Fast gradient echo sequences, such as echo planer imaging (EPI) and spiral imaging, are vulnerable to artifacts resulting from B(0) inhomogeneities. A major contribution to these artifacts is the susceptibility variation across the head, which is most severe in regions adjacent to air-tissue interfaces, such as the mouth, nasal sinuses, ears and the cortex. Susceptibility artifacts can cause geometrical distortions in the image as well as loss of signal due to T(2)* dephasing. The extent of these artifacts increases with the main field, thus compromising the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) benefit gained in higher fields. In the current work, inhomogeneity caused by susceptibility variations at the external boundary of the human body has been corrected by surrounding the organs with a liquid without hydrogen atoms and whose susceptibility is similar to that of the imaged organ. EPI experiments were conducted on head-sized phantom, human brain, hand and legs. This method causes minimal patient inconvenience and no interference with any function of the scanner, thus yielding a simple and efficient solution for the correction of B(0) variation. 相似文献

We have investigated two possible fields of application for carbon nanotube (CNT) networks in flexible displays. Transparent and conductive layers of CNTs were spray coated onto glass and plastic substrates. The spectral transmission of the produced layers is almost even for all wavelengths in the visible regime. A sheet resistance of 400 Ω/□ at a transmittance of 80% was achieved.Thin-film transistors (TFT) were created on silicon wafers and glass substrates using low-density CNT networks as a semiconducting layer. The process used for device fabrication on glass substrates is fully compatible to application on plastic foils. The transistors reach on/off ratios of more than five orders of magnitude and show device charge carrier mobilities in the order of 1 cm2/Vs. These values promise an application in active matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCD). Issues that need to be addressed are the homogeneity and reproducibility of the device properties. 相似文献

We discuss the computational complexity of solving linear programming problems by means of an analog computer. The latter is modeled by a dynamical system which converges to the optimal vertex solution. We analyze various probability ensembles of linear programming problems. For each one of these we obtain numerically the probability distribution functions of certain quantities which measure the complexity. Remarkably, in the asymptotic limit of very large problems, each of these probability distribution functions reduces to a universal scaling function, depending on a single scaling variable and independent of the details of its parent probability ensemble. These functions are reminiscent of the scaling functions familiar in the theory of phase transitions. Structural changes in glutamate cell swelling followed by multiparametric q-space diffusion MR of excised rat spinal cord 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Diffusion in the extracellular and intracellular spaces (ECS and ICS, respectively) was evaluated in excised spinal cords, before and after cell swelling induced by glutamate, by high b-value q-space diffusion MR of specific markers and water. The signal decays of deuterated tetramethylammonium (TMA-d(12)) chloride, an exogenous marker of the ECS, and N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), an endogenous marker of the ICS, were found to be non-mono-exponential at all diffusion times. The signal decays of these markers were found to depend on the diffusion time and the cell swelling induced by the glutamate. It was found, for example, that the mean displacements of the apparent fast and slow diffusion components of TMA-d(12) are 7.21 +/- 0.11 and 1.16 +/- 0.05 microm, respectively at a diffusion time of 496 ms. After exposure of the spinal cords to 10 mM of glutamate, these values decreased to 6.62 +/- 0.13 and 1.01 +/- 0.05 microm, respectively. The mean displacement of NAA, however, showed a less pronounced opposite trend and increased after cell swelling induced by exposure to glutamate. q-Space diffusion MR of water was found to be sensitive to exposure to glutamate, and q-space diffusion MRI showed that a more pronounced decrease in the apparent diffusion coefficient and the mean displacement of water is observed in the gray matter (GM) of the spinal cord. All these changes demonstrate that diffusion MR is indeed sensitive to structural changes caused by cell swelling induced by glutamate. Multiparametric high b-value q-space diffusion MR is useful for obtaining microstructural information in neuronal tissues. 相似文献

The key structural feature in Boceprevir, Merck's new drug treatment for hepatitis C, is the bicyclic [3.1.0]proline moiety "P2". During the discovery and development stages, the P2 fragment was produced by a classical resolution approach. As the drug candidate advanced through clinical trials and approached regulatory approval and commercialization, Codexis and Schering-Plough (now Merck) jointly developed a chemoenzymatic asymmetric synthesis of P2 where the net reaction was an oxidative Strecker reaction. Transformation and inverse transformation between a free-space linearly polarized beam and the vectorial vortex mode of a circular hollow waveguide by use of Pancharatnam-Berry phase optical elements is proposed. Demonstration was achieved by fabricating GaAs subwavelength gratings and utilizing a 300 microm diameter hollow metallic waveguide for 10.6 microm wavelength CO(2) laser radiation. The mode transformations and the excitation of a single vectorial mode inside the hollow waveguide were verified by full polarization measurements. In addition, the inverse mode transformation of the single vectorial mode excitation in the waveguide enabled us to experimentally obtain a linearly polarized bright spot with a high central lobe. 相似文献

Light is a common source of energy in sustainable technologies for photocurrent generation. To date, in such light-harvesting applications, the excited electrons generate the photocurrent. Here, we introduce a new mechanism for photocurrent generation that is based on excited state proton transfer (ESPT) of photoacids and photobases that can donate or accept a proton, respectively, but only after excitation. We show that the formed ions following ESPT can either serve as electron donors or acceptors with the electrodes, or modify the kinetics of mass transport across the diffuse layer, both resulting in photocurrent generation. We further show that control of the current polarity is obtained by switching the irradiation between the photoacid and the photobase. Our study represents a new approach in photoelectrochemistry by introducing ESPT processes, which can be further utilized in light-responsive energy production or energy storage. 相似文献

The Randomized Kaczmarz method (RK) is a stochastic iterative method for solving linear systems that has recently grown in popularity due to its speed and low memory requirement. Selectable Set Randomized Kaczmarz is a variant of RK that leverages existing information about the Kaczmarz iterate to identify an adaptive “selectable set” and thus yields an improved convergence guarantee. In this article, we propose a general perspective for selectable set approaches and prove a convergence result for that framework. In addition, we define two specific selectable set sampling strategies that have competitive convergence guarantees to those of other variants of RK. One selectable set sampling strategy leverages information about the previous iterate, while the other leverages the orthogonality structure of the problem via the Gramian matrix. We complement our theoretical results with numerical experiments that compare our proposed rules with those existing in the literature. 相似文献
