Infinite paths in planar graphs III, 1‐way infinite paths

An infinite graph is 2‐indivisible if the deletion of any finite set of vertices from the graph results in exactly one infinite component. Let G be a 4‐connected, 2‐indivisible, infinite, plane graph. It is known that G contains a spanning 1‐way infinite path. In this paper, we prove a stronger result by showing that, for any vertex x and any edge e on a facial cycle of G, there is a spanning 1‐way infinite path in G from x and through e. Results will be used in two forthcoming papers to establish a conjecture of Nash‐Williams. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory     

Balancing a Rotor with Two Coupled Perfectly Rigid Bodies

The steady motions of a vertical rotor balanced by two coupled perfectly rigid bodies (PRBs) are analyzed for stability. The rotor executes plane-parallel motions. The PRBs can rotate together about the rotor axis and about its transverse axes through equal angles but in opposite directions. It is established that when the mass of the PRBs is much less than that of the rotor and the rotor spins with a superresonant speed, only the basic steady motions, which are those of the best-balanced rotor, are asymptotically stable.     

ZnSe及ZnSe/GaAs异质结构中压力导致的直接禁带向间接禁带的转变

用经验赝势方法计算了体ZnSe以及ZnSe/GaAs单异质结系统中ZnSe外延层г、X、L等特殊对称点导带底能量随压力的变化。结果表明，同Si、Ge、GaAs等半导体材料不同，ZnSe的X点导带底具有正的压力系数，但比г点的压力系数小，这是ZnSe材料以及ZnSe基异质结构材料发生直接禁带向间接禁带的转变时所需转变压力较大的根本原因。研究了ZnSe/GaAs异质结构中晶格失配造成的应变对外延层г、X、L对称点压力系数的影响，表明这种晶格失配造成的应变可以极大地减小ZnSe外延层材料由直接禁带向间接禁带的转变压力。     

Forward-angle yields of 2≤Z≤11 isotopes in the reaction of 18O(35A MeV) with 9Be

A systematic investigation of the forward-angle inclusive yields of 2≤Z≤11 isotopes produced in collisions of ¹⁸O projectile nuclei with a ⁹Be target in the Fermi energy region (35A MeV) is performed. The measurements were based on the use of the COMBAS double achromatic kinematical separator in the spectrometry mode at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, FLNR (JINR, Dubna). The velocity, isotopic, and element distributions are presented. There is no unique mechanism that would explain the total set of results obtained in this experiment. A dominant role of low-energy reaction mechanisms is observed. The intensity of secondary beams of halolike nuclei ¹¹Li, ¹²Be, and ¹⁴Be is determined.     

Quantum discreteness effects and flicker fluctuations in tunneling conductivity

An analysis of events in the tunneling junction shows that the interaction of one-electron processes in a many-electron system may be a source of scale-invariant low-frequency fluctuations of conductivity (the interaction consists in that the quantum probability of an electron transition depends on fast random changes in the environment in the course of the transition, including the changes caused by analogous transitions). The theory relates flicker fluctuations in the tunneling conductivity to the discrete character of the spectrum of electron states and explains the nonlinearity of the noise-current characteristic observed in nanocomposites.     

Quantum frequency standards based on the soliton state of a Bose-Einstein condensate

A method for stabilizing frequency based on using the soliton state of the Bose-Einstein condensate of alkali metal atoms as an atomic source was suggested. The critical total number of lithium condensate particles at which the existence of a quasi-one-dimensional soliton in the condensate was possible and the lifetime of such a soliton were estimated. The attainable accuracy of measuring reference transition frequencies in the suggested standard was shown to be substantially higher than with the known quantum frequency standards.     

北京谱仪Ⅲ电磁量能器触发系统的模拟研究

利用北京谱仪Ⅲ探测器模拟和触发系统模拟程序,研究了北京谱仪Ⅲ电磁量能器的触发方案.根据物理目标设计了中性事例触发,巴巴事例判选和带电事例触发的方案,优化了各触发条件的参数,并仔细研究了对本底的排斥能力.研究了一批典型的物理道,给出了它们的触发效率,同时给出了预期的本底触发事例率.     

Explicit Formulas for Generalized Action–Angle Variables in a Neighborhood of an Isotropic Torus and Their Application

Different versions of the Darboux–Weinstein theorem guarantee the existence of action–angle-type variables and the harmonic-oscillator variables in a neighborhood of isotropic tori in the phase space. The procedure for constructing these variables is reduced to solving a rather complicated system of partial differential equations. We show that this system can be integrated in quadratures, which permits reducing the problem of constructing these variables to solving a system of quadratic equations. We discuss several applications of this purely geometric fact in problems of classical and quantum mechanics.     

Indeterminacy Criteria for the Stieltjes Matrix Moment Problem

In this paper, we obtain criteria for the indeterminacy of the Stieltjes matrix moment problem. We obtain explicit formulas for Stieltjes parameters and study the multiplicative structure of the resolvent matrix. In the indeterminate case, we study the analytic properties of the resolvent matrix of the moment problem. We describe the set of all matrix functions associated with the indeterminate Stieltjes moment problem in terms of linear fractional transformations over Stieltjes pairs.
