Supramolecular graphyne: a C(sp)-H...N hydrogen-bonded unique network structure of 2,4,6-triethynyl-1,3,5-triazine

The crystallization of 2,4,6-triethynyl-1,3,5-triazine (2) leads to a pi-stacked layered structure of a C(sp)-H...N hydrogen-bonded unique hexagonal network structure, which may be regarded as a supramolecular analogue of a hitherto unknown graphyne network: in-plane intermolecular interactions are short and linear H...N contacts (2.31 and 2.34 A) and the interlayer separation is 3.23 A.     

Catalytic Pauson-Khand-type reaction using aldehydes as a CO source

[reaction: see text]. Rhodium complex-catalyzed carbonylative alkene-alkyne coupling proceeds using aldehydes as a CO source. Cinnamaldehyde is the best CO donor, and various cyclopentenones were provided in high isolated yields by a solvent-free system.     

Evolution of lower-hybrid-driven current during the formation of an internal transport barrier

Evolution of the lower-hybrid(LH)-driven current profile was measured during the formation of an internal transport barrier (ITB) in a reversed magnetic shear discharge. As the ITB developed, the initially centrally peaked LH-driven current profile gradually turned hollow and was sometimes accompanied by an off-axis peak in the electron temperature profile. These observations indicate the concentration of LH power deposition to the ITB for this case as a result of nonlinear coupling between the LH waves and the target plasma.     

Interaction between anionic polyelectrolytes and anion exchange membranes and change in membrane properties

Electrodialytic transport properties of anion exchange membranes were measured after formation of anionic polyelectrolyte layers on the membrane surfaces: relative transport number of various anions to chloride ions, current efficiency and apparent diffusion coefficients of neutral molecules. The anionic polyelectrolyte layers were formed by immersing the membrane into an aqueous solution of polycondensation product of sodium naphthalene sulfonate and formaldehyde or polystyrene sulfonic acid.

The change in the relative transport number between anions was remarkable in the anion exchange membrane with high ion exchange capacity by forming the layer. Results were: the relative transport number of sulfate ions to chloride ions decreased and those of nitrate ions to chloride ions, fluoride ions to chloride ions and bromide ions to chloride ions increased compared with the corresponding membrane. Although the apparent diffusion coefficient of neutral molecules suggested clogging of the membrane pores by the polyelectrolyte, anions with higher hydrated ionic diameter were able to permeate through the membrane easily. This means that difference of electrostatic repulsion force against two anions is effective on the change in the relative transport number of anions.     

Molybdenum-catalyzed ring-closing metathesis of allenynes

A ring-closing metathesis reaction of allenynes occurred at room temperature in the presence of a molybdenum alkylidene complex to give ring-closed vinylallenes. The vinylallene skeletons were constructed by a metathesis-type reaction between the alkyne moiety and the proximal carbon-carbon double bond of the allene moiety. [reaction: see text]     

Iridium complex-catalyzed highly enantio- and diastereoselective [2+2+2] cycloaddition for the synthesis of axially chiral teraryl compounds

An asymmetric [2+2+2] cycloaddition of an alpha,omega-diyne, possessing ortho-substituted aryl groups on its terminus, and a monoalkyne with oxygen functionalities gave various axially chiral teraryl compounds. The coupling proceeded with extremely high enantio- (>99.5% ee) and diastereoselectivities (dl/meso = >95/5) when catalyzed by an iridium-chiral phosphine complex. As the products were readily transformed into diol compounds by deprotection without racemization, the present procedure provides access to a new chiral pool of diol compounds with C2 symmetry.     

Effect of Photo-Induced Periodic Gain Structure on Oscillation Power and Tunability in Polymer Dye Laser

Pumping dye-doped organic polymer by interference pattern of a frequency-doubled Nd:YAG 532 nm laser to induce a periodic gain-structure and confining it within a stable optical resonator, the oscillation output can be effectively enhanced in comparison with either that of uniform irradiation, i.e., pumping, or of distributed feedback (DFB) operation, and the oscillation wavelength becomes tunable by adjusting the period of the interference pattern. Using Rhodamine-B as a dopant over the range from 200 to 1000 ppm, the oscillation output was enhanced by - 10 dB, which was larger than the output of the uniform irradiation and was - 30% greater than the DFB scheme. Moreover, changing the period of the interference pattern by adjusting the setting angle of the Koster prism enables us to vary the oscillation wavelength around 600 nm.
