We have studied the growth mode and morphology of Ni clusters on a TiO2(1 1 0) surface with a wide terrace using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at a low coverage (less than 3 atoms nm−2). The Ni clusters are formed on the terrace at the low coverage of 0.2 atoms nm−2. Their average dimensions are constant in three directions up to 1 atoms nm−2. The Ni clusters have an oval shape with average sizes of 1.8 nm (along [0 0 1]) × 1.4 nm (along (in the [1 1 0] directions). Above the coverage of 1.0 atoms nm−2, an increase in the cluster height occurs, retaining an almost constant lateral size. It is proposed that the interaction of the Ni cluster and the support surface regulates the Ni cluster size.  相似文献

The structure of Ge(105)-(1 x 2) grown on Si(105) is examined by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and first-principles calculations. The morphology evolution with an increasing amount of Ge deposited documents the existence of a tensile surface strain in Si(105) and its relaxation with increasing coverage of Ge. A detailed analysis of high-resolution STM images and first-principles calculations produce a new stable model for the Ge(105)-(1 x 2) structure formed on the Si(105) surface that includes the existence of surface strain. It corrects the model developed from early observations of the facets of "hut" clusters grown on Si(001).  相似文献

The mass of the tau lepton has been measured in the decay mode tau-->3pinutau using a pseudomass technique. The result obtained from 414 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector is Mtau=[1776.61+/-0.13(stat)+/-0.35(sys)] MeV/c2. The upper limit on the relative mass difference between positive and negative tau leptons is |Mtau+-Mtau-|/Mtau<2.8 x 10-4 at 90% confidence level.  相似文献

Vacancy-mediated lateral manipulations of intrinsic adatoms of the Si(111)-(7x7) surface at room temperature are reported. The topographic signal during the manipulation combined with force spectroscopy measurements reveals that these manipulations can be ascribed to the so-called pulling mode, and that the Si adatoms were manipulated in the attractive tip-surface interaction regime at the relatively low short-range force value associated to the manipulation set point. First-principles calculations reveal that the presence of the tip induces structural relaxations that weaken the adatom surface bonds and manifests in a considerable local reduction of the natural diffusion barriers to adjacent adsorption positions. Close to the short-range forces measured in the experiments, these barriers are lowered near the limit that enables a thermally activated hopping at room temperature.  相似文献

Here we show, analytically and numerically, that in a TiO(2) double-groove grating with two different groove widths per period attached on the SiO(2) substrate, the normally incident light couples to the +1st-order transmission with 96.9% efficiency and with a 50° diffraction angle that is larger than the SiO(2)-air interface critical angle. Modal analysis reveals that three propagating modes for the +1st diffraction order reach the grating back end in phase, while the corresponding propagating modes for the -1st and zeroth orders are added destructively at the grating end. Four optical devices based on this grating characteristic are numerically demonstrated.  相似文献

The radical polymerizability of vinylpyridines in the presence of cobaltous chloride was studied in DMF solution, and the results were correlated with the spectroscopic data obtained for methanol solution. In general, the behavior of vinylpyridine complexed with cobaltous chloride is qualitatively the same as that of zinc complexes reported previously. The rates of polymerization were enhanced by the addition of cobaltous chloride when 4-vinylpyridine(4-VP) or 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine(MVP) was the monomer, whereas the polymerization of 2-vinylpyridine(2-VP) was retarded by cobaltous chloride. The monomer reactivity of all the vinylpyridines was also enhanced by complex formation as studied by copolymerization with styrene. The enhancement of reactivity of 4-VP complexed with cobaltous chloride is somewhat smaller than that of the corresponding zinc complex.  相似文献
