It has been shown that citrus flavanone naringenin and its prenyl derivative 8-prenylnaringenin (8-PN) possess various pharmacological activities in in vitro and in vivo models. Interestingly, it has been proposed that prenylation can enhance biological potentials, including the estrogen-like activities of flavonoids. The objective of this study was to investigate the anti-diabetic potential and molecular mechanism of 8-PN in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced insulin-deficient diabetic mice in comparison with naringenin reported to exhibit hypoglycemic effects. The oral administration of naringenin and 8-PN ameliorated impaired glucose homeostasis and islet dysfunction induced by STZ treatment. These protective effects were associated with the suppression of pancreatic β-cell apoptosis and inflammatory responses in mice. Moreover, both naringenin and 8-PN normalized STZ-induced insulin-signaling defects in skeletal muscles and apoptotic protein expression in the liver. Importantly, 8-PN increased the protein expression levels of estrogen receptor-α (ERα) in the pancreas and liver and of fibroblast growth factor 21 in the liver, suggesting that 8-PN could act as an ERα agonist in the regulation of glucose homeostasis. This study provides novel insights into the mechanisms underlying preventive effects of naringenin and 8-PN on the impairment of glucose homeostasis in insulin-deficient diabetic mice.  相似文献

The enhancement of weak Raman signals has been challenged to obtain high-quality signals of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). By employing the Parkinson's disease-related protein of α-synuclein, we introduce SERS-active gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) individually isolated with an ultrathin α-synuclein shell and their 2-D array into a tightly packed monolayer on a glass support, which permits a quantitative SERS measurement of phthalocyanine tetrasulfonate (PcTS), a chemical ligand of the pathological protein. Subsequently, the PcTS-bound SERS substrate was also shown to be capable of discriminating two biologically important metal ions of iron and copper by detecting copper ion to the sub-ppm level in a highly selective manner via the in situ chemical reaction of metal chelation to PcTS. The strategy of using the protein-based 2-D AuNP SERS platform, therefore, could be further developed into a custom-made protein-based biosensor system for the detection of not only specific chemical/biological ligands of the immobilized coat proteins but also their biochemical reactivities.  相似文献

The compositional dependence of co-sputtered tungsten indium zinc oxide (WInZnO) film properties was first investigated by means of a combinatorial technique. Indium zinc oxide (IZO) and WO3 targets were used with different target power. W composition ratio [W/(In+Zn+W)] was varied between 3 and 30 at% and film thickness was reduced as the sample position moved toward WO3 target. Furthermore, the optical bandgap energy increased gradually, which might be affected by the reduction in film thickness. All the WInZnO films showed an amorphous phase regardless of the W/(In+Zn+W) ratio. As the W/(In+Zn+W) ratio in WInZnO films increased, the carrier concentration was restricted, causing the increase in electrical resistivity. W cations worked as oxygen binders in determining the electronic properties, resulting in suppressing the formation of oxygen vacancies. Consequentially, W metal cations were effectively incorporated into the WInZnO films as a suppressor against the oxygen vacancies and the carrier generation by employing the combinatorial technique.  相似文献

We fabricated axicon microlenses on a single-mode bare optical fiber by using selective chemical etching technique. By varying the concentration and mixture ratios of etching solutions, we could make axicon microlenses with different apex angles (118°, 107° and 90°). We measured the illumination and collection efficiency of these microlenses by both objective-lens imaging and near-field photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy of semiconductor quantum dots with respect to the distance between the sample and the axicon lens probe. We found that axicons with 118° and 107° [90°] apex angle tend to exhibit the laser focusing spot sizes of about 406 and 478 nm [382 nm] and maintain the high [slightly low] collection PL intensity with the distance between the sample and the axicon probe.  相似文献

In this paper, carbon fibers with improved thermal stability and oxidation resistive properties were prepared and evaluated their physical performances under oxidation condition. Carbon fibers were coated with SiC particles dispersed in a polyacrylonitrile solution and then followed by pyrolyzed at 1400 °C to obtain the SiC nanoparticle deposition on the surface of the carbon fiber. The SiC coated carbon fiber showed extended oxidation resistive property as remaining 80-88% of the original weight even at high temperature 1000 °C under air, as compared with the control of zero weight at 600 °C. The effects of the coating conditions on the oxidation resistive properties of the coated fibers were studied in detail.  相似文献

In this work, the biodegradable poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) microcapsules were prepared in the presence of SiO(2) and fragrant oil using emulsion solvent evaporation method. And SiO(2) was chemically treated in 30 wt.% hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. The effect of chemical treatment on SiO(2) surfaces was studied in terms of pH, acid-base value, and N(2)/77 K gas adsorption. Image analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to observe the shape and surface change of the prepared microcapsules. And the variation of surface free energy of microcapsules was characterized by contact angles. The results showed that the average diameter, surface free energy, and fragrant oil release rate of microcapsules were increased with increasing the PEG ratio. Also, it was found that in the case of basic treated SiO(2), the fragrant oil adsorption capacity and release rate were decreased due to the decrease of specific surface area or the increase of acid-base interactions between basic SiO(2) and acidic fragrant oil.  相似文献

In this study we employed Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) and X-ray diffraction to monitor the molecular weight and crystallinity of bacterial cellulose I and II (BC-I, BC-II) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) digested with three “pure” Thermobifida fusca cellulases (Cel6A, Cel6B, and Cel9A ). For each enzyme, cellulose crystallinity was found to increase modestly with treatment time. The digestion rate of BC-II was higher than that of BC-I for Cel6A and Cel9A, both endocellulases. SEC results show that the endocellulases create a very rapid decrease in cellulose molecular weight while a slower molecular weight loss was observed with Cel6B, an exocellulase. This work suggests that conversion of native cellulose I to cellulose II by mercerization may beneficially impact the rate of sugar release by cellulases from biomass. In general, lower conversion rates are observed for MCC compared to BC, possibly due to a higher initial crystallinity for MCC. Surface area effects may also be important.  相似文献

A new chiral stationary phase (CSP) for the liquid chromatographic separation of enantiomers was prepared by bonding a novel enantiopure (diphenyl-substituted 1,1′-binaphthyl) crown ether to 5 μm silica gel. The resulting CSP was applied to the separation of the enantiomers of various natural and unnatural α-amino acids. All α-amino acids tested were resolved very well on the new CSP, with the exception of proline, which does not contain a primary amino group. The resolution of α-amino acid enantiomers on this new CSP was found to be dependent on the type and amounts of organic and acidic modifiers, and on column temperature.  相似文献
