Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) coupled to a microreactor is an excellent tool for the investigation of reactions in solution. Here, we report the first results of our investigations into preparatively interesting electron-transfer-initiated chain reactions in solution which proceed via radical cations as reactive intermediates. The tris(p-bromophenyl)aminium hexachloroantimonate (1)-mediated [2+2] cycloaddition of trans-anethole (2) to give 1,2-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-3,4-dimethylcyclobutane (3) was investigated. The reaction proceeds as a radical cation chain reaction via transient intermediates 2 + and 3 + that could be detected and characterized unambiguously directly in the reacting solution by ESI-MS/MS. The identity of the intermediates was confirmed by comparison with authentic MS/MS spectra of 2 + and 3 + obtained by atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (APCI-MS). In addition, substrate and product can be monitored easily in the reacting solution by APCI-MS.Part of this work was presented at the 36th Conference of the German Society for Mass Spectrometry (DGMS).  相似文献

Poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, with different molecular weights, Mw, and degrees of hydrolysis has been used to study the steric stabilization of microgels based on poly(N-vinylcaprolactam). The stabilizer influences the particle size and stability, but has no influence on the thermal properties. The thermal behavior of microgels depends on the heating rate: slow heating leads to the formation of aggregates and fast heating to an intramolecular collapse. The aggregates showed an unusual angular dependence of the diffusion coefficient, which can be explained by the presence of probably an additional rotational diffusion.  相似文献

The sizes and mass spectra of large (N=1900-13,700 molecules) cold (approximately 3.1 K) H2 clusters have been measured after scattering from CO molecules. Cluster-size measurements after between 2 and 8 collisions indicate that 7% of the H2 molecules are evaporated. This loss agrees with calculations for the number of H2 molecules evaporated by the heat released in the transition from an initial liquid state to a final solid state. Even though heterogeneous nucleation is initiated after only a few collisions with CO molecules, the mass spectra show that additional captured CO molecules coagulate to form large CO clusters with up to n=11 molecules, suggesting that the outer layer is sufficiently liquidlike to facilitate mobility of the CO molecules. Since the calculated H2 cluster temperature (approximately 3.1 K) is below the superfluid transition temperature predicted for pH2 with density between 40% and 80% of the triple-point density, a shell-like region of low density near the cluster surface can be expected to be superfluid.  相似文献

Protein adsorption of human serum onto six different agarose-based chromatographic gels that were representative of the salt-promoted adsorbent family [octyl- and phenyl-Sepharose, mercaptoethanol–divinyl sulfone agarose (T gel), mercaptomethylene pyridine-derivatized agarose gel (MP gel), tricyanoaminopropene–divinyl sulfone agarose (DVS–TCP gel), tricyanoamino-propene–bisoxirane agarose (bisoxirane–TCP gel)] was studied in the presence of moderate or high concentrations of the water structuring salt, sodium sulfate. Study of the protein adsorption selectivity by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis revealed an opposed selectivity for hydrophobic interaction adsorbents and electron donor–acceptor adsorbents. The T gel, MP gel and TCP gels belonged to the electron donor–acceptor adsorbents, displaying a main selectivity for immunoglobulins, whereas octyl-Sepharose belonged to the hydrophobic adsorbents, displaying a main selectivity for ‘hydrophobic' proteins. Phenyl-Sepharose for its part was described as an example of a composite selectivity of both families. The conclusion of this work is two-fold: (1) hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC) and electron donor–acceptor chromatography (EDAC) have opposed protein selectivities and are both salt-promoted. As a main consequence, it means that high concentrations of a water-structuring salt can promote different types of weak molecular interactions, resulting in different protein adsorption selectivities: (2) thiophilic adsorption chromatography (TAC) should be renamed EDAC as similar protein selectivity is demonstrated for electron donor–acceptor ligand devoid of sulfur atoms.  相似文献

The formation of micelles in aqueous mixtures of a carbohydrate-based bolaamphiphile and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is investigated by surface tension and small-angle neutron scattering. The obtained values of critical micelle concentration (CMC) are analyzed within the framework of regular solution theory. Synergetic interactions between the bolaamphiphile and SDS are observed (parameter beta is negative; a minimum in the plot CMC vs composition). SANS data are collected for mixtures containing protonated and deuterated SDS. This gives us the possibility to conclude that mixed micelles with a homogeneous distribution of surfactant molecules within the micelle are formed. The shape of the micelles is found to be slightly oblate.  相似文献

The substance MHPOBC is the oldest and still most important reference antiferroelectric liquid crystal (AFLC). There is still considerable controversy concerning the correct phase designations for this material and, in particular, about the presence or absence of SmC* in its phase sequence. By means of dielectric spectroscopy and polarizing microscopy, we show that whereas the pure compound lacks the SmC* phase, this phase rapidly replaces the SmC*β subphase through the reduced purity resulting from temperature-induced chemical degradation which is hard to avoid under standard experimental conditions. X-ray investigations furthermore show that this change in phase sequence is coupled to a decrease in translational order. This explains the large variations in the reported phase sequence and electro-optic behaviour of MHPOBC, in particular concerning the SmC*β phase which has been said to exhibit ferro-, ferri- as well as antiferroelectric properties. It is likely that the sensitivity of the AFLC phase sequence to sample purity is a general property of AFLC materials. We discuss the importance of optical and chemical purity as well as tilt and spontaneous polarization for the observed phase sequence and propose that one of the key features determining the existence of the different tilted structures is the antagonism between orientational (nematic) and translational (smectic) order. The decreased smectic order (increased layer interdigitation) imposed by chemical impurities promotes the synclinic SmC* phase at the cost of the AFLC phases SmC*α, SmC*β, SmC*γ and SmC*a. We also propose that the SmA* phase in FLC and AFLC materials may actually have a somewhat different character and, depending on its microstructure, some of the tilted phases can be expected to appear or not to appear in the phase sequence. AFLC materials exhibiting a direct SmA* -SmC*a transition are found to be typical ‘de Vries smectics’, with very high orientational disorder in the SmA* phase. Finally, we discuss the fact that SmC*β and SmC*γ have two superposed helical superstructures and explain the observation that the handedness of the large scale helix may very well change sign, while the handedness on the unit cell level is preserved.  相似文献

Poly(oligoethylene glycol methacrylate), POEGMA, brushes were prepared by surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI‐ATRP) on gold‐coated silicon wafers. Prior to ATRP, the substrates were grafted by brominated aryl initiators via the electrochemical reduction of a noncommercial parent diazonium salt of the formula BF4?, +N2‐C6H4‐CH(CH3)Br. The diazonium‐modified gold plates (Au‐Br) served as macroinitiators for ATRP of OEGMA which resulted in hydrophilic surfaces (Au‐POEGMA) that could be used for two distinct objectives: (i) resistance to fouling by Salmonella Typhimurium; (ii) specific recognition of the same bacteria provided that the POEGMA grafts are activated by anti‐Salmonella. The Au‐POEGMA plates were characterized by XPS, polarization modulation‐infrared reflection‐absorption spectroscopy (PM‐IRRAS) and contact angle measurements. Both Beer‐Lambert equation and Tougaard's QUASES software indicated a POEGMA thickness that exceeds the critical ~10 nm value necessary for obtaining a hydrophilic polymer with effective resistance to cell adhesion. The Au‐POEGMA slides were further activated by trichlorotriazine (TCT) in order to covalently bind anti‐Salmonella antibodies (AS). The antibody‐modified Au‐POEGMA specimens were found to specifically attach Salmonella Typhimurium bacteria. The evolution of the Li-ion displacements in the 3D interstitial pathways of the cubic garnet-type Li(7)La(3)Zr(2)O(12), cubic Li(7)La(3)Zr(2)O(12), was investigated with high-temperature neutron diffraction (HTND) from RT to 600 °C; the maximum-entropy method (MEM) was applied to estimate the Li nuclear-density distribution. Temperature-driven Li displacements were observed; the displacements indicate that the conduction pathways in the garnet framework are restricted to diffusion through the tetrahedral sites of the interstitial space.  相似文献

The present study comprehensively explores diverse mechanistic pathways for intramolecular hydroamination of prototype 2,2‐dimethyl‐4‐penten‐1‐amine by Cp*Ir chloropyrazole ( 1 ; Cp*=pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) in the presence of KOtBu base with the aid of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The most accessible mechanistic pathway for catalytic turnover commences from Cp*Ir pyrazolato (Pz) substrate adduct 2 ?S, representing the catalytically competent compound and proceeds via initial electrophilic activation of the olefin C?C bond by the metal centre. It entails 1) facile and reversible anti nucleophilic amine attack on the iridium–olefin linkage; 2) Ir? C bond protonolysis via stepwise transfer of the ammonium N? H proton at the zwitterionic [Cp*IrPz–alkyl] intermediate onto the metal that is linked to turnover‐limiting, reductive, cycloamine elimination commencing from a high‐energy, metastable [Cp*IrPz–hydrido–alkyl] species; and 3) subsequent facile cycloamine liberation to regenerate the active catalyst species. The amine–iridium bound 2 a ?S likely corresponds to the catalyst resting state and the catalytic reaction is expected to proceed with a significant primary kinetic isotope. This study unveils the vital role of a supportive hydrogen‐bonded network involving suitably aligned β‐basic pyrazolato and cycloamido moieties together with an external amine molecule in facilitating metal protonation and reductive elimination. Cooperative hydrogen bonding thus appears pivotal for effective catalysis. The mechanistic scenario is consonant with catalyst performance data and furthermore accounts for the variation in performance for [Cp*IrPz] compounds featuring a β‐ or γ‐basic pyrazolato unit. As far as the route that involves amine N? H bond activation is concerned, a thus far undocumented pathway for concerted amidoalkene → cycloamine conversion through olefin protonation by the pyrazole N? H concurrent with N? C ring closure is disclosed as a favourable scenario. Although not practicable in the present system, this pathway describes a novel mechanistic variant in late transition metal–ligand bifunctional hydroamination catalysis that can perhaps be viable for tailored catalyst designs. The insights revealed herein concerning the operative mechanism and the structure–reactivity relationships will likely govern the rational design of late transition metal–ligand bifunctional catalysts and facilitate further conceptual advances in the area.  相似文献
