Synthesis and Characterization of Lanthanide Metal Ion Complexes of New Polydentate Hydrazone Schiff Base Ligand

The new homodinuclear complexes of the general formula [Ln₂L₃(NO₃)₃] (where HL is newly synthesized 2-((2-(benzoxazol-2-yl)-2-methylhydrazono)methyl)phenol and Ln = Sm³⁺ (1), Eu³⁺ (2), Tb³⁺ (3a, 3b), Dy³⁺ (4), Ho³⁺ (5), Er³⁺ (6), Tm³⁺ (7), Yb³⁺ (8)), have been synthesized from the lanthanide(III) nitrates with the polydentate hydrazone Schiff base ligand. The flexibility of this unsymmetrical Schiff base ligand containing N₂O binding moiety, attractive for lanthanide metal ions, allowed for a self-assembly of these complexes. The compounds were characterized by spectroscopic data (ESI-MS, IR, UV/Vis, luminescence) and by the X-ray structure determination of the single crystals, all of which appeared to be different solvents. The analytical data suggested 2:3 metal:ligand stoichiometry in these complexes, and this was further confirmed by the structural results. The metal cations are nine-coordinated, by nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms. The complexes are two-centered, with three oxygen atoms in bridging positions. There are two types of structures, differing by the sources of terminal (non-bridging) coordination centers (group A: two ligands, one nitro anion/one ligand, two nitro anions, group B: three ligands, three anions).     

Anionic and coordination polymerization of 3-butyrolactone

Aluminoxane catalysts and anionic initiators can polymerize 3-butyrolactone, 3-BL, to high molecular weight stereoregular polymers. With the racemic monomer, [R,S]-3-BL, anionic polymerization with alkali metal complexes can form syndiotactic polymers and aluminoxane catalysts can form either highly isotactic, syndiotactic, or atactic poly-3-butyrolactone, P-3-BL, depending on the composition and method of preparation of the aluminoxane and the conditions of polymerization.     

Highly efficient synthesis of spirocyclic (1R)-camphor-derived triazolium salts: application in the catalytic asymmetric benzoin condensation

New (1R)-camphor-derived triazolium salts, incorporating a spirocyclic system, are described. Benzoin condensation of aromatic aldehydes, mediated by these salts affords α-hydroxyketones in good yields and moderate enantiomeric excesses.     

A novel method for the synthesis of aryl trihalomethyl sulfones and their derivatization: the search for new sulfone fungicides

A novel method for the preparation of bioactive aryl trihalomethyl sulfones is reported. An iodination reaction with iodine bromide is applied for the synthesis of difluoroiodomethyl aryl sulfones. A series of difluoroiodomethylsulfonyl group bearing derivatives is afforded, including nitroanilines and benzimidazoles. Biological studies show high fungicidal activity for a number of the synthesized sulfones.     

Solvent Effects on the Electronic Absorption Spectra of Cr(III) Complexes

An influence of the protic solvents on the electronic absorption spectra of chromium (III) complexes was investigated. The high correlation between dielectric constant of solvents and the crystal field parameter Dq as well as between refractive index and oscillator strength of d-d bands were observed. The significance of the ligand - second sphere interactions for studying of solvent effect on complex spectra was stated.
