We prove asymptotic formulas for the number of rational points of bounded height on certain equivariant compactifications of the affine plane.     

Super-De Morgan functions and free De Morgan quasilattices

A De Morgan quasilattice is an algebra satisfying hyperidentities of the variety of De Morgan algebras (lattices). In this paper we give a functional representation of the free n-generated De Morgan quasilattice with two binary and one unary operations. Namely, we define the concept of super-De Morgan function and prove that the free De Morgan quasilattice with two binary and one unary operations on nfree generators is isomorphic to the De Morgan quasilattice of super-De Morgan functions of nvariables.     

Abelian varieties over fields of finite characteristic

The aim of this paper is to extend our previous results about Galois action on the torsion points of abelian varieties to the case of (finitely generated) fields of characteristic 2.     

Optimal control synthesis for the constrained bilinear biquadratic regulator problem

Optimal process control with control constraints is a challenging task related to many real-life problems. In this paper, a single input continuous time constrained linear quadratic regulator problem, is defined and fully solved. The constraints include both bilinear inequality constraints and customary control force bounds. As a first step, the problem is reformulated as an equivalent constrained bilinear biquadratic optimal control problem. Next, Krotov’s method is used to solve it. To this end, a sequence of improving functions suitable to the problem’s new formulation is constructed and the corresponding successive algorithm is derived. The required computational steps are arranged as an algorithm and proof outlines for the convergence and optimality of the solution are given. The efficiency of the suggested method is demonstrated by numerical example.     

Periodic wavelets on the <Emphasis Type=Italic>p</Emphasis>-adic Vilenkin group

Using the Walsh-Dirichlet type kernel, we construct periodic wavelets on the p-adic Vilenkin group. These wavelets are similar to the trigonometric wavelets which were introduced by C. K. Chui and H. N. Mhaskar [1]. Results on the corresponding fast algorithms for decomposition and reconstruction are also discussed.     

Thermodynamic Limit for Directed Polymers and Stationary Solutions of the Burgers Equation

The first goal of this paper is to prove multiple asymptotic results for a time-discrete and space-continuous polymer model of a random walk in a random potential. These results include: existence of deterministic free energy density in the infinite-volume limit for every fixed asymptotic slope, concentration inequalities for free energy implying a bound on its fluctuation exponent, and straightness estimates implying a bound on the transversal fluctuation exponent. The culmination of this program is almost sure existence and uniqueness of polymer measures on one-sided infinite paths with given endpoint and slope, and interpretation of these infinite-volume Gibbs measures as thermodynamic limits. Moreover, we prove that marginals of polymer measures with the same slope and different endpoints are asymptotic to each other. The second goal of the paper is to develop ergodic theory of the Burgers equation with positive viscosity and random kick forcing on the real line without any compactness assumptions. Namely, we prove a one force–one solution principle, using the infinite-volume polymer measures to construct a family of stationary global solutions for this system, and proving that each of those solutions is a one-point pullback attractor on the initial conditions with the same spatial average. This provides a natural extension of the same program realized for the inviscid Burgers equation with the help of action minimizers that can be viewed as zero temperature limits of polymer measures. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Effectivity of Brauer–Manin obstructions on surfaces

We study Brauer–Manin obstructions to the Hasse principle and to weak approximation on algebraic surfaces over number fields. A technique for constructing Azumaya algebra representatives of Brauer group elements is given, and this is applied to the computation of obstructions.     

Dynamics of vector solitons and vortices in two-dimensional photonic lattices

We study discrete vector solitons and vortices in two-dimensional photonic lattices with Kerr nonlinearity and demonstrate novel types of stable, incoherently coupled dipoles and vortex-soliton complexes that can be excited by Gaussian beams. We also discuss what we believe to be novel scenarios of the charge-flipping instability of incoherently coupled discrete vortices.
