Visible Luminescence of SiGe/Si Quantum Wells Under an External Anisotropic Deformation

We realize for the first time an experimental investigation of the IR and visible luminescence of SiGe/Si heterostructures with quantum well subjected to an external anisotropic deformation. We show that tensile strain along the [100] direction enhances the absolute and relative intensities of visible luminescence by a factor of 7/3 at a temperature of 5 K. This effect is absent for a tensile strain along the [110] direction. We explain the phenomenon observed in view of the model of single-photon biexciton recombination for the system in which the bottom of the conduction band is formed by only two opposite electronic valleys.

Application of Nutations to Studying the Exchange Processes by the Method of Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Spectroscopy

A method of direct determining the discontinuous rotational reorientation angles from NQR exchange spectra based on recording of two-dimensional nutations of magnetization after the mixing period is suggested. The possible modification of the Jeener pulse sequence with independently varying duration of pulses for obtaining a 2D exchange nutation spectrum is described. Shapes of singularities in the 2D nutation spectrum of CCl₂- and CCl₃-group reorientations, which depend on the angle _S between C–Cl bonds and on the asymmetry parameter for nonequivalent positions of nuclei participating in the exchange are examined. The 2D exchange NQR nutation spectra of ³⁵Cl in powders prepared from C₂Cl₄ and C₂Cl₆ molecular crystals are modeled. The advantages and capabilities of the method are discussed.     

Conductivity of C60 fullerene crystals under dynamic compression up to 200 kbar

The conductivity σ of C₆₀ fullerene crystals is measured under quasi-isentropic loading by a spread shock wave to a pressure of 200 kbar at the initial temperatures 293 and 77 K. A sharp increase in σ by seven to eight orders of magnitude is detected: from 10^?6?10^?7 Ω^?1 cm^?1 at normal conditions to 5 Ω^?1 cm^?1 under pressure from 100 to 200 kbar. The conductivity of samples under pressure decreases with decreasing temperature, which is characteristic of semiconductors. On pressure release, σ regains its initial value.
