We consider the Riemann–Hilbert problem in the following setting: find a function whose boundary values ϕ+(t) satisfy the condition a.e. on Γ. Here D is a simply connected domain bounded by a simple closed curve Γ, and K p( · )(D;ω) is the set of functions ϕ(z) representable in the form , where ω(z) is a weight function and (K Γφ )(z) is a Cauchy type integral whose density φ is integrable with a variable exponent p(t). It is assumed that Γ is a piecewise-Lyapunov curve without zero angles, ω(z) is an arbitrary power function and p(t) satisfies the Log-H?lder condition. The solvability conditions are established and solutions are constructed. These solutions largely depend on the coefficients a, b, c, the weight ω, on the values of p(t) at the angular points of Γ and on the values of angles at these points. Submitted: May 13, 2007. Instability of flexible tubes conducting fluid, or “garden hose instability”, is a phenomenon both familiar from everyday life and important for applications, which has been actively studied. However, previous works did not consider one of the most crucial physical effects — the dynamical change of the cross-section. We show how to consistently address this issue by coupling the geometrically exact rod dynamics with the fluid motion via the use of a constrained Hamilton's variational principle. We find strong effect of this dynamics on stability, and derive a variety of exact nonlinear solutions of traveling-wave type.  相似文献

Dendronized polymers consist of an elastic backbone with a set of iterated branch structures (dendrimers) attached at every base point of the backbone. The conformations of such molecules depend on the elastic deformation of the backbone and the branches, as well as on nonlocal (e.g., electrostatic, or Lennard–Jones) interactions between the elementary molecular units comprising the dendrimers and/or backbone. We develop a geometrically exact theory for the dynamics of such polymers, taking into account both local (elastic) and nonlocal interactions. The theory is based on applying symmetry reduction of Hamilton?s principle for a Lagrangian defined on the tangent bundle of iterated semidirect products of the rotation groups that represent the relative orientations of the dendritic branches of the polymer. The resulting symmetry-reduced equations of motion are written in conservative form.  相似文献

α‐Hydroxyisobutyric acid anhydrosulfate HiBAS (5,5‐dimethyl‐1,3,2‐dioxithiolan‐4‐one‐2‐oxide) was polymerized under various reaction conditions and the solid reaction products were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry (MT m.s.), fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry (FAB m.s.), viscosity, and SEC measurements. Thermal polymerizations at 100 °C mainly yielded cyclic oligo polyesters presumably resulting from a zwitterionic polymerization. Cycles were also detected when pyridine was used as catalyst at 20 °C. When triethylamine was used as catalyst traces of H2O played the role of initiators. Benzyl alcohol initiated the polymerization of HiBAS at 100 °C and yielded a polyester terminated by one benzylester and one OH endgroup. The SEC measurements indicated that all samples possess relatively low molar masses with number–average molecular weights ≤ 10,000 Da (in contrast to the literature data). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Willems' approach to dynamical systems without a priori distinguishing between inputs and outputs is accepted, and with this as a starting point, new linear dynamical systems are introduced and studied. It is proved in particular that (in the complex case) the set of isomorphism classes of completely observable (or completely reachable) linear systems with given input and output numbers and McMillan degree, has a natural structure of a compact algebraic variety. Formation of supramolecular ternary complexes within a functionalized hydrogel are shown for the first time to lead to large macroscopic motions with biologically important effectors such as aminoacids and peptides. The mechanical motions can be made reversible by the addition of external metal ion complexing agents, and represent also chemical logical gate functions, operating without external devices or power supply.  相似文献

Electromagnetic scattering from two-dimensional photonic crystals with two-dimensionally periodic defects is analyzed using a model of multilayered periodic arrays of parallel circular cylinders. The reflectance of the photonic crystals of finite thickness, which are free-standing or embedded in a dielectric slab, is obtained in terms of the lattice-sums, the T-matrix of a circular cylinder, and the generalized reflection matrix for a layered system. Numerical examples demonstrate that the refection and transmission bands of the crystals are reformed by introducing the periodic defects and their band natures are very sensitive to the polarization of excitation and the relative position of the defect element within a unit cell.  相似文献
