The Functor of Order-Preserving Functionals of Finite Degree

It is proved that the space of all order-preserving functionals with finite supports is a compact, and if the supports are one-point sets, then this space is the Stone-Chech compactification of a given Tychonoff space. Open mapping theorem for spaces of weakly additive homogeneous functionals

We establish that if X and Y are metric compacta and f: X → Y is a continuous surjective mapping, then the openness of the mapping OH(f): OH(X) → OH(Y) of spaces of weakly additive homogeneous functionals is equivalent to the openness of f.     

Relation of F-center thermal stability to dislocation density for Nacl crystals

It is shown that the thermal stability is directly related to the dislocation density. The results are in general agreement with the ionic mechanism for color-center destruction, and dislocations may be the centers that trap the ions.We are indebted to V. I. Investigation into the processes of thermal and photothermal destruction of F-color centers in alkali-halide crystal phosphors

Using the concept of thermal and photothermal destruction of color centers in alkali-halide phosphors as an ion mechanism, certain formulas are examined which represent these processes. The phenomenon of thermal and photothermal destruction of F-color centers is investigated experimentally for the case of NaCl-Ag. A comparison of the experimental results obtained with the theory enabled an estimate to be made of a number of kinetic characteristics of the processes in question.The results obtained confirm the usefulness of the idea of ion processes in explaining the phenomena of relaxation in alkali-halide crystal phosphors.     

Calculation of spin-lattice relaxation times

A general expression is found for the probability for a direct (single-phonon) relaxation transition for arbitrary symmetry of the surroundings of a paramagnetic ion having an effective spin of S = 1/2. The expression is compared with experiment for the case of tetragonal symmetry. Since certain approximations frequently used in the calculations are not used here, a markedly improved agreement is found with the experimental relaxation times.Translated from Izvestiya VUZ.
