On the weakened Siegel’s conjecture

In the paper, we prove that two definitions of E-functions present in mathematics are equivalent if E-functions satisfy second-order linear differential equations. For this set of functions, a weakened variant of the well-known Siegel conjecture about representability of any E-function by a polynomial of hypergeometric functions is also proved. __________ Translated from Fundamentalnaya i Prikladnaya Matematika, Vol. 11, No. 6, pp. 33–39, 2005.     

Moving and oscillating transversely one-dimensional laser solitons

Transversely one-dimensional moving and oscillating solitons in a wide-aperture laser with saturable absorber with fast (inertialess) nonlinearity are found by numerical simulation. The regions of existence of such solitons and of their complexes are presented.     

Regularities of the interaction of hydrogen jets during combustion in a supersonic high-temperature flow

The efficiency of combustion in a supersonic high-temperature flow at spread and local hydrogen feed is considered. Similarities and distinctions of combustion in open and confined space were examined with consideration given to the effect of gasdynamic structures typical of supersonic air jets.     

Photothermal techniques applied to the determination of the water vapor diffusion coefficient and thermal diffusivity of edible films.

Water vapor diffusion coefficient (WVDC) and thermal diffusivity (alpha) were determined in gelatin-starch films through photothermal techniques. The effect of different variables in the elaboration of these films, such as starch and glycerol concentrations and pH, were evaluated through the response surface methodology. The results indicated that an increase in the glycerol concentration and pH favored the WVDC of the films. On the other hand, alpha was influenced principally by the starch content and pH of the film-forming solution. The minimum alpha value was 4.5 x 10(-4) cm2/s, which is compared with alpha values reported for commercial synthetic polymers.     

Entanglement of qutrits

For two types of qutrits specified by the dynamical symmetry SU(3) and SU(2), we consider the difference in entanglement caused by the lack of quantum observables in the latter case. In particular, we show that the SU(2) qutrits can have specific separable entanglement caused by quantum correlations of intrinsic degrees of freedom in a single party without interparty correlations.     

Areal objects and the problem of the λ term in the theory of gravitation

The following areal objects are considered: an ether thread contracting two material points and a multidimensional ether fibre in the pseudo-Euclidean world of events. An ether space-time model with an arbitrarily determined Riemannian metric is constructed and the problem of the λ term in Einstein equations is discussed in this regard.     

Asymptotic analysis of a large closed queueing network with discriminatory processor sharing

In this paper the steady-state behavior of a closed queueing network with multiple classes and large populations is investigated. One of the two nodes of the network simply introduces random delays and the discipline in the other node is discriminatory processor sharing. The network is not product-form, so not even the steady-state behavior is known. We assume that the usage is moderately heavy, and obtain two-term asymptotic approximations to the mean number of jobs, and the mean sojourn time, of each class of jobs in the processor node. We also obtain the leading term in the asymptotic approximation to the joint distribution of the number of jobs in the processor node, which is a zero-mean multivariate Gaussian distribution around a line through the origin.     

Integration of differential forms on manifolds with locally-finite variations. II

In part I of the paper, we have defined n-dimensional C⁰-manifolds in ℝⁿ(m ≥ n) with locally-finite n-dimensional variations (a generalization of locally-rectifiable curves to dimensionn > 1) and integration of measurable differential n-forms over such manifolds. The main result of part II states that an n-dimensional manifold that is C¹-embedded into ℝ^m has locally-finite variations and the integral of a measurable differential n-form defined in part I can be calculated by the well-known formula. The exponential characteristic of the Volterra integral operator with kernel depending on 2<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis> variables

Exponential growth is estimated for integral operators with continuous periodic kernels of exponential type. The result is applied to the boundary-value problem for a general hyperbolic differential equation having periodic coefficients with Goursat boundary conditions.
