Vibrational properties of crystals with TlSe type structure

The lattice vibration spectra of TlS and TllnSe₂ crystals were investigated by infrared reflectivity in the wavenumber range from 20 to 5000 cm^?1. The frequencies of K = 0 phonons were determined by Kramers-Kronig analysis of the spectra. All five infrared active lattice vibrations predicted by the group theoretical analysis were identified. The normal coordinates of vibrations for five infrared active phonons were determined. In the approximation which does not take into consideration long range Coulomb interaction values of the force constant and effective changes are obtained for TlSe, TlS and TllnSe₂ crystals.     

Oxidation of Dimethyl Sulfide in Air Using Electron-Beam Irradiation,and Enhancement of its Oxidation Via an MnO<Subscript>2</Subscript> Catalyst

The decomposition of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) at initial concentrations of 4.5–18.0 ppmv in air was studied under electron-beam (EB) irradiation. Doses to decompose 90% of input DMS were 2.5 kGy for 4.5 ppmv, 3.4 kGy for 10.6 ppmv, and 3.9 kGy for 18.0 ppmv. HCOOH, (CH₃)₂SO, and trace CH₃OH and (CH₃)₂SO₂ were produced as irradiation products in addition to CO₂ and CO. Application of an O₃ decomposition catalyst to an irradiated sample gas led to an enhancement in the oxidation of DMS and its products into CO₂ and the decomposition of O₃. For 10.6 ppmv DMS/air, the mineralization ratio increased from 41% via only EB irradiation to 100% via the combination treatment at 6.3 kGy. The yield of CO₂ to CO_x increased from 5.3 to 87.6% by combination with catalytic oxidation. This combination treatment enables the irradiation energy used to deodorize gas streams containing DMS to be reduced.     

Diffraction of love waves by two staggered perfectly weak half-planes

Summary Love wave travelling in a layer of uniform thickness overlying a half-space is assumed to be incident on two parallel but staggered perfectly weak half-planes lying in the upper layer. The diffracted field is calculated using the modified Wiener-Hopf technique and contour integration method. The diffracted waves satisfy the dispersion relations appropriate to different regions formed by the perfectly weak half-planes. To the memory of M. H. Kazi     

Mach reflection of weak shock waves from a rigid wall

On the basis of experimental observations and theoretical analysis of flow structure in the neighborhood of the triple point, it is shown that one should reject the condition for equality of the angle of deflection of flows passing through the Mach front and the two other fronts and replace it with some supplementary condition. The system of consistency equations in the indicated region is closed by an equation which is obtained under the assumption of the extremality of the deflection angle of a flow passing through the incident and reflected fronts. Synthesis of 3-methyl-6-r-6h-thiazolo-[4,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]-1,3,4-thiadiazoles

A one-reactor method has been developed for the synthesis of 3-methyl-6-R-6H-thiazolo[4,3-b]-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-d]-1,3,4-thiadiazoles by the condensation of aromatic aldehydes, thioglycolic acid, and 4-amino-5-methyl-1,2,4-triazole-3(2H)-thione in a sulfuric acid medium.     

TiO2 as a Reusable Catalyst for the One‐Pot Synthesis of 3,4‐Dihydropyrimidin‐2(1H)‐ones under Solvent‐Free Conditions

An efficient solvent‐free method for the synthesis of various 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1H)‐ones using TiO₂ as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst is described. Compared to known methods, satisfactory results are obtained with excellent yields, short reaction times, and simplicity in the experimental procedure.     

Studying of phenol adsorption on modified forms of bentonite

The modified forms of bentonite are formed by treating it with salts of various metals. Their nature, force and molecule number per 1 cm² are investigated. Also quantity of basic centers on their surface was determined by phenol adsorption.     

Experimental detection of specular reflection of gamma quanta

Scattering of bremsstrahlung electron beam (E _e = 6.25 MeV) collimated with a vertical divergence δ_γ ≈ ±60 μrad and incident on the mercury surface at glancing angles α = −37, −83, and −140 μrad is studied on the 118-m-long path length. The specular reflection effect is detected in the spectral and angular distributions of γ quanta with energies up to 3 MeV. The reflection coefficients vary from 0 to ∼17% depending on the angles of incidence and the γ quanta energy.
