Influence of solute mobility on dislocation motion I. Basic model

Dislocation motion in the real lattice of alloys is highly complex. In a certain temperature range the dynamic strain ageing phenomena have been reported. In this paper the influence of mobile solute atoms (as obstacles) on the motion of dislocation is analysed. Both processes are assumed to be thermally activated. A new model based on this assumption is proposed. The dislocation velocity and the friction stress (due to solute-dislocation interactions) are calculated. A change in the friction stress caused by solute mobility is discussed.     

Asymptotic analysis of elastic curved rods

We consider a sequence of curved rods which consist of isotropic material and which are clamped on the lower base or on both bases. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the stress tensor and displacement under the assumptions of linearized elasticity when the cross‐sectional diameter of the rods tends to zero and the body force is given in the particular form. The analysis covers the case of a non‐smooth limit line of centroids. We show how the body force and the choice of the approximating curved rods can affect the strong convergence and the limit form of the stress tensor for the curved rods clamped on both bases. ON DIRECT METHOD OF SOLUTION FOR A CLASS OF SINGULAR INTEGRAL EQUATIONS

In this article, by introducing characteristic singular integral operator and associate singular integral equations (SIEs), the authors discuss the direct method of solution for a class of singular integral equations with certain analytic inputs. They obtain both the conditions of solvability and the solutions in closed form. It is noteworthy that the method is different from the classical one that is due to Lu.     

Dehydration and dehydroxylation of reduced charge montmorillonite

Reduced charge montmorillonites (RCM) were prepared by the thermal treatment of lithiumsaturated montmorillonite. Samples prepared by mild thermal treatment with lithium contained more water sorbed than the original montmorrilonite. When RCMs were prepared, part of the lithium cations reacted with hydroxyl groups in the octahedral sheet and released protons, which reacted with the structure. Acid treatment probably enhanced the surface area. which was reflected in the amount of water sorbed. Deprotonation of hydroxyl groups was proved by the measurements of the ignition loss. The heating of lithium saturated montmorillonite at higher temperatures brough about the collapse of the interlayers and a decrease in the amount of water sorbed.     

Neocompact Sets and the Fixed Point Property

We use a newly introduced concept of neocompactness to study problems from metric fixed point theory. In particular, we give a sufficient condition for a superreflexive Banach space X to have the fixed point property and obtain shorter proofs of some well-known results in that theory.     

Operator Matrix Forms of Positive Operators

If a 3-tuple (A:H1→H1,B:H2→H1,C:H2→H2）of operators on Hibert spaces is given,we proved that the operator ～↑A:=(↑A ↓B^*↑B ↓C) on H=H1 H2 is ≥0 is and only if A≥0,R(B)∪→R（A^1/2) and C≥B^* A^ b,where A^ is the generalized inverse of A.In general,A^ is a closed operator,but since R(B)∪→R(A^1/2,B^* A^ B is bounded yet.     

Copper-D-penicillamine complex as potential contrast agent for MRI.

In vitro and in vivo proton T1 data are reported that demonstrate that the paramagnetic copper-D-penicillamine complex can be applied as a potential contrast agent to magnetic resonance imaging.     

Specific carbon-13 labelling of leucine residues in human growth hormone.

Biosynthetic human growth hormone specifically 13C-labelled in the carbonyl positions of all 26 leucine residues has been obtained by recombinant DNA techniques using 13C-labelled leucine and an E. coli strain that requires leucine. It is shown that, on the whole, the labelling is specific with no significant mislabelling as would have been the case had the 13C-labelled leucine been metabolized.     

On the numerical solution of axisymmetric domain optimization problems by dual finite element method

Shape optimization of an axisymmetric three-dimensional domain with an elliptic boundary value state problem is solved. Since the cost functional is given in terms of the cogradient of the solution, a dual finite element method based on the minimum of complementary energy principle is used. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
