Laser spectroscopic properties of Nd3+ -doped tellurite glasses

The stimulated emission cross-section σ and fluorescence lifetime for the 1.06 μm emission (⁴F_3/2 →⁴I_1/12) have been measured for a number of Nd-doped tellurite glasses. The measured value of σ ? 9 × 10^-20 cm ² for the tellurite glasses is to be compared with the value of 3.5 × 10^-20 cm ² for the ED-2 glass. Based on the measured spectroscopic parameters, an LED-pumped tellurite glass fiber laser is predicted to perform better than ED-2 glass, both in the longitudinal and transverse pumping configuration. The threshold for side-pumped tellurite glass laser can be comparable or even lower than that in Nd:YAG.     

The polarography of oximes: I. 9,10-Phenanthraquinone monoxime

Polarography of 9,10-phenanthraquinone monoxime has been carried out in buffers (pH 3.50 to 13.40) of constant ionic strength 0.5 M in 40% alcoholic solutions at 35 ± 0.5 °C. The oxime group underwent diffusion-controlled reduction (4e) over the whole pH range studied. The number of electrons involved in the reduction was found coulometrically as well as by incorporating the value of the diffusion coefficient, obtained by using a McBain-Dawson cell, into the Ilkovic equation. Controlled potential electrolyses and uv spectroscopic methods were used to identify the products. Koutecky's method was used to compute the kinetic parameters (αn_aand ?log k_f,h^o) for the reduction of the oxime group and reduction mechanisms are proposed.     

Crystal field contribution to Mössbauer isomer shift

The crystal field hamiltonian H_c = B₂⁰Y₂⁰ + B₂²(Y₂² + Y₂^?2) commonly used in the study of electron-spin resonance is employed to obtain new contributions to the ⁵⁷Fe³⁺ isomer shift in the Mössbauer effect. A numerical estimate of the shift is also presented.     

Investigation of the 40Ar + 197Au, 238U systems at 44 MeV/u

We have measured the angular correlation between two fragments emitted in the reactions Ar + Au and Ar + U at 44 MeV/u at GANIL. The aim was to investigate the amount of initial linear momentum transferred from the projectile to a fissioning nucleus. It turned out that this amount is much smaller than can be extrapolated from previous experiments. Furthermore, the probability of forming a fissioning nucleus is very small.
