A fast-slow dynamical systems theory for the Kuramoto type phase model

We present a fast-slow dynamical systems theory for the Kuramoto type phase model. When the order parameters are frozen, the fast system consists of independent oscillator equations, whereas the slow system describes the evolution of order parameters. We average out the slow system over the fast manifold to derive a weak form of an amplitude-angle coupled system for the evolution of Kuramoto?s order parameters. This yields the slow evolution of order parameters to be constant values which gives a rigorous proof to Kuramoto?s original assumption in his self-consistent mean-field theory.     

Chemical proprieties of the iron-quinone complex in mutated reaction centers of Rb. sphaeroides

We investigated type II bacterial photosynthetic reaction centers, which contain a quinone - iron complex (Q_A-Fe-Q_B) on their acceptor side. Under physiological conditions it was observed mainly in a reduced high spin state but its low spin ferrous states were also observed. Therefore, it was suggested that it might regulate the dynamical properties of the iron–quinone complex and the protonation and deprotonation events in its neighbourhood. In order to get insight into the molecular mechanism of the NHFe low spin state formation, we preformed M?ssbauer studies of a wild type of Rb. sphaeroides and its two mutated forms. Our M?ssbauer measurements show that the hydrophobicity of the Q_A binding site can be crucial for stabilization of the high spin ferrous state of NHFe.     

Polynorbornene dicarboximide/amine functionalized graphene hybrids for potential oxygen barrier films

In this work, we prepared polynorbornene dicarboximide (PND)/amine functionalized graphene (AFG) hybrids in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc). The AFG was synthesized by modifying graphene oxides (GO) with amine groups. The AFG sheets were well‐dispersed in DMAc and randomly distributed throughout the PND matrix in the hybrid films, which enhanced the mechanical and oxygen barrier properties of the PND/AFG hybrid films. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
