Direct fission versus sequential evaporation mechanism of sputtered caesium iodide cluster ions

A triple stage hybrid mass spectrometer was scanned for the trapping of the reaction intermediates of the over-all loss of two CsI-moieties from size-selected caesium iodide cluster ions of the general formula Cs (CsI)⁺ _n . In addition to appropriate MS/MS/MS-methods an electrically floated collision cell has been applied to trap intermediates of unimolecular and collision-induced evaporations. In comparison with other experimental findings the features of the evaporation mechanism are discussed.     

Calculus I: The first derivative of pseudoisotopy theory

Let P be the (stable, smooth) pseudoisotopy space of the space X. For any map Y: YX of spaces, we identify the homotopy type of the fiber of P(f): P(f) P(f) in a stable range, roughly twice the connectivity of the map YX. We establish some language for discussing and manipulating such stable-range relative calculations for any homotopy functor. The theorem about P has a corollary about Waldhausen's A. The asymptotic numbers of regular tournaments,Eulerian digraphs and Eulerian oriented graphs

LetRT(n), ED(n) andEOG(n) be the number of labelled regular tournaments, labelled loop-free simple Eulerian digraphs, and labelled Eulerian oriented simple graphs, respectively, onn vertices. Then, asn,, for any>0. The last two families of graphs are also enumerated by their numbers of edges. The proofs use the saddle point method applied to appropriaten-dimensional integrals.     

Reducible Dupin submanifolds

Pinkall's standard constructions for obtaining a Dupin hypersurface W in ^N from a Dupin hypersurface M in ⁿ , N>n, are studied in the context of Lie sphere geometry. It is shown that a compact Dupin hypersurface W in ^N with g distinct principal curvatures at each point is reducible to a compact Dupin hypersurface M in ⁿ if and only if g=2.This research was supported by NSF Grant No. DMS 87-06015.
