Zusammenfassung Auf drei verschiedenen voneinander unabh?ngigen Wegen wurde das Problem der Kleberquellung erforscht, n?mlich von Wood und Hardy durch Beobachtung der Ver?nderungen des Zusammenhanges einer Klebermasse unter verschiedenen Bedingungen, von Upson und Calvin durch Ermittlung der Wasseraufnahme (Quellung) oder des Wasserverlustes (Entquellung einer Klebermasse in verschiedenen Medien und von Lüers und Wo. Ostwald durch Messung der Viskosit?t von Teigl?sungen bzw. Gliadin-Hydrosolen unter verschiedenen Einflüssen. Die theoretischen und praktischen Schlu?folgerungen der einzelnen Forscher führten zu einer weitgehenden Uebereinstimmung in allen wesentlichen Punkten, so da? das Ergebnis der genannten Studien als weitgehend gesichert und der eingeschlagene Weg als der richtige betrachtet werden darf.     

Kinetische Untersuchungen über die Auflösung von Azetylzellulose

Zusammenfassung Die Aufl?sung von Azetylzellulose in Zyklohexanon, ?thylazetat, Methylphtalat, Diazetonalkohol, Benzylalkohol und Methyl?thylketon wurde kinetisch untersucht. Neben normalen Geschwindigkeitskurven ergaben sich auch verwickeitere Formen, z. B. zweiteilige Kurvenformen, die im Sinne früherer Ausführungen als „Autopeptisationskurven“ gedeutet wurden. Wartet man nicht den Endzustand der Aufl?sung ab, so ergaben sich abnorme Kurven der Bodenk?rperabh?ngigkeit der L?slichkeit.

A graphG of ordern is said to be 3-placeable if there are three edge disjoint copies ofG inK _n. In the paper we prove that every graph of ordern and size at mostn–2 is 3-placeable unless isomorphic either toK ₃ 2K ₁ or toK ₄ 4K ₁.     

Intermetallic interactions in face-to-face homo- and heterodinuclear bismacrocyclic complexes of copper(II) and nickel(II)

New face-to-face heterodinuclear complexes containing copper(II) and nickel(II) in identical tetraazamacrocyclic environments have been synthesized and characterized using ESI mass-spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic methods, and elemental analysis. These new bismacrocyclic systems were compared with the respective mono- and bismacrocyclic and [2]catenane homonuclear complexes. Interactions between the metal centers were monitored by magnetic and electrochemical measurements. Magnetic data indicate that all copper compounds studied behave as weakly interacting magnets. In the case of copper [2]catenane, the extent of magnetic interactions decreased when a benzocrown moiety was introduced between the macrocyclic units. On the basis of electrochemical data, the interactions between the metal centers were found to be substantially larger for the nickel complexes than for the corresponding copper ones. Interlocking of a benzocrown ether to form [2]catenane led to a nonequivalence of the metal centers and to the increase of donor abilities of the catenane compared to the respective bismacrocyclic complex. This is reflected by the shift of the first formal potential to less positive values. Intermetallic interactions for the heteronuclear nickel/copper complexes were found intermediary compared to the homonuclear ones. They were strengthened by shortening the spacer between the two tetraazamacrocyclic subunits which is a convenient way of fine-tuning the interactions. The increase of intermetallic interactions led to the increased stability of the intermediate mixed-valence states indicated by the higher values of comproportionation constants.     

Low-temperature ordering effects in diblock copolymer melts from lattice simulation

A lattice simulation of a model diblock copolymer melt is presented. In a series of simulation experiments an 8-8 diblock melt is quenched from an athermal state to 47 lower temperatures. A set of simulation boxes, 30 x 32 x 30, 40 x 32 x 60, 50 x 32 x 30, and 60 x 32 x 30, is used in order to explore the size effects. Energy, specific heat, copolymer end-to-end distance, lamellar spacing, and the degree of interfacial ordering are reported. For all sizes considered, the low-temperature interfacial ordering is noticeable.

A Note on a Packing Problem in Transitive Tournaments

Let TT_n be a transitive tournament on n vertices. We show that for any directed acyclic graph G of order n and of size not greater than two directed graphs isomorphic to G are arc disjoint subgraphs of TT_n.
