Phonation into a glass tube is a voice training and therapy method that leads to beneficial effects in voice production. It has not been known, however, what changes occur in the vocal tract during and after the phonation into a tube. This pilot study examined the vocal tract shape in a female subject before, during, and after phonation into a tube using computer tomography (CT). Three-dimensional finite-element models (FEMs) of the vocal tract were derived from the CT images and used to study changes in vocal tract input impedance. When phonating on vowel [a:] the data showed tightened velopharyngeal closure and enlarged cross-sectional areas of the oropharyngeal and oral cavities during and after the tube-phonation. FEM calculations revealed an increased input inertance of the vocal tract and an increased acoustic energy radiated out of the vocal tract after the tube-phonation. The results indicate that the phonation into a tube causes changes in the vocal tract which remain also when the tube is removed. These effects may help improving voice production in patients and voice professionals. 相似文献

The paper deals with the experimental study of conditions under which the second harmonic of a strong electromagnetic wave generating a spatially inhomogeneous plasma originates and exists. The second harmonic was detected by means of a h.f. probe inside the plasma and by a horn antenna outside the plasma. It was found that the beginning of generation of a strong second harmonic signal inside the plasma coincides with the overcoming of an evanescent layer and the free passage of the right-hand circularly polarized wave (RHCP wave) into an inhomogeneous plasma. Dependences of the second harmonic amplitude on the static magnetic field and the gas pressure are given.The authors wish to thank Dr. S. S. Intact human blood plasma lipids of different composition were analyzed by gas chromatography and thin-layer chromatography with flame ionization detection. The reproducibility of the results obtained by gas and thin-layer chromatography was compared. The main advantages and disadvantages of both methods for lipid analysis are discussed. A method for separation and purification of plant hormones auxin and abscisic acid based on mixed mode reversed-phase anion-exchange solid phase extraction and two-dimensional HPLC was developed. Two-dimensional HPLC in "heart cutting" mode was very efficient in the purification of these two hormones.
