Substrate-target distance dependence of structural and optical properties in case of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 films obtained by pulsed laser deposition

The paper presents the influence of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) parameters on the structural and optical properties of PZT thin films grown on platinum substrate. X-ray diffraction (XRD), spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are used to determine the thin film properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) are employed to get additional information. By changing the distance between target and substrate, different crystalline orientations of PZT are obtained. The thin film thickness and its roughness, as well as the refractive index are also influenced by the chosen distance.     

Corrigendum to “On norms of composition operators acting on Bergman spaces” [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 291 (2004) 189-202]

A theorem and a corollary in the paper cited in the title were stated incorrectly, as was pointed out by Christopher Hammond. We now state correctly and prove both of them. These results still generalize and explain the geometric meaning of the Cowen-Hurst norm formula. We also include additional references and provide an example relevant for further study.     

A Classification of 2-Arc-Transitive Circulants

A graph X is k-arc-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on the set of k-arcs of X. A circulant is a Cayley graph of a cyclic group. A classification of 2-arc-transitive circulants is given.     

Walks and regular integral graphs

We establish a useful correspondence between the closed walks in regular graphs and the walks in infinite regular trees, which, after counting the walks of a given length between vertices at a given distance in an infinite regular tree, provides a lower bound on the number of closed walks in regular graphs. This lower bound is then applied to reduce the number of the feasible spectra of the 4-regular bipartite integral graphs by more than a half.Next, we give the details of the exhaustive computer search on all 4-regular bipartite graphs with up to 24 vertices, which yields a total of 47 integral graphs.     

Semiovals contained in the union of three concurrent lines

PAN composite membrane with different solvent affinities controlled by surface modification methods

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite membranes with surface properties designed by either a chemical modification with ethylenediamine (EDA), or layer‐by‐layer (LbL) polyelectrolyte adsorption were investigated in this paper. Fourier‐transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and streaming potential measurements showed that the first step of the reaction with EDA in gas phase was the formation of ammonium salts with the reactive carboxylic groups present on the surface of the starting membrane. Part of the ammonium carboxylate groups was transformed in secondary amide linkages by a heat‐induced reaction. Poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (NaPSS) and a polycation containing about 95 mol % of N,N‐dimethyl‐2‐hydroxypropyleneammonium chloride units in the backbone (PCA₅) were used as opposite polyions in the LbL film construction. The adsorbed polyion amount per every layer was controlled by the nature and concentration of the supporting electrolyte in polyelectrolyte deposition solution (NaBr and KBr). An almost linear increase of the adsorbed polyion amount versus the layer pair number was observed. The swelling degree (SD) in pure alcohols of the LbL‐modified PAN composite membrane decreased with the increase of the solvent polarity and with the decrease of the pore volume by pore filling with polyelectrolyte complex multilayer. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
