Covariance-based approaches to aeroacoustic noise source analysis

In this paper, several covariance-based approaches are proposed for aeroacoustic noise source analysis under the assumptions of a single dominant source and all observers contaminated solely by uncorrelated noise. The Crame?r-Rao Bounds (CRB) of the unbiased source power estimates are also derived. The proposed methods are evaluated using both simulated data as well as data acquired from an airfoil trailing edge noise experiment in an open-jet aeroacoustic facility. The numerical examples show that the covariance-based algorithms significantly outperform an existing least-squares approach and provide accurate power estimates even under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. Furthermore, the mean-squared-errors (MSEs) of the so-obtained estimates are close to the corresponding CRB especially for a large number of data samples. The experimental results show that the power estimates of the proposed approaches are consistent with one another as long as the core analysis assumptions are obeyed.     

Mass transport controlled oxygen reduction at anthraquinone modified 3D-CNT electrodes with immobilized Trametes hirsuta laccase

Carbon nanotubes covalently modified with anthraquinone were used as an electrode for the immobilization of Trametes hirsuta laccase. The adsorbed laccase is capable of oxygen reduction at a mass transport controlled rate (up to 3.5 mA cm(-2)) in the absence of a soluble mediator. The storage and operational stability of the electrode are excellent.

Influence of moisture on transient oxidation and reduction of alumina-supported platinum

The transient surface behavior on oxidation and reduction of a partially oxidized alumina-supported platinum catalyst containing residual water have been observed by AC electrical conductance (G) measurements.     

Effect of some parasite surface reactions on the variation of electrical conductance in the H2?Pt/Al2O3 system

The charge transfer at the interface H₂-0.5% Pt/Al₂O₃ was studied by using the transient response of the AC electrical conductance. The transient response for water and oxygen contaminated surface was of the overshoot-type.     

Development of an Electrochemical Immunoassay Based on the Use of an Eight‐Electrodes Screen‐Printed Array Coupled with Magnetic Beads for the Detection of Antimicrobial Sulfonamides in Honey

In this work an electrochemical immunoassay, based on a direct competitive assay, was developed using magnetic beads as solid phase and carbon screen‐printed arrays as transducers for the detection of sulfonamides in food matrices such as honey. Magnetic beads coated with protein A were modified by immobilisation of specific antibodies and then the competition between the target analyte and the corresponding analyte‐labelled with an enzyme was carried out; after the immunosensing step, beads were captured by a magnet onto the working surfaces of a screen‐printed eight‐electrodes array for a multiple electrochemical detection. Screen‐printed eight‐electrodes arrays were chosen as transducers due to the possibility to repeat multiple analysis and to test different samples simultaneously. Alkaline Phosphatase (AP) was used as enzyme label and Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) as fast electrochemical technique. Calibration curves demonstrate that the developed electrochemical immunoassay was able to detect this class of drugs in standard solutions at low concentrations (ng/mL levels). The short incubation times (25 min) and the fast electrochemical measurement (10 sec) make of these systems a possible alternative to classic ELISA tests.     

Bioelectrochemical detection of L-lactate respiration using genetically modified Hansenula polymorpha yeast cells overexpressing flavocytochrome b2

In general, L-lactate respiration is difficult to detect in living yeast cells due to the small activity of L-lactate oxidizing enzymes within the mitochondria. Genetically modified cells of methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha overproducing L-lactate:cytochrome c-oxidoreductase (EC 1.1.2.3, also known as flavocytochrome b₂, FC b₂) were physically immobilized by means of a dialysis membrane onto various types of electrode materials in order to investigate the possibility of electrochemically detecting L-lactate respiration. It could be shown that in the case of genetically modified Hansenula polymorpha cells in contrast to cells from the parental strain, enhanced L-lactate-dependent respiration could be detected. Due to overproduction of FC b₂ the O₂ reduction current is decreased upon addition of L-lactate to the electrolyte solution. The electron transfer pathway in the L-lactate-dependent respiration process involves a cascade over three redox proteins, FC b₂, cytochrome c and Complex-IV, starting with L-lactate oxidation and ending with oxygen reduction. By means of selective inhibition of Complex IV with CN⁻, lactate respiration could be proven for causing the decrease in the O₂ reduction.     

Zero–Hopf bifurcation in a hyperchaotic Lorenz system

We characterize the zero–Hopf bifurcation at the singular points of a parameter codimension four hyperchaotic Lorenz system. Using averaging theory, we find sufficient conditions so that at the bifurcation points two periodic solutions emerge and describe the stability of these orbits.
