Synthesis of pyridinium ylide complexes of methylcobaloxime and crystal structure determination of [benzoyl(1-pyridinio)methanide]bis(dimethylglyoximato)methylcobalt benzene solvate

Summary Pyridinium ylide complexes of methylcobaloxime were synthesized by the treatment of an ylide with Co(Hdmg)₂ Me(SMe₂). The crystal structure of one of the complexes, [Co(Hdmg)₂Me C₅H₅NCHCOPh]C₆H₆ has been determined by x-ray diffraction techniques. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2₁/c, witha = 10.456(5),b = 11.079(4),c = 24.58(1) Å, = 99.58(6), V = 2808 ų, Z = 4. The Co-C (ylide) bond distance is 2.18 Å and Co-C(methyl) 2.04 Å. C(ylide)-Co-C(methyl) bond angle is 174.9°. The crystal, i.r. and¹H n.m.r. data suggest that thetrans-influence of the ylide ligands is larger than that of py, Melm, OH₂ or PPh₃.     

Gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric profile of organic acids in urine and serum of diabetic ketotic patients

The organic acids in the urine and serum of diabetic patients with ketoacidosis and disturbance of consciousness were studied using acidification, extraction, evaporation, methoxime formation and trimethylsilylation, gas chromatographic separation and mass spectrometric identification procedures. The organic acid profile of 1 ml of serum ultrafiltrate was obtained with good separation using a gas chromatograph equipped with a glass capillary column and a splitless injector. 5-Hydroxyhexanoic acid and 3-hydroxyvaleric acid were identified for the first time in the urine of diabetic patients with ketoacidosis. Urinary excretion and serum concentrations of 2,3-dideoxypentonic acid were increased in diabetic patients.     

SPECIFIC PHOTOCOUPLING OF 5-BROMOURIDINE TO TRYPTOPHAN IN AQUEOUS FROZEN SOLUTION§

Abstract —5-Bromouridine (BrUd) photochemically reacted with l -tryptophan (trp) only in aqueous frozen solution giving rise to 2-[1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-(β-d -ribofuranosyl)-2,4-dioxo-5-pyrimidinyl]-l -tryptophan ( 1a ). Under similar conditions irradiation of 5-bromouracil (BrU) and trp gave the corresponding coupled product 2. Addition of acetone, potassium carbonate or sodium chloride to the frozen system completely inhibited the photocoupling reaction. These photocoupling reactions are suggested to proceed via mixed aggregate formation between trp and BrUd (or BrU) in frozen aqueous solution. Stacking interactions in these aggregates are characterized by an efficient quenching of trp fluorescence by BrUd. Under the same conditions other amino acids such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, histidine and lysine did not react with BrUd, indicating that the photocoupling of BrUd (or BrU) is specific for trp.     

The crystal structure and absolute configuration of the antitumor platinum complex trans(OH)-Pt(OH)2(malonato)(1R,2R-cyclohexanediamine).

The absolute configuration of the anti-tumor complex trans(OH)-Pt(OH)2(malonato)(1R,2R-cyclohexanediamine) was determined by X-ray anomalous scattering technique. The final unit cell was monoclinic, space group P2(1) with a = 9.142 A, b = 7.788 A, c = 11.946 A, beta = 96.48 degrees, Z = 2. The crystal structure was determined by direct method and difference Fourier synthesis, and refined to R = 0.025 and Rw = 0.033 based on 2768 independent reflections. The platinum atom has roughly octahedral coordination. The cyclohexane ring has the expected chair configuration, with two amino groups in equatorial positions while the malonato ligand, in contrast, shows a boat conformation for six membered Pt O-C-C-C-O ring.
