We show that the Choquet boundary of a convolution algebra of measures is contained in the set of generalized characters of idempotent modulus. We then give a number of sufficient conditions for Choquet boundary points and determine the Choquet boundary for some examples, including the examples of Hewitt-Kakutani and Simon. Finally we state and prove a theorem of Bochner's type forL-algebras generated by a single measure.  相似文献

Vocal symptoms and voice disorders among teachers were studied in 1988 using a questionnaire designed to obtain information on six vocal symptoms that had appeared during the past 2 years. Twelve percent of the 478 respondents reported vocal symptoms occurring weekly or more often. The study was repeated using the same questionnaire in 2001. The results of this second study (n=241) indicate that vocal symptoms had increased considerably. Twenty-nine percent of the teachers reported symptoms occurring weekly or more often, and 20% reported two symptoms or more occurring at least once a week, which is significantly more than in 1988. Accordingly, voice disorders are probably a growing problem among teachers. Several factors may explain these increases. In 2001, the teachers complained more often about increases in the size of their classes. Factors that disturbed normal work routines, such as noisy or misbehaving pupils, had also increased significantly. A growing number of misbehaving pupils probably cause increased background noise and stress and, thus, increase the vocal symptoms in teachers.  相似文献

Organic residues associated with Neolithic pottery from two Late Neolithic sites, Paliambela and Makriyalos (Northern Greece), were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The study aimed at identifying the origin of the tar used for waterproofing and gluing broken pots. Reference tars were prepared in laboratory conditions by pyrolysis of the bark from three tree species, namely from Betula pendula (silver birch), Ostrya carpinifolia (hop hornbeam) and Carpinus orientalis (Eastern hornbeam). The results suggest that mostly birch bark tar was used as glue for fixing broken pieces of the pots as well as for waterproofing close-shaped vessels. None of the archaeological tars derived from the two hornbeams. The analysis shows certain variability in the composition of birch bark tar, which is related to the production technique and to the re-use of tar. Of particular interest is the presence of characteristic diterpenoid biomarkers in several samples, which indicates that pine pitch was used for gluing and pine resin for waterproofing vessels for liquids. A disposable, small scale and low-cost electrochemical "wall-jet" flow-cell was build up together with a graphite lead mounted onto a pencil holder able to modulate the current response by the control of the surface area of the electrode. The total phenolic content of different types of tea infusions was determined and compared with the conventional Folin-Ciocolteau method. An index of antioxidant power was also proposed and data were compared with those obtained by the DPPH* assay.  相似文献

Assembled films of nonaqueous nanoparticles, known as monolayer-protected clusters (MPCs), are investigated as adsorption platforms in protein monolayer electrochemistry (PME), a strategy for studying the electron transfer (ET) of redox proteins. Modified electrodes featuring MPC films assembled with various linking methods, including both electrostatic and covalent mechanisms, are employed to immobilize cytochrome c (cyt c) for electrochemical analysis. The background signal (non-Faradaic current) of these systems is directly related to the structure and composition of the MPC films, including nanoparticle core size, protecting ligand properties, as well as the linking mechanism utilized during assembly. Dithiol-linked films of Au225(C6)75 are identified as optimal films for PME by sufficiently discriminating against detrimental background current and exhibiting interfacial properties that are readily engineered for cyt c adsorption and electroactivity (Faradaic current). Surface concentrations and denaturation rates of adsorbed cyt c are dictated by specific manipulation of the individual MPCs composing the outer layer of the film. The use of specially designed, hydrophilic MPCs as a terminal film layer results in near-ideal cyt c voltammetry, attributed to a high degree of molecular level control of the necessary interfacial interactions and flexibility needed to create a uniform and effective binding of protein across large areas of a substrate. The electrochemical properties of cyt c at MPC films, including ET rate constants that are unaffected by the large ET distance introduced by MPC assemblies, are compared to traditional strategies employing self-assembled monolayers to immobilize cyt c. The incorporation of nanoparticles as protein adsorption platforms has implications for biosensor engineering as well as fundamental biological ET studies.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics simulations are carried out to study the adsorption of three lipids, namely, DOPC, DOPS, and DMTAP, on TiO2(110) rutile surfaces and the influence of the interface on their conformational properties. Three types of rutile (110) surfaces, characterized by a different degree of hydroxylation (the neutral nonhydroxylated and hydroxylated surfaces and a partially hydroxylated surface with charge density corresponding to physiological pH) are investigated using force fields derived from ab initio calculations and experimental data. It is found that the stability of the adsorbate and the strength of the attachment are strictly connected with the nature of both the lipid and the surface. Direct coordination of the phosphate or carbonyl oxygens of the lipids with available titanium sites, observed in the case of partially or nonhydroxylated layers, determines stronger adsorption and, as a consequence, reduced dynamics. For a given hydration state of the surface, the adsorption strengths are in the order DOPS > DOPC > DMTAP, in agreement with experimental data according to which the presence of DOPS units inside lipid bilayers favors stronger adsorption and lower mobility. The adsorption geometry, the hydration state of the lipid headgroups, and the dynamical processes (detachment, diffusion, etc.) occurring at the lipid/oxide interface are analyzed in detail, putting on a roughly quantitative basis time scales and energy barriers of the latter processes.  相似文献

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) has long had a place in the treatment of many malignancies. 5-FU plasma concentrations have been correlated with toxicity and efficacy, and therapeutic drug monitoring has been reported to result in an improved response/toxicity balance. We report validation, according to FDA guidelines, of a hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) assay for the sensitive, accurate and precise quantitation of 5-FU in human plasma. The assay employed an isotopically labeled 5-FU internal standard and ethyl acetate extraction. Separation was achieved with an amino column and an isocratic mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile/water (97:3, v/v), followed by a wash. Detection consisted of electrospray, negative-mode ionization tandem mass spectrometry in the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. The accuracy was 96.0-102.2%, and precision was 2.1-7.5% in the concentration range of 10-10 000 ng/mL. Recovery from plasma was 46.0-72.6%, and ion suppression was 9.8-25.7%. Plasma freeze/thaw stability was 87.5-104.3%, and stability for 4 h at room temperature was 98.7-100.0%. This assay is currently being used to quantitate 5-FU in human plasma samples.  相似文献

Nucleophile (11)C/ (14)C [ k (11)/ k (14)] and secondary alpha-deuterium [( k H/ k D) alpha] kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) were measured for the S N2 reactions between tetrabutylammonium cyanide and ethyl iodide, bromide, chloride, and tosylate in anhydrous DMSO at 20 degrees C to determine whether these isotope effects can be used to determine the structure of S N2 transition states. Interpreting the experimental KIEs in the usual fashion (i.e., that a smaller nucleophile KIE indicates the Nu-C alpha transition state bond is shorter and a smaller ( k H/ k D) alpha is found when the Nu-LG distance in the transition state is shorter) suggests that the transition state is tighter with a slightly shorter NC-C alpha bond and a much shorter C alpha-LG bond when the substrate has a poorer halogen leaving group. Theoretical calculations at the B3LYP/aug-cc-pVDZ level of theory support this conclusion. The results show that the experimental nucleophile (11)C/ (14)C KIEs can be used to determine transition-state structure in different reactions and that the usual method of interpreting these KIEs is correct. The magnitude of the experimental secondary alpha-deuterium KIE is related to the nucleophile-leaving group distance in the S N2 transition state ( R TS) for reactions with a halogen leaving group. Unfortunately, the calculated and experimental ( k H/ k D) alpha's change oppositely with leaving group ability. However, the calculated ( k H/ k D) alpha's duplicate both the trend in the KIE with leaving group ability and the magnitude of the ( k H/ k D) alpha's for the ethyl halide reactions when different scale factors are used for the high and the low energy vibrations. This suggests it is critical that different scaling factors for the low and high energy vibrations be used if one wishes to duplicate experimental ( k H/ k D) alpha's. Finally, neither the experimental nor the theoretical secondary alpha-deuterium KIEs for the ethyl tosylate reaction fit the trend found for the reactions with a halogen leaving group. This presumably is found because of the bulky (sterically hindered) leaving group in the tosylate reaction. From every prospective, the tosylate reaction is too different from the halogen reactions to be compared.  相似文献
