X-ray diffraction at the National Synchrotron Light Source. The umbite framework (space group P2(1)/c with cell dimensions of a = 7.2814(3) ?, b = 10.4201(4) ?, c = 13.4529(7) ?, and β = 90.53(1)°) consists of wollastonite-like silicate chains linked by isolated zirconia octahedra. Within umbite-(HK) there are two unique ion exchange sites in the tunnels running parallel to the a-axis. Exchange Site 1 is marked by 8 member-ring (MR) windows in the bc-plane and contains K(+) cations. Exchange Site 2 is marked by a larger 8-MR channel parallel to [100], and contains H(2)O molecules. The occupancy of the Cs(+) cations through these channels was modeled by Rietveld structure refinements of the diffraction data and demonstrated that there is a two-step exchange process. The incoming Cs(+) ions populated the larger 8-MR channel (Exchange Site 2) first and then migrated into the smaller 8-MR channel. During the exchange process a structural change occurs, transforming the exchanger from monoclinic P2(1)/c to orthorhombic P2(1)2(1)2(1). This structural change occurs when Cs(+) occupancy in the small cavity becomes greater than 0.50. The final in situ ion exchange diffraction pattern was refined to yield umbite-(CsK) with the molecular formula H(0.18)K(0.45)Cs(1.37)ZrSi(3)O(9)·0.98H(2)O and possessing an orthorhombic unit cell with dimensions a = 10.6668(8) ?, b = 13.5821(11) ?, c = 7.3946(6) ?. Solid state (133)Cs MAS NMR showed there is only a slight difference between the two cavities electronically. Valence bond sums for the completely occupied Exchange Site 1 demonstrate that Cs-O bonds of up to 3.8 ? contribute to the coordination of the Cs(+) cation. 相似文献

Merrifield resin-supported N3P(MeNCH2CH2)3N shows excellent activity in the transesterification of higher esters such as glyceryl tribenzoate to methyl esters. The catalyst was successfully cycled 20 times (albeit with an increase in reaction time) without compromising yield up to the 20th cycle. Synchrotron‐based energy resolved XPS was used to characterize the structure of IrO2? RuO2‐coated Sb2O5? SnO2 nanoparticles. Samples were heat treated at 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 °C after chloride Ir and Ru precursors were added to Sb2O5? SnO2. Photoelectron kinetic energies of 100, 350 and 1400 eV were employed to obtain an indication of the depth of elemental distributions and chemical shifts. It was shown that the electrocatalyst consists of a core of Sb2O5? SnO2 enriched with Sb2O5 towards the surface, with a shell of IrO2? RuO2 deposited on this core, and an outer layer of Sb2O5? SnO2 over this shell. No significant chemical interaction occurs between IrO2? RuO2 and Sb2O5? SnO2. The energy resolved XPS depth profile technique is effective for studying core‐shell materials. Under eons of evolutionary and environmental pressure, biological systems have developed strong and lightweight peptide-based polymeric materials by using the 20 naturally occurring amino acids as principal monomeric units. These materials outperform their man-made counterparts in the following ways: 1) multifunctionality/tunability, 2) adaptability/stimuli-responsiveness, 3) synthesis and processing under ambient and aqueous conditions, and 4) recyclability and biodegradability. The universal design strategy that affords these advanced properties involves "bottom-up" synthesis and modular, hierarchical organization both within and across multiple length-scales. The field of "biomimicry"-elucidating and co-opting nature's basic material design principles and molecular building blocks-is rapidly evolving. Equilibrium melting temperatures for structure II THF hydrate and argon/xenon (Ar/Xe) binary hydrate have been calculated using molecular dynamics using two melting techniques, namely the Z method [Belonoshko et al., Phys. Rev. B, 2006, 73, 012201] (applied for the first time to complex molecular solids) and direct phase coexistence simulations. The two methods give results in moderate agreement: calculations with the Z method give T(fus) to be 250.7 K (0.77 katm) for THF and 244.3 K (1.86 katm) for Ar/Xe hydrate respectively; the corresponding direct phase coexistence calculations give T(fus) in the range 235-240 K (0.77 katm) for THF and 240-252.5 K (1.86 katm) for Ar/Xe hydrate. The Z method was found to define the key thermodynamic states with high precision, although required long simulation times with these multicomponent molecular systems to ensure the complete melting required by the method. In contrast, the direct phase coexistence method did bracket the equilibrium temperature with little difficulty, but small thermodynamic driving forces close to phase equilibrium generated long-lived fluctuations, that obscured the precise value of phase coexistence conditions within the bracketed range. 相似文献

Blood samples stored as dried blood spots (DBSs) are emerging as a useful sampling and storage vehicle for a wide range of applications. Unfortunately, the surging popularity of DBS samples has not yet been accompanied by an improvement in automated techniques for extraction and analysis. As a first step towards overcoming this challenge, we have developed a prototype microfluidic system for quantification of amino acids in dried blood spots, in which analytes are extracted, mixed with internal standards, derivatized, and reconstituted for analysis by (off-line and in-line) tandem mass spectrometry. The new method is fast, robust, precise, and most importantly, compatible with automation. We propose that the new method can potentially contribute to a new generation of analytical techniques for quantifying analytes in DBS samples for a wide range of applications. 相似文献
