The equation of rubber elasticity has been applied to the dynamic shear modulus of styreneunsaturated polyester networks. Due to the non-ideal nature of the networks, the apparent front factor approached the theoretical value of 0.5 only when the crosslink density was low. At higher crosslink densities, it has been found that either the non-Gaussian theory of Smith or the steric interaction approach of Blanchard and Wooton satisfactorily describes the results.  相似文献

Recently we described a coarse-grained model of poly(ethylene oxide) and then employed that model to study the amount of spontaneous threading of cyclic molecules by linear chains in the melt [C. A. Helfer, G. Xu, W. L. Mattice, and C. Pugh, Macromolecules 36, 10071 (2003)]. Since the amount of statistical threading at equilibrium is small, there is interest in identifying physical changes in the system that will increase the threading. We now use that coarse-grained model to investigate the effect on threading of various hypothetical (but feasible) modifications to the two-component system of macrocycles and linear chains in the melt, and different confinement geometries, that can bring about correlations in the arrangement of the rings. Our work follows on the concept of an amphiphilic approach [C. Pugh, J.-Y. Bae, J. R. Scott, and C. L. Wilkins, Macromolecules 30, 8139 (1997)] for increasing the statistical threading in homopolyrotaxane melts. We investigate whether introducing such correlations in the macrocycles can increase the spontaneous threading. This paper shows that some of our modifications can yield more than double the amount of threading seen in purely statistical mixing.  相似文献

We describe local similarities and global differences between minimal surfaces in Euclidean 3-space and constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space. We also describe how to solve global period problems for constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space, and we give an overview of recent results on these surfaces. A new technique to analyze aqueous samples for nanograms per liter levels of volatile and semivolatile compounds using microextraction and thermal desorption into a gas chromatograph/ion trap mass spectrometer (GC/MS) is described. This method is inherently sensitive (50 mL of aqueous sample is extracted prior to each desorption), uses no solvents, and detects volatiles and semivolatiles in the same analysis. Aqueous standards and environmental samples are pumped through a length of porous-layer open-tubular capillary column, which is then thermally desorbed onto a 30 m × 0.25 mm i.d. analytical column interfaced to an ion trap mass spectrometer for subsequent separation and detection. Sharp chromatographic peaks and reproducible retention times (RT) were observed. Replicate injections of surrogates (n = 6) averaged 32.6% R.S.D. Analysis of domestic tap water detected 55 analytes, some at the low-nanograms per liter level, and detected 3 halogenated ethenes, not previously reported in drinking water. Analysis of an aqueous sample from a municipal ground water source detected the presence of numerous semivolatile compounds at trace-levels.  相似文献

We report a new nonwrapping approach to noncovalent engineering of carbon nanotube surfaces by short, rigid functional conjugated polymers, poly(aryleneethynylene)s. Our technique not only enables the dissolution of various types of carbon nanotubes in organic solvents, which represents the first example of solubilization of carbon nanotubes via pi-stacking without polymer wrapping, but could also introduce numerous neutral and ionic functional groups onto the carbon nanotube surfaces.  相似文献

Eleven anthracylmethyl crown ethers have been synthesized and evaluated as fluorescence sensors for the marine toxin saxitoxin. Fluorescence enhancement data are consistent with a 1:1 binding complex for all crowns. The binding constants are in the range of 10(4) M(-)(1) in ammonium phosphate buffer (pH 7.1) in 80% ethanol solvent. Selectivity for sensing saxitoxin versus several organic analytes has been demonstrated for the first time. Possible modes of binding are presented, and relevance to saxitoxin monitoring programs are discussed.  相似文献

In the title complex, [UCl(C2H6OS)7]Cl3, the uranium metal center is coordinated in a distorted bicapped trigonal prism geometry by seven O atoms from di­methyl sulfoxide ligands and by a terminal chloride ligand. Charge balance is maintained by three outer‐sphere chloride ions per uranium(IV) metal center. Principle bond lengths include U—O 2.391 (2)–2.315 (2) Å, U—Cl 2.7207 (9) Å, and average S—O 1.540 (5) Å.  相似文献

A chiral bisurea‐based superhydrogelator that is capable of forming supramolecular hydrogels at concentrations as low as 0.2 mM is reported. This soft material has been characterized by thermal studies, rheology, X‐ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and by various spectroscopic techniques (electronic and vibrational circular dichroism and by FTIR and Raman spectroscopy). The expression of chirality on the molecular and supramolecular levels has been studied and a clear amplification of its chirality into the achiral analogue has been observed. Furthermore, thermal analysis showed that the hydrogelation of compound 1 has a high response to temperature, which corresponds to an enthalpy‐driven self‐assembly process. These particular thermal characteristics make these materials easy to handle for soft‐application technologies.  相似文献
