Microfabricated silicon cantilever sensor arrays represent a powerful platform for sensing applications in physics, chemistry, material science, biology and medicine. The sensor response is mechanical bending due to absorption of molecules. In gaseous environment, polymer-coated microcantilevers are used as electronic nose for characterization of vapors, resulting in cantilever bending due to polymer swelling upon exposure. Medical applications involve fast characterization of exhaled patient's breath samples for detection of diseases, based on the presence of certain chemicals in breath. We present a portable, compact, modular microcantilever setup, which uses a micropump for aspiration and a bluetooth interface for remote data acquisition. 相似文献

Diastereomeric clusters of general formula [MAB(2)](+) and [MA(2)B](+) (M = Li(I), Na(I), Ag(I), Ni(II)-H, or Cu(II)-H; A = (R)-(-)- and (S)-(+)-(1-aminopropyl)phosphonic acid; B = (1R)-(-)- and (1S)-(+)-(1-aminohexyl)phosphonic acid) have been readily generated in the electrospray ionization (ESI) source of a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer and their collision-induced dissociation (CID) investigated. CID of diastereomeric complexes, e.g. [MA(S)(B(S))(2)](+) and [MA(R)(B(S))(2)](+), leads to fragmentation patterns characterized by R(homo) = [MA(S)B(S)](+)/[M(B(S))(2)](+) and R(hetero) = [MA(R)B(S)](+)/[M(B(S))(2)](+) abundance ratios, which depend upon the relative stability of the diastereomeric [MA(S)B(S)](+) and [MA(R)B(S)](+) complexes in the gas phase. The chiral resolution factor R(chiral) = R(homo)/R(hetero) is found to depend not only on the nature of the M ion but also on that of the fragmenting species, whether [MAB(2)](+) or [MA(2)B](+). O-Protonated S-(-)-1-phenyl-1-methoxyethane (IS) has been generated in the gas phase by CH3(2)Cl+ methylation of S-(-)-1-phenylethanol (1S). Detailed information on the reorganization dynamics of the intimate ion-dipole pair (IIS), arising from IS by C-O bond dissociation, is inferred from the kinetic study of the intramolecular inversion of configuration of IS vs its dissociation to alpha-methylbenzyl cation (III) and CH(3)OH. The behavior of IIS in the gas phase is compared to that observed in aqueous solutions, where the loss of optical activity of IS is prevented by exchange of the leaving CH3OH with the solvent shell. Hindered inversion of IS in solution is attributed to the operation of attractive interactions between the moving CH3OH moiety and the solvent cage which inhibit internal return in the intimate ion-dipole pair IIS. Similar interactions do not operate in the solvolysis of 18O-labeled 1S in aqueous acids, whose loss of optical activity efficiently competes with exchange of the leaving H2(18)O with the solvent shell. 相似文献

Exact quantum reactive scattering calculations in the collision energy range 1-250 meV have been carried out for both the isotopic product channels of the title system. The dynamical studies compares an ab initio potential energy surface (PES) recently appeared in the literature (J. Chem. Phys., 2008, 129, 011103) with other phenomenological PESs. Vibrational branching ratios, cross sections and rate constants are presented and compared with molecular beam scattering experiments as well as with chemical kinetics data. In particular, the agreement of the vibrational branching ratios with experimental measurements is improved with respect to previous studies on other PESs, mainly because of the presence of a broad peak in the HF(v' = 3) integral cross section completely absent in the previous simulations. This feature, observed by molecular beam experiments, is the fingerprint of a new reaction mechanism operative in the dynamics described by the new PES. A conjecture for its origin, able to explain many of its characteristic aspects, is analyzed and discussed. 相似文献

Surface properties of polycrystalline hydrogenated diamond produced by chemical vapour deposition upon oxidation under UV irradiation are studied. The diamond surfaces were cleaned in vacuum by thermal treatment. They were characterized estimating the electron affinity of the virgin surface by UV photoelectron spectroscopy and controlling the surface composition by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The cleaned surfaces were then exposed to pure oxygen and UV radiation (deuterium lamp). Ozone induced surface oxidation was verified by XPS estimating the oxygen atomic concentration and the presence of specific chemical bonds. Surface oxidation was also verified analyzing the change in the diamond electron affinity. Oxygen was then removed in situ by a series of thermal treatments at increasing temperature. Already at ~300 °C a remarkable reduction of the oxygen concentration occurs which persists increasing the annealing temperature. Contemporary, a progressive recovery of the initial electron affinity is also obtained. These effects are observed up to 970 °C, a temperature at which the electron affinity assumes a negative value. Specific chemical reactions are hypothesized to describe the oxidation process and to explain the electronic behaviour of the diamond surface. 相似文献

The aim of the study was to analyse BTEX compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes) in air by solid phase micro-extraction/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (SPME/GC/MS), and this article presents the features of the calibration method proposed. Examples of real-world air analysis are given. Standard gaseous mixtures of BTEX in air were generated by dynamic dilution. SPME sampling was carried out under non-equilibrium conditions using a Carboxen/PDMS fibre exposed for 30 min to standard gas mixtures or to ambient air. The behaviour of the analytical response was studied from 0 to 65 g/m3 by adding increasing amounts of BTEX to the air matrix. Detection limits range from 0.05 to 0.1 g/m3 for benzene, depending on the fibre. Inter-fibre relative standard deviations (reproducibility) are larger than 18%, although the repeatability for an individual fibre is better than 10%. Therefore, each fibre should be considered to be a particular sampling device, and characterised individually depending on the required accuracy. Sampling indoor and outdoor air by SPME appears to be a suitable short-delay diagnostic method for volatile organic compounds, taking advantage of short sampling time and simplicity. 相似文献

Highly versatile coordinating ligands are designed and synthesized with two β-diketonate groups linked at the carbon 3 through a phenyl ring. The rigid aromatic spacer is introduced in the molecules to orient the two acetylacetone units along different angles and coordination vectors. The resulting para, meta, and ortho bis-(3-acetylacetonate)benzene ligands show efficient chelating properties toward Cu(II) ions. In the presence of 2,2'-bipyridine, they promptly react and yield three dimers, 1, 2, and 3, with the bis-acetylacetonate unit in bridging position between two metal centers. X-ray single crystal diffraction shows that the compounds form supramolecular chains in the solid state because of intermolecular interactions. Each of the dinuclear complexes shows a magnetic behavior which is determined by the combination of structural parameters and spin polarization effects. Notably, the para derivative (1) displays a moderate antiferromagnetic coupling (J = -3.3 cm(-1)) along a remarkably long Cu···Cu distance (12.30 ?). 相似文献

Recent major discoveries in membrane biophysics hold the key to a modern understanding of the origin of life on Earth. Membrane bilayer vesicles have been shown to provide a multifaceted microenvironment in which protometabolic reactions could have developed. Cell‐membrane‐like aggregates of amphiphilic molecules capable of retaining encapsulated oligonucleotides have been successfully created in the laboratory. Sophisticated laboratory studies on the origin of life now show that elongation of the DNA primer takes place inside fatty acid vesicles when activated nucleotide nutrients are added to the external medium. These studies demonstrate that cell‐like vesicles can be sufficiently permeable to allow for the intake of charged molecules such as activated nucleotides, which can then take part in copying templates in the protocell interior. In this Review we summarize recent experiments in this area and describe a possible scenario for the origin of primitive cells, with an emphasis on the elongation of encapsulated nucleotides. 相似文献
