The flow of an adiabatic gas through a porous media is treated analytically for steady one- and two-dimensional flows. The effect on a compressible Darcy flow by inertia and Forchheimer terms is studied. Bertrand, Charon, Hudry and Lobstein studied, in their paper in 2004 [1], r-locating–dominating codes in paths Pn. They conjectured that if r≥2 is a fixed integer, then the smallest cardinality of an r-locating–dominating code in Pn, denoted by , satisfies for infinitely many values of n. We prove that this conjecture holds. In fact, we show a stronger result saying that for any r≥3 we have for all nnr when nr is large enough. Background  

The cortical activity underlying the perception of vowel identity has typically been addressed by manipulating the first and second formant frequency (F1 & F2) of the speech stimuli. These two values, originating from articulation, are already sufficient for the phonetic characterization of vowel category. In the present study, we investigated how the spectral cues caused by articulation are reflected in cortical speech processing when combined with phonation, the other major part of speech production manifested as the fundamental frequency (F0) and its harmonic integer multiples. To study the combined effects of articulation and phonation we presented vowels with either high (/a/) or low (/u/) formant frequencies which were driven by three different types of excitation: a natural periodic pulseform reflecting the vibration of the vocal folds, an aperiodic noise excitation, or a tonal waveform. The auditory N1m response was recorded with whole-head magnetoencephalography (MEG) from ten human subjects in order to resolve whether brain events reflecting articulation and phonation are specific to the left or right hemisphere of the human brain.  相似文献

We present a rigorous scheme that makes it possible to compute eigenvalues of the Laplace operator on hyperbolic surfaces within a given precision. The method is based on an adaptation of the method of particular solutions to the case of locally symmetric spaces and on explicit estimates for the approximation of eigenfunctions on hyperbolic surfaces by certain basis functions. It can be applied to check whether or not there is an eigenvalue in an ε-neighborhood of a given number λ > 0. This makes it possible to find all the eigenvalues in a specified interval, up to a given precision with rigorous error estimates. The method converges exponentially fast with the number of basis functions used. Combining the knowledge of the eigenvalues with the Selberg trace formula we are able to compute values and derivatives of the spectral zeta function again with error bounds. As an example we calculate the spectral determinant and the Casimir energy of the Bolza surface and other surfaces.  相似文献

We have characterized commercially available up-converting inorganic lanthanide phosphors for their rare earth composition and photoluminescence properties under infrared laser diode excitation. These up-converting phosphors, in contrast to proprietary materials reported earlier, are readily available to be utilized as particulate reporters in various ligand binding assays after grinding to submicron particle size. The laser power density required at 980 nm to generate anti-Stokes photoluminescence from these particulate reporters is significantly lower than required for two-photon excitation. The narrow photoluminescence emission bands at 520–550 nm and at 650–670 nm are at shorter wavelengths and thus totally discriminated from autofluorescence and scattered excitation light even without temporal resolution. Transparent solution of colloidal bead-milled up-converting phosphor nanoparticles provides intense green emission visible to the human eye under illumination by an infrared laser pointer. In this article, we show that the unique photoluminescence properties of the up-converting phosphors and the inexpensive measurement configuration, which is adequate for their sensitive detection, render the up-conversion an attractive alternative to the ultraviolet-excited time-resolved fluorescence of down-converting lanthanide compounds widely employed in biomedical research and diagnostics.  相似文献

We consider a bilinear reduced-strain finite element of the MITC family for a shallow Reissner-Naghdi type shell. We estimate the consistency error of the element in both membrane- and bending-dominated states of deformation. We prove that in the membrane-dominated case, under severe assumptions on the domain, the finite element mesh and the regularity of the solution, an error bound can be obtained if the contribution of transverse shear is neglected. Here is the thickness of the shell, the mesh spacing, and a smoothness parameter. In the bending-dominated case, the uniformly optimal bound is achievable but requires that membrane and transverse shear strains are of order as . In this case we also show that under sufficient regularity assumptions the asymptotic consistency error has the bound .

The spectral properties of Kitaev’s honeycomb lattice model are investigated both analytically and numerically with the focus on the non-abelian phase of the model. After summarizing the fermionization technique which maps spins into free Majorana fermions, we evaluate the spectrum of sparse vortex configurations and derive the interaction between two vortices as a function of their separation. We consider the effect vortices can have on the fermionic spectrum as well as on the phase transition between the abelian and non-abelian phases. We explicitly demonstrate the 2n-fold ground state degeneracy in the presence of 2n well separated vortices and the lifting of the degeneracy due to their short-range interactions. The calculations are performed on an infinite lattice. In addition to the analytic treatment, a numerical study of finite size systems is performed which is in exact agreement with the theoretical considerations. The general spectral properties of the non-abelian phase are considered for various finite toroidal systems.  相似文献
