In vitro α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibition,and in vivo anti-hyperglycemic effects of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Psidium littorale</Emphasis> Raddi leaf extract

Guava, belonging to family Myrtaceae, is widely grown in tropical countries. Different parts of guava are reported to have long been used in folk medicine. In this study, the in vitro and in vivo anti-hyperglycemic activities of Psidium littorale Raddi leaves extract were investigated. The results indicated that the leaf extract demonstrates relatively high intestinal α-glucosidase inhibitory activity in rats, twice as high as acarbose. In addition, the extract also induced lowering fasting blood glucose levels in streptozotocin- induced diabetic rats at the dose of 150 mg/kg body weight, and without any effect on normal rats. Moreover, the extract did not significantly induce body weight loss in rats. The results suggest that P. littorale Raddi may prove to be useful in treating diabetes in humans.     

Gold(I) bis(N‐heterocyclic carbene) complexes: Metabolic stability,in vitro inhibition,and genotoxicity

We report the profiling of the metabolic stability, normal cell inhibition, and genotoxicity of the two gold complexes [Au (ⁱPr₂‐bimy)₂]PF₆ ( 1 ) and [Au (Fpyr)(ⁱPr₂‐bimy)]PF₆ ( 2 ), which show strong apoptotic activities in lung cancer cells. Liver microsomal tests revealed that the compounds have a relatively high half‐life compared to midazolam and do not suffer rapid metabolism and in vitro clearance. The cytotoxic potential of these compounds were also relatively weak in normal cells, with higher IC₅₀ values compared to cancer cells, with a 2–60 times difference. The Ames test revealed that the compounds do not give rise to any mutations as well. Overall, the compounds showed stability in liver microsomes, specificity for cancer cells, and a lack of genotoxic potential.     

Measuring the complex moduli of materials by using the double pendulum system

A interesting double pendulum system permits evaluating complex moduli (Young and shear) without independent excitation and transducers. This instrument was described at France in 1934 by Le Rolland and Sorin in Etude d'une méthode utilisant le couplage entre deux systèmes oscillants pour la détermination de la résistance mécanique des constructions et la mesure des modules d'élasticité, scientific and technical publications of the Air Force Ministry, no. 47, 1934. This device is revisited and improved in order to make it applicable to measurements of viscoelastic materials.     

πN scattering and electromagnetic corrections in the perturbative chiral quark model

We apply the perturbative chiral quark model to give predictions for the electromagnetic O(p²) low-energy couplings of the ChPT effective Lagrangian that define the electromagnetic mass shifts of nucleons and first-order (e²) radiative corrections to the πN scattering amplitude. We estimate the leading isospin-breaking correction to the strong energy shift of the π⁻p atom in the 1s state, which is relevant for the experiment “Pionic Hydrogen” at PSI.     

The isomeric ratios in photonuclear reactions of natural barium induced by bremsstrahlungs with endpoint energies in the giant dipole resonance region

We have determined the isomeric ratios in ¹³⁰Ba(γ, n)^129m,gBa, ¹³²Ba(γ, n)^131m,gBa and ¹³⁴Ba(γ, n)^133m,gBa photonuclear reactions of natural barium induced by bremsstrahlungs with end-point energies in the giant dipole resonance region. The investigated samples were irradiated at electron accelerator Microtron MT-25 of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reaction, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, Russia. The gamma spectra of the samples irradiated were measured with spectroscopic system consisting of 8192 channel analyzer and high-energy resolution (180 keV at gamma ray 1332 keV of ⁶⁰Co) HP(Ge) semiconductor detector Canberra. The GENIE2000 (Canberra) computer program was used for data processing. The results were discussed and compared with those of other authors.     

Graphs generated by Sidon sets and algebraic equations over finite fields

We study the spectra of several graphs generated by Sidon sets and algebraic equations over finite fields. These graphs are used to study some combinatorial problems in finite fields, such as sum product estimates, solvability of some equations and the distribution of their solutions.
