Determination of trace amounts of cadmium and copper by atomic absorption spectrometry after simultaneous extraction and preconcentration using a new water-soluble polyacrylic acid/alumina sorbent

An analytical method using alumina modified with water-soluble polyacrylic acid polymer for the simultaneous separation and preconcentration of trace Cu and Cd in a column system, and their determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry was developed. The conditions for coating Al₂O₃ with polyacrylic acid were optimized, then the column was packed with 50 mg of this sorbent. Cd and Cu solution was passed through a glass column at pH 4.5, and elution was carried out with 5 mL of 0.05 M HCl at a flow rate of 1 mL min⁻¹. A sorption capacity of 10 mg Cu and 12 mg Cd was obtained for 1 g sorbent. The detection limit was calculated as 4.5 μg L⁻¹ for Cu and 1.54 μg L⁻¹ for Cd in the final solution. Enrichment factors of 300 for Cd and 400 for Cu were obtained.     

A Novel Strategy for Determination of Paracetamol in the Presence of Morphine Using a Carbon Paste Electrode Modified with CdO Nanoparticles and Ionic Liquids

A voltammetric sensor for determination of paracetamol in the presence of morphine is described for the first time. The synthesized CdO nanoparticles were characterized with different methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). The paracetamol and morphine peaks are separated ca. 0.37 and 0.65 V, respectively; hence paracetamol can be analysed in the presence of morphine and more than 21 times of the current excess of paracetamol. The detection limits for paracetamol and morphine were 0.07 and 0.1 μM, respectively. The sensor has been successfully applied for the assay of the above compounds in real samples.     

An optimal type II fuzzy sliding mode control design for a class of nonlinear systems

This study deals with the problem of controlling a class of uncertain nonlinear systems in the presence of external disturbances. To achieve this goal, a new Optimal Type-2 Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller (OT2FSMC) is introduced. In the proposed controller, a novel heuristic algorithm, namely particle swarm optimization with random inertia weight (RNW–PSO), is employed. To achieve an optimal performance, the parameters of the proposed controller as well as the input and output membership functions are optimized simultaneously by RNW–PSO. The globally asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is mathematically proved. Finally, this method of control is applied to the inverted pendulum system as a case study. Simulation results show the system performance is desirable.     

A Simple Synthesis of Stable Phosphoranes Derived from Imidazole Derivatives

Stable crystalline phosphorus ylides were obtained in excellent yields from the 1:1:1 addition reaction between triphenylphosphine and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates, in the presence of strong NH-acids, such as imidazole, 2-methylimidazole, 4-methylimidazole, 2-ethylimidazole, benzimidazole, and 5,6-dimethylbezimidazole. These stable ylides exist in solution as a mixture of two geometrical isomers as a result of restricted rotation around the carbon–carbon partial double bond resulting from the conjugation of the ylide moiety with the adjacent carbonyl group.

These stable ylides exist in a solution as a mixture of two geometrical isomers as a result of the restricted rotation around the carbon–carbon partial double bond resulting from the conjugation of the ylide moiety with the adjacent carbonyl group.     

A Simple Synthesis of Stable Phosphorus Ylides Derived from 2-Benzoxazolinone and 2-Mercaptobenzoxazole

The reaction of triphenylphosphine with dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates in the presence of a strong SH-acid or NH-acid, such as 2-mercaptobenzoxazole and 2-benzoxazolinone, has been studied. In some cases, stable phosphorus ylides are obtained in excellent yields. The ylide moiety of these compounds is strongly conjugated with the adjacent carbonyl group, and the rotation about the partial double bond in (E) and (Z) geometrical isomers is slow on the NMR time scale at an ambient temperature. Thus, these exist as a mixture of geometrical isomers.     

An efficient one-pot multi-component synthesis of 3,4,5-substituted furan-2(5H)-ones catalyzed by tetra-n-butylammonium bisulfate

A facile one-pot synthesis of 3,4,5-substituted furan-2(5H)-one derivatives from a three-component reaction of aniline derivatives, dialkylacetylenedicarboxylates and aromatic aldehydes under mild conditions using tetra-n-butylammonium bisulfate as a catalyst has been developed.
